Title: Substratum ICO Scam
Post by: substratumisascam on August 18, 2017, 06:23:19 PM
Substratrum has NO product they literally took screenshots of iStat Menus for Mac and Photoshopped it.

Substratum vs iStat Menus app: https://imgur.com/a/bBGKX

There is a higher resolution of their photoshopped screenshot on their website (they forgot to disable directory listings): https://substratum.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/note_tray_mac_light_zoom.png (mirror in case they delete it: https://i.imgur.com/dUsvoUO.png)

EVIDENCE:
https://i.imgur.com/m59cHeV.png
https://i.imgur.com/scNng0a.png

Someone made a reddit thread asking Why it looked the same as iStat Menus: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/6u4lkv/caution_substratum_ico_rippedoff_designs_of/

When asked about it in their slack, this was their response:

“Hello tradecryptos--
Substratum is most certainly not a scam and I appreciate you saying it isn’t. The screenshots you see are actually screen captures from our MVP proof of concept running and were done by developers not designers and as most technical people know people who are great at one are not great at another so we did base our internal alpha off of iStat because at the time we were just trying to see if we could actually make the underlying structure work because that is the REALLY HARD part of this project at least since we are changing the way the internet connects.
We have brought a Design Lead on now and are TOTALLY redesigning the User Interface from the ground up so what you see in version 1 at the end of the year will look almost nothing like what you see here other than the options that you see will still be there.
Thanks for taking a look!” (screenshot of this: https://i.imgur.com/zhgLqy6.png)

THIS RESPONSE WAS MADE BEFORE THEY KNEW THAT I FOUND A HIGH RESOLUTION SCREENSHOT ON THEIR SITE AND PROVING IT IS IN FACT PHOTOSHOPPED AND NOT SIMPLY A "proof of concept running and were done by developers not designers".

Guys this ICO scam has already made off with nearly $2 million!
Also, I made this post in their ANN thread, but a mod deleted it!  Here is their ANN: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2054963.0

6th day and no tokens received. I believe the managers have absconded with the money and this is a scam. Someone report them to the authorities please. Let's see how far their $2 million will take them with a class action lawsuit.

Lead is suppose to be a pastor at a church.  Twitter account is from 2008 but nothing about substratum on it.  If you look at the ether address they have a ton of SUB coins, half a billion.  They have been going out really slowly but haven't for 15 hours writing this reply.  Here is the ether scan address.  https://etherscan.io/address/0xaf518d65f84e4695a4da0450ec02c1248f56b668.  Maybe scam maybe not but there is ether moving out of the account not much from what i looked at. Also slack not active anymore.  Anybody have a link?

4 days after deposit and still no tokens, luckily I only invested $30 so going to just take it as a lesson learnt and hope others don't fall for it to limit the amount these scumbags get away with.

I received them 4 days later. That does not mean this is legit though. Anyone can create his own token almost free.

A transaction id is required. You should learn more before investing.

when you contribute you get an email with your TX id

Copy that, go to the slack channel and ask the SUbstratum team members there to help get your tokens.

It took me 2 minutes to their slack channel, paste my TX id in a message and get my tokens sent to me. This is definitely not a scam, and just because they photoshopped some ideas together isn't any different than 99% of other ICO's out there lol. iStat just happens to be a common interface to notice similarities to

yes, they had those past clients. substratum are a bunch of backend developers, according to recent youtube video of their lead guy, that have been running a company since early 2000s. over the years they have been working on a side-project which is substratum.

I thought this was a scam company at first but after researching, they are legit. the ico was poorly run with the referral system but these guys are developers... they will hopefully hire some people to help them in the areas they are lacking. they do have a history of making things happen so we will see.

so not a scam. just a poorly run ico. however, to their credit they were extremely responsive on slack. you can go there and chat with someone now. they are avail 24/7.

4 days no coins. Also, I find it strange that the ICO counter was refreshed today giving people other 10 days to contribute.

Join Slack and ask the admins to process your transaction. There's no smart contract distributing the tokens, so they have to do it in a semi-manual way. Again, join Slack and ask admins. I was also worried but I received them after that.

guys, everything works like a charm when investing in substratum. receiving coins is the easy part, actually delivering a working and useful product is the hard part, but that's on their side of the bargain, not ours. read the instructions before investing because in 99.99% of cases, all user / investor mistakes are not refundable (even if they wanted to).

Hi there,
This is my first post.

Would like to participate in my first ICO and I chose Substratum but I have a couple of questions (hope you can help me):

- MyEtherWallet

Already signed in. Want to create the wallet on which receive the Tokens. Should I have to input the wallet code showed on the website (0x12480E.......)?
Noob  question.... If it's the same for everybody, how they can discriminate which one is mine?
Or should I have to download the Ethereum wallet on my pc and use that one?

- I read I should not send the coins from exchange website. If I download the Ethereum wallet on my pc (and feed it), can I send the coins from there?

Sorry for the noob questions and thanks in advance for the replies

Based on the white paper it should be already added on Bittrex and Bitfinex.

Thanks

Burning unsold coins, new UI design, Beta coming out in few months then v1 release Jan 2018 - also several people seemed to have missed that they are building a crypto payment gateway that website admins can install just like you'd have a paypal module on your site. Except they will convert the crypto to SUB, then SUB to fiat for the merchant and take a small cut via SUB transaction.

Turns out they've been developing the backend all the way up to ICO which is why the developers quickly copied iStat menus and photoshopped it to show a proof of concept of what the UI could look like, so people could picture it. They have since brought on a designer though and its designed UI from scratch looks VERY nice and slick looking now

After speaking with the team members directly and gotten to know a few admins in the slack, these guys are pretty genuine and down to earth. I may have been skeptical coming in at first but this investment is turning out to have huge potential. They have a pretty enthusiastic community in their slack also, which btw if you want to join their slack you should visit their facebook to get an invite. They locked it down from open signup due to so many scammers going around (see below)

Quote

They cancelled Bitfinex due to them dropping support for US users and maybe some other reasons. COSS.io exchange will trade SUB starting 25th I believe and Bittrex is on the list still but there is a long wait to get on there. Of course there is also EtherDelta but I hate that place... I thin Liqui may be coming soon, and one the admins said Binance already offered so that may also be coming soon. They burn unsold coins tomorrow 24th so the value should rise a bit after that
