Title: GUIminer not detecting my video-card
Post by: epochonaut on May 19, 2013, 05:37:46 PM
Hi all! Just got a new place where my electricity is included in the rent so I figured I'd set up a miner. I've been thinking about it for a while so this is as good an opportunity as ever right?

I just want to get a miner going while I'm familiarizing myself with all the technical aspects of bitcoin. I've installed GUIminer and set up an account in one of the mining pools. However, GUIminer isn't detecting my video card. I've opened up my tower and made sure that I do in fact have a video card and that the monitor isn't just running off the motherboard.

Do I need two video-cards, one for my monitor and another unused video-card for mining, or can I use the same card for both at the same time?

you can use 1 video card as alot of people do.... is the video card in the drop down menu in GUIminer where it says Device?
also what video card?

The only thing in the device dropdown list is a message that says "No OpenCL Devices".

I'm using an ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series

Every time I start the program I get an error message saying "No OpenCL Devices were found"

haha wow version 8. you need to upgrade to version 12.8 or 13.1

www.support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

install the 13.1 drivers and you should be good to go

Hey

Try and check this.

1.Click Start.
2.On the Start menu, click Run.
3.In the Open box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks), and then click OK.
4.The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the Display tab.
5.On the Display tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the Device section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has.

Also on GUIminer check

Device dropdown box matches CPU Affinity and name of your GPU

In my case my GPU is device 0 on my system

But it could be 1.

Have you tried any other miners to see if it works? (eg. cgminer)

dxdiag is what I was using. But I'll give cgminer a try if it saves my some headaches.

Make sure you surf the AMD website or nvida site for your updated drivers. Could make the difference.

got to be careful with drivers the new AMD drivers are very buggy best to ask or look around see which drivers are working otherwise you could fall into a world of hurt, AMD 12.8 drivers are the latest stable but 13.1 work 99.9% of the time anything after that your asking for trouble
