The signature space is where you wrote:

Code:
Where am I? Who r U? Sure I'll invest in ur ICO!

and its the same space where I have "ChipMixer" signature. If you enroll into a signature campaign, they will pay you for each post you make (or sometimes its fixed) whether in bitcoin or altcoin. As for selling accounts, people buy them because sometimes they don't meet the requirements of a signature campaign with their account, so they buy one.

There are also a lot of stolen/hacked accounts. So people try to sell these to make a quick buck.

Why are they selling their accounts? Because they need money and the buyers are there because the rank in Bitcointalk is very influential to the income of the number of stake / share or whatever it is called, the higher your rank the higher also the income of the stake / share or whatever it is called.

Sure thing it seems there is kind of a mini market for just accounts of this forum. I also got messages to buy an account, but man why should I? I mean you can never say that accounts are clean or safe. Just take your time and find interesting topics, try to discuss stuff with other people and it will rise by itself. In the end its a win-win for yourself due to the fact you get lots of information and a higher rank up in here.

Most of the accounts up for sale are hacked ones. Else why should anyone sell their accounts for BTC0.01, when they can easily get double that amount in a week from signature campaigns?

A lot of the times its hacked accounts (including mine, luckily I got it back before it was sold), but it can also be people who aren't interested in bitcoin anymore and want to make a quick buck off of an old account they have.

Due to the emergence of ICO's the signature space of all the accounts on bitcointalk suddenly became relatively value 'real estate'. So logically this resulted in some hacks and people selling their accounts to others that need the rep or want to drop their signature in there.

Thanks for the responses guys. I figured it was related to sigs, but I wasn't positive.

Selling hacked accounts is shameful.

I expect to be "Legendary" in a decade or three. (Hunter Pecker) ;)

People buy accounts because of it's potential to earn money through signature campaign. Because in signature campaigns, the higher your rank, the higher the stakes that you can get. Higher ranking accounts earn more money just by joining a signature campaign. And also, higher rank accounts here has some kind of reputation. If you are a Hero member and you join a translation campaign for example, you're more likely to be picked than a Jr. member joining the same campaign.

Of course it is illegal here. We don't tolerate account buying here. Although you can find a lot of members selling it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=234.0.

But once your account has been found to be bought, you will be tag by DT members automatically. So your account will be useless now and you just waste your precious bitcoin. So if you are thinking of getting one, I suggest you don't and used the route what most of us here have been doing in years. Posting months after months, and most importantly learning while earning. Don't hurry, in due time your account will rank up and you wouldn't notice that you already a Full Member -> Senior Member. Goodluck in your journey.

So, 'Ad space' selling good. 'Account' selling bad.
Got it. Thanks for the clarification.

How to realize whether the account on sale is hacked or not?

Title: Re: "Sell your account"? Why?
Post by: Dudeperfect on August 23, 2017, 05:41:26 PM
The word 'sell' is more appropriate when it comes to the trade of account because one is transferring the ownership of that account. On the other hand, when you are allowing someone to use your signature space, it is known as renting that space for a specific period of time and not forever like accounts trading.

It is not recommended to trade accounts unless you have it as a collateral because generally, such account trades encourage scam behaviours and it causes the loss to the community members. However, you are free to lend your signature space.

Thanks for the clarification, so the most probable reason is the account was stolen i thought they will stop joining signature campaign anymore thats why they sell it for atleast the former efforts was not wasted. Is there a record section here that their rank account was stolen or hacked? Anyway i will be always vigilant for my account so it will not be stolen too.

That's the same question I was thinking too. Also, Even If an account is stolen/sold, Can't you recover using your email address? Password reset or something like?

Maybe it will be difficult to know that the account was hacked account or not. If the first email is not replaced maybe you can recover your passwords.

enjoy being in your own profile and try to make friends and learn from other users.
i believe that your account reflects your own personality. so, buying someone else account is kind of cheating.
anyway that's my opinion.

is there any evidences to support the assumption that restricting account sell will reduce scam?
I don't think that can be formal policy here. Anyway people will find the way to sell/buy.
But others will try to upgrade accounts artificially - increasing scam.

Btw guys, how to handle the situation if you got a PM offering to sell you an account? Should this be given to the admins of this board? Because if the seller doesnt tell you the name of the account he wants to sell to you, then how can it ever be proven?

I would, yes. Because if he's selling one, most likely he's selling others. So better that the admins are aware of this.

be really careful 'buying' an account.  it's not just that it might be hacked.  it's even worse... the seller might not even legit have access to the account!  they just make off with your BTC and what are you going to do about it?!

Many people choose to sell accounts because they simply do not stick to this forum anymore, they will sell or they are stolen and sold by others. Because the higher your ranking, the more signature campaigns will pay you higher  ;D ;D

Well that's illegal. Buying account is allowed, but not hacked account. If an account is found out to be hacked, admin/global mod will ban it to lock the account. The original owner could reach out to admin and prove ownership to restore the account.

selling accounts is discourage, I don't want to sell my account in a cause, because I created this account for me to earn, learn, more knowledge and some informations that can help me in this bitcoin world, I don't know why they selling their accounts, we all know that to be rank up, you need to be a active member and wait for long period of time to got a higher rank, and its more profitable when you use your high rank account on some activities to earn bitcoin than you sell it on some people.

I think they need the money badly because selling an own account is not easy because the one who will suffer is those buyers of that account because he/she doesn't know what would be the process of earning BTC because the real owner of that account is not himself :)

You can participate in signature campaign - check my signature synapse.ai. You get paid for advertising someone trough posting. You have to fulfill certain preconditions like the quality, length and number of the posts. And payment depends on your level. So higher level you have, more you get paid. Thus someone might want to buy an account with several hundred posts and good reputation simply because it will bring more money at the end of the day.

Yes, why not? In this thread you can find a list of ongoing signature campaigns https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0 There are probably some more which are not listed here, but the overview is quite good and useful.

Yes, signatures can help people promote their website or their online business. It also make people interesting and trusted. Even though in the process we do not know yet, how the business will go. But to answer your title questions, the answer is :

People sell their account because buyer want to have a account that have a high rank. The more high your account is, the more money you will get when you join a campaign in this forum. And this forum allow people to sell their account. But, some people say that buying account have consequences, because as they say : "instant way always have consequence"
