Where to report a cybercrime?

To the nearest police station, just as you would report a normal crime. Some police stations might have specialized teams to deal with cyber crimes, which may help you.

Nearest police station? Where they would even cost you more heart breaks than before. You can report for record purpose though, but don't expect anything tangible to come from it because the knowledge has not spread to the career officers who have been in service for decades and couple with the fact that the transaction could cut across borders with costs of conducting an investigation will even be more than the amount intended to be recovered. The most important is to be more careful and move on.

Here in my country, we already have a law focused on cybercrimes and a special division of the police was put up for this purpose. However, I think ordinary policemen are already equipped to deal with cybercrimes. As more and more people get into the online world, we should be expecting an increase in cybercrimes, that is for sure. Well, scams are everywhere online and we have hacking and phishing. I too have been a victim of phishing lately but I just cry and never reported the said thing as I am sure police could not help me.

You have to report of your nearest Police Station.. Then they can handle it if your country legalize and have permission about crypto currency because so many countrys are not allow crypto currency and use it. If your country don't permission use crypto currency the how could you report of police because you also include of criminal list about money laundering issue when you use any crypto currency.

So if you face any crypto crime then you can try to report your nearest police station the can help you.

Than you

HOLD ON HOLD ON

What kind of crypto crime?

First off, the police cannot help you with most things at all. They can only help with things in the purview of the state, really, and anything that offers extradition. For example the Bitcoin network doesn't and cannot offer extradition. There are no provisions for that.

If you report a crime, are you sure you won't be the one confessing a crime to the police? The answer could very likely be yes, whether it's true or not. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2068417.msg20672422#msg20672422)

This is the biggest downfall of cryptos in general, the fact that they basically exist in another "country" almost. The gateway has a slightly fickle nature to it. But luckily it's still miles and miles better than regular fiat etc.

That's right. In the EU they are taking these things seriously.
This Czech citizen, who stole a lot of money from a dark web marketplace was quickly found and arrested. You might've heard about this case.
https://www.deepdotweb.com/2017/04/21/sheep-marketplace-owner-indicted-face-years-prison/

So, if you were a victim just go to your local police and they will send the papers to their cybercrime division. If it's a small amount don't expect them to act, but with big money they can be relentless :D

Where to report a cybercrime?

There is a specific branch of police 👮 enforcement that the function is for cybercrime activities. And if you have like Federal bureau of investigations it is better you go to them directly because they have machinery of tracking those hackers than the local police.

Usually, each government will have their own site specifically designed for handling cyberscams. Just search up 'online scam report' and your country's name, you should get a government website that pops up.

Just don't expect anything. Remember that scammers come prepared and most will cover their identities. Even if they get caught which is highly unlikely you will probably get nothing to compensate.

Operating any sort of investigation across border is hard, let alone having an online one, with people hiding under pseudonyms and using VPN and Tor. Just make sure that when paying with BTC please use an escrow, btc is irreersible and this is the only way to lower your risk of getting scammed.

google the name of your country, and "cybercrime", then follow the trail.

If you are in the EU, you should find information at the Commission level.

Well there is a difference between cyber crime and cryptocrime. Cybercrime you can easily report to the cyber cells of your police forces, but reporting crypto crime is a bit risky. Since in most countries cryptos are illegal as of now, so forget any help from the Police in case of crypto scams and all. Instead, there have been news of people reporting for crypto crimes being questioned by the authorities!!!

It is good for you if there's a nearest police station that having a specialized in cybercrime. In my state of country, there's nothing in the police station who specialized this crime. except maybe in the capital city. Its a huge problem as long as we use this cryptocurrency as investment, You can't get a cybercrime protection. may I know what kind of crypto crime over you? Private key stolen or wallet hacked. Or maybe something else.

This is one key weakness I have with bitcoin because there is no way scammers can be gotten even those advanced countries that have specialised units for cyber crimes which bitcoin falls under the category, I don't see them dedicating quite an amount of their resources over a few thousands dollars and this is something that will be hard to implement couple with the fact that the culprit could be domiciled in another country.

Exactly. Crime is crime, if its offline or online. The police want to see crime reduced , it is literally their tax funded job to assist you with this. Depending on where you live, they will refer you to the cybercrime department (like, everyone has one of these, you have to live in the freaking outback for this not to be the case). If they can't/don't, your federal government has a cyber crime division; if it doesn't, as a bitcoin user, you should actually consider moving away if possible, LOL. if you were defrauded by a known business/ public actor, you also have the option to file a civil suit in most jurisdictions; the burden of proof will be on you in this case, and its difficult to subpoena financial records from wary institutions when you are not a LEO.

If you don't seem got the answers as of this moment, it is better to go the authorities now and asked about it. It will be good to have a conversation with them related to the issues you've been raised. And post it here for others will know especially those who were the same country that you belong. One of this days I'm looking forward to inquire about it in our national Bureau of investigation.

Where to report a cybercrime?

If your country has regulated the cryptos then should be some laws related to them.  If cryptos are legal in your country then, there must be cyber cell at your local police station; you can go there and register your complain. I am not aware about any special authority who is responsible to look after such crypto crimes.

Where to report a cybercrime?

Internet-related crime, like any other crime, should be reported to appropriate law enforcement investigative authorities at the local, state, federal, or international levels, depending on the scope of the crime. Try to report unbordered crime in both locales; in a ideal case, both agencies will have to communicate in order to share details/evidence in the case, and it should be easier for the agency to obtain records in its own locale. Citizens who are aware of federal crimes (you really dont have to worry about this, but it will save you the time of getting interviewed by more than one agency) should report them to local offices of federal law enforcement instead. If you go to the lowest man on the totem pole with this, then understand they will pass the case up the chain of command, and you will be subject to presenting your case every time it switches agencies.

just because it involves bitcoin, doesnt make it a cyber crime. if you got robbed, or had a paper wallet stolen or snatched, the regular cops work just fine ;)

Where to report a cybercrime?

We know how hard to tracked such crime when in fact most crimes committed on internet has only low rate of success.. But in things like this,, trying to report in agencies working around modern technologies and equipments the possibilities is much higher.. Every country and states has that particular office and it would helped much if you contacted or inquired ahead of time when those crimes still undone..

I think that is not logical at all, all crimes that harms you or even anyone you know with or without any recognitions by government or law against it as long as it cause damages to you or to your family. Can be reported on any local police and be investigated by the authorities for any reason. That's what they we're mandated to perform. I don't think they have the right to refused for in the first place they are public servants.

Do they really have to hired any hackers? I don't know if your aware of your countries ability or specific agency to be on topped on this. I think it only shows how you belittle your own countries technological capacity on providing protection to your own citizens. Maybe your right in some point that every country have different adaptation toward cyber warfare so I understand. Policing agencies can use bitcoin for tracking. The problem is they need pre-existing targets to make it very useful. If you are hacked then you can show them your address, but by the time they get to you, who knows what has happened to the bitcoin. Who knows if the private address holder is in your country. Unless it's repeatedly used by bad people, like for terrorism, they won't have any way to go out and reclaim it. It's like if someone steals a $20 bill from you. Even if you have the serial number and it gets read at a bank one day, that doesn't invalidate the other 100 transactions it has legally been used for, at all.

But no matter what details you have, literally unless it's your cousin whom has your Nano Ledger in his glove box, they can't recover anything for you. And even at that, there may not be any funds left on it. No government can force a change on any cryptocurrency ledger that is decentralized.

New police force is mandated to one specific cases like scam site, pyramiding by using internet and social media platforms, hacking, identity theft and even bitcoin related crimes. They are part of the National Police force but belong on cyber crime group. It is as far as I know in our country, maybe it is different in every country. If Crypto-currency is legal in your country then go to your nearest Police station, they will refer your case to Cyber Cell. But if it's a BITCOIN transaction then it could be really difficult to catch the culprit. Still Report the crime ASAP.
But if are from a country like Bangladesh, Thailand etc where Crypto is Illegal, Don't ever go to Police station otherwise you could be behind the bars. Rest at your place and forget the incident.

If you live somewhere in the UK or America then the law enforcement might do something about it but if you leave in Africa, I guess you should not bother because its going to be a complete waste of time either eay, its good that the complaints should come for documentation purposes but don't expect your fund will be recovered in the first instance.

Such services now exist in all countries but their efficiency is very low. If any student interest broke your Inbox then the likelihood is that he will find there. But if you want to help you to find the hacker who hacked your account on the exchange or e-wallet that's practically impossible. Crimes are easier to prevent than to deal with their consequences.

The answer to this actually depends on country you are living in , if your country supports bitcoin and it is legal to use in market then you can contact cyber crime department simply and they will try to help you,but if you are living in a country where its not yet illegal or legal ,then there is no way out to you can get your bitcoin back, this is because a cyber crime department will only work if something is legal in your country and is being used very often for eg:-  online transaction taking through banks, your thing not being legal will not be matter of concern for them and reporting them can act as boomerang and they can stop  you from using all this.

It is very hard to say that whether the reporting will give you justice and your bitcoin back or not . If your government recognized and legalizes bitcoin then reporting might be fruitful otherwise there is no other option than that of regretting over it . Bitcoin is your private property only till you have it , once you lost it its gone . Even if you report it successfully it is very hard to get them back . the case of account hack and transaction cheating will not be processed by legal regulation, they will not be able to help because it is not regulated in cyber crime law, peer to peer system does not contain full transaction identity data, they can't track everything especially if it reaches hundreds of case reports every week. All activities in an online business that do not have legal legal elements are borne entirely by the user.

Technically you can of course contact the police but no one will help you. It seems to me that they even look for anyone will. Cyber crimes are too difficult to prove. In your case the exceptions to the rule will not. The rescue of drowning the handiwork of drowning. Now, the security in the transactions of the bitcoin is a promising type of business. Maybe we'll see some changes in the future.

I agree. Report it immediately to the nearest police station so you have a basis as to when the incident occurred. Although yes, there are loopholes in our current laws. There are no dispositions as to how we should treat cryptocurrencies. Either it will fall under a certain umbrella or the criminal can very well escape his wrongful deed because of the dearth of law as to some matters that need to be addressed.

Should it fall under estafa or theft? There is not enough law out there that protects us investors against these type of cybercrime.

This is the sad reality even if our country do have cybercrime division but it wont really assure you to help you out on your case specially if you got scammed by an ICO or beings hacked or scammed by someone who do took your bitcoins or any altcoins. Tracing those suspects itself would really consume time and i wont be sure if you do make try to explain to them on what happened that they will surely understand knowing that not all cybercrime divisions do have much knowledge on cryptos and im really very sure on that one.

It's depend whenever your government already legalize bitcoin or not since they will automatically coordinate with cyber police in order to solve this problem.
Meanwhile, my government still not legalize bitcoin so I must use bitcoin with my own risk ( police can't help ! )

Where to report a cybercrime?

If your country has a law against cyber crime then local police can deal with it and start an investigation. But if you are trying to report a crime that involves bitcoin alone I am not sure if it is already covered by your existing laws.

I'm not sure they will help the crypto case completely because of the limited experience and many countries have not set the national government bitcoin, the effect is that they can not trace the wallet because there are no rules governing it, crypto security is only charged for personal accountability.

It's just like reporting any kind of crime. You may call or go directly to a police station and make a report about the crime. Then the investigation will be followed and you can leave it to them to stay out of trouble.

Most reports regarding crypto is a scam. So if you submitted a report, it's better to support it also with evidences on the scam incident.

But if it is a crypto crime related to transacting illegal drugs or something, then most probably the police will conduct it's own operation on getting evidences.

In India, I think crypto fraud or crime could be reported at cyber cell. You can first lounge a FIR(first information Report) to your nearest police station. And with reference of that FIR copy, cyber cell team takes the necessary action to caught the criminal.

Here's the topic I've been waiting for. Suppose there is a crypto crime, stealing money in the crypto wallet, then to whom can report the case? While bitcoin has not obtained legalization from the government. Do you think the government wants to handle crypto cases? If not, losing money in the crypto wallet, its value is also worth the same as paper money. So, what we must do?

We can report to our nearest police station as you said I don't think that they can easily handle these kind of cases knowing that once bitcoin or coins being transferred it cant really be retrieve unless if the hacker voluntarily give back those coins but we know its an impossible thing. Just like our local fiat we should take care of our coins just like what we are doing in our physical money.Keep it on a secure place that no one could able to stole it and for digital coins keeping our private keys away from other peoples notice.

If your country has regulated the cryptos then should be some laws related to them.  If cryptos are legal in your country then, there must be cyber cell at your local police station; you can go there and register your complain. I am not aware about any special authority who is responsible to look after such crypto crimes.
For additonal, if your country don't have any regulation about cryptos, you can report as cyber crime. I think all police in most country have regulation about cyber crime.
Show your evidence's, tell them the chronologyst and how many your loss.

For the first, you must prove it is stolen, not loosing or something like forgot the password.
But you must tell them (police officer), your internet account is hijack with loss some money. Police Departemnt have qualification about that problems.

For example : if I got scam , I can't do nothing because police can't help me except move to another country !

In this case you really should go to the cyber crime group in your place but mostly they will not believe on you if you don't have much evidence. To prevent this thing to happen be more careful in terms of investing money because this is cryptoworld and its not so easy to make a case in this digital world.

FBI can do the job if you're living in America but if not try to search on what particular agency is assigned to receive these type of complains.

And also mate, don't underestimate the bravery and knowledge of police force. I do support their arm for controlling and reducing the crime rate and these such acts will be solved by them.

Yes I think so. If bitcoin is not under the government then no government officials will make a full effort to help this case. And as what you already said being careful and move on is the only best solution until the world government accept bitcoin.

I would say they do really have the capability to trace transactions but would really be a tough job for them. We do know how transactions happen on this cryptocurrency world which its just new and authorities are just new into solving these kind of cases but i do believe sooner or later they would able to make some ways on resolving crimes which is good and would be helpful and will surely lessen up specially on hyip or ponzi scheme scams since these are the most common investments do involve on making illegal.

Here in the Philippines, acts that deals with cybercrime was established in 2012 under Republic Act No. 10175 also known as Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. It generally aims to handle legal interactions concerning the virtual world. I'm not sure if they have a specific section concerning Bitcoin but it should be included as it Bitcoin is used throughout the internet. The doubts come in because the status of Bitcoin in the Philippines is not yet dominantly established meaning it is not illegal but nothing also states that it is legal so before reporting a crime that involves Bitcoin one should be careful as to not incriminate oneself.

To my knowledge, it would depend on the nature of the crime per case, to determine what jurisdiction would investigate. If this was purely a cyber crime, then the above, or the SBI would be appropriate to contact. But if there is a violent component to the crime, say a bitcoin robbery or kidnapping, then the locale would have initial jurisdiction. Additionally, if there is say, drugs involved in the transaction, then other federal/state bodies could also participate in the investigation, even if not initially.

You are always the safest reporting first to your local police, in the place where the hacked device resides. They can help you escalate to the appropriate agency, or if they are lax, you can do this yourself ;)

What do you mean cybercrime? Because i think there are lot of kinds of cybercrime in the internet like child pornography, phishing and hacking in which all of these can be reported in CIA, FBI or any law agencies that related to cyber because i believed every nation has it but if you're referring for digital currencies issues then you could make a complaint too if bitcoin is legal in your country.

Cyber crime, there are various kinds of crimes.. for more general's crimes, of course you can report it directly to the law part in your country (Police). But if it's an criminalized in the world of crypto currency, I think it depends on your country.. Has your country been regulating the crypto currency or not yet, in my place if I've a crimes related with crypto currency (Bitcoin) I can't doing anything, because crypto currency has not really regulated yet or as a currency that has been legalized.. well, maybe just accepting the risks alone and more careful for the next.

Crypto crime is increasing now in our country as well. Everybody wants to get the bitcoin now either officially or by scamming people. Many people' modus operandi is that they give a lucrative scheme of investing in btc every month and they can provide a % of return etc. So generally in rural areas as people are not fully aware they get trapped under such scams and then finally they realized they where scammed and thus getting FIR filled is very important in scenario so that correct action is taken against them.

So its a very complex issue and if you need qualified answer you must write more about your case.First of all there are a lot of problems because there are countries with zero knowledge and they cann't even use their special source to investigate crypto crimes, but its not their fault..The second important issue is - from where do you receive or send your money(money in cryptos) because as we know every country has their own international private law (The conflicts of law ) and you can register a claim better with your advocate if you lose a lot,But I don't know from where you are and cann't tell exact answer...

I don't know whether police will consider it as serious, for a cybercrime, there is a specialized team in order to track their identities but most of the scammers are using the fake profile to collect the money. So we have to be very careful when dealing with Investment in online.
When we do talk about online frauds which do make use on traditional transactions like cards or any other related matter then tracing out would really be easy or possible but when it comes already into crypto crime I do believe even on cybercrime division would really have a hard time on tracing up criminals online. We do know the capability when it comes on hiding transactions knowing that there are more anonymous coins compared to bitcoin.Reporting it out is somehow pointless in my side.

You might be having such kind of laws in US or some other country...but there are no such provisions in india. There is no specialised cell for handling anything related crypto crimes.

So if you have any issue related to crypto and you are in India, you cannot do anything about it.

But yea there are other countries which might have stricter regulations about this. however i don't now about your country!!

If that happens in my country where I live, it seems the government will ignore it and maybe just say.. that it's a risk to be borne alone. The country will certainly help if indeed crypto really recognized in that country as a matter that must be protected on its security and vice versa.

if you know a crime like cybercrime immediately report it to the nearest police,
it is a very noble act, because you have saved many people, bad people deserve to be in law. do not hesitate to do good for others and yourself

Do you think the police will investigate this crime? Lol. Police are investigating cyber crimes only against the state. But the effectiveness of such investigations is close to zero. Look at how many exchanges have become victims of hackers. Who got caught and who got the money back? We are talking about millions of dollars. Who will deal with your $ 100?

it depends on your country's decision against bitcoin. In fact, if in your country, bitcoin is legal you can go to Lawyer and present your case. Otherwise in the case of countries where bitcoin is illegal, you can do nothing , you will just pray.

Of course if you want to report on a crime, yes it must be to the police, is it the real world, or cyberspace, but I doubt, when I have a problem in cyberspace, the police can help me, I really doubt the police Can help me .
like a lot of HACKING and PHISING ,, can the police help her handle it? of course not.
we can only cry and tell it to friends.
I hope we can be more careful again.

You can report your crypto crime to your private security team, like all decentralized anarchists recommend.  It is most effective.  They probably know what a blockchain is as well, so that is always a bonus!

Where to report a cybercrime?
I don't know of your country but many countries have divisions within their police, here we call it the Cybercrime Police Unit (CPU). They are responsible for investigating online or any cyber crime incidence. If not available in your country, you can still report to any international FBI or Law Enforcement Investigation agency depending on the scope of the crime.

Cryptocurrencies are a decentralized systems, so it is unclear where to report such crimes. But personally, I'd just go to the police. Of course, provided that cryptocurrencies are somehow legalized in your country.

Where to report a cybercrime?
crime crypto has been happening lately since the popularity of bitcoin is increasing, only a lot of people are still asking where we report and where we are sheltering against bitcoin, obviously the answer is the local government that legalize bitcoin because of its nature that no country takes over so a little bit difficult to protect bitcoin from crime, it's a risk if we invest in bitcoin.

Cyber Crime division of your local police station should do fine. Just make sure you bring some evidence to support your statement, e.g. a print-out of fraudulent transactions generated from any wallet explorer (for having official-looking ones I recommend ORS CryptoHound (http://c-hound.ai)).

GOOD LUCK WITH INVESTIGATION ;)

In countries that legalize crypto, crime can be reported to the investigation bureau in charge of handling crypto crimes. But in countries that prohibit the use of crypto money, such crimes are not resolved because there are no regulations, and the risk of loss or loss is borne alone.

it does not matter if bitcoin was legit or not in thier country  but as long as it qualifies as a cyber crime  , those can still be reported  .  there are also online sites where you can report an online crime though i think it depends on what country you are living  .

just use google for that matter .  laslty you can also post your concern on the scam accuse section of this forum so that other can also be aware from those site or people that you are dealing with

To report a cyber crime, visit: Internet crime complaint center. It is FBI's subdivision for internet crimes relating to virtual currencies and Cryptocurrency. They take every case serious and can even persecute a victim who have falsified a report.
Key in  Internet crime complaint center (IC3) in Google, Report your case and await their response.

Alternatively, you can visit the International Police division in your jurisdiction.

Sadly though, since crypto is still in it early years, a lot of criminals are taking advantage of it because they know that it's not yet regulated and most of the time, if you're a victim you can't do anything about it.

And it really based on where you living at, if you're in a country wherein there is no regulation or worst the government doesn't accept it legally, then you're in trouble. If you're in a country wherein it is regulated, maybe you can tell your local Central Bank, and see how it goes.

Our government already 'legalize' crypto as a digital asset, so if somebody stole your crypto asset you can still report it, in fact, there are a case about this already. Where did you read or your source that tells us people in Indonesia can't report if their wallet/exchange account etf got hacked and their funds got stolen?

Where to report a cybercrime?

Here in my country, there is a particular officers assigned for cyber crime. It includes bullying, pornography, scams, and other illegal uses of the internet. Im sure there are also this kind of police offices specializes in this in your country. Even that is cryptocurrency or not, if its a crime then the law should punish it and the government should take an action.

Of course reporting crimes at the police station, including crypto crimes. Besides that the place of reporting must be in a country that legalizes bitcoin, because if a reporting place in a country that prohibits the use of bitcoin actually adds to the problem because it uses something illegal.
But in my opinion it will not have much effect because it is very unlikely that the loss due to crime in the crypto world will be found or can be returned.

The no one will ever investigation, as long as the network is still decentralized and one's identity is anonymous.
then there will be no one who can punish thieves, thats why crypto is at risk to investors who are not ready to lose

You can go to the nearest police station, and tell you about the situation you have, but I can assure you that the chances of you getting help from them are very low because virtual currency still has no legal framework. In many countries, the only way you need to do it now is to learn how to protect your assets as soon as it's too late.

Most of the time it would really be like that yet Crypto hasn't known yet on most countries and even if theres a cybercrime division I doubt that they

wont completely able to help out for those people who do have cases related to loss of funds or frauds.Tracking would need hell of a time.

What you say is true if the country has accepted and acknowledged crypto, in some developing countries there is still no one that recognizes and makes transactions legal, so it will certainly be difficult to do so. besides indeed your country has acknowledged and made legal transactions, it is clear that there will be a complaint place. you should go to your country forum and ask about it there.

Mostly this police and cyber teams are unable to track the crypto crimes. If you are looking for getting better measures while you are trapped because of scam, you need to report them to SEC commission.
SEC is here to trash the fake ICO groups and scammers around the crypto industry.

Here is the link for you!!!

Nowadays most of police forces have caught up with crypto currencies , most of them should have encountered some dark web criminals thus the experience but if you would go to ordinary policy station and tell them about some crypto crime, I think they would be surprised and would hve to think hard to understand what to do with that info.
