Title: I started a Bitcoin -> MoneyPak site, as i know alot of people wanting one...
Post by: grnlightnet on May 20, 2013, 06:24:39 AM
I started a Bitcoin -> MoneyPak site, as i know alot of people wanting one, since BTCPak.com has went down. Me and my business partner saw this as a golden opportunity while helping others get their money from bitcoins. Im not sure if the fees are correct, but right now they are currently at 5% + $5 (because it costs $5 to purchase moneypak). This rate may change if we see that its too low, or too high. Reviews can go in this thread, and as soon as we are out of newbie stage, we will make another thread with a link to this one.

Site: MoneyPakForBitcoins.com (http://moneypakforbitcoins.com/)

This site isnt completely automated yet, but we are working on this, trying to implement the MtGox API (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/MtGox/API) into the site. If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know.

Our moneypak inventory:
$50 - 10
$100 - 6
$200 - 3
$250 - 2
$500 - 2

UPDATE: A few have sold. Also, im told by my business partner to see if there is any interest in MoneyPak -> Bitcoin, as he said he has a few bitcoins now. If anyone is interested, please send me a PM.

UPDATE2: Just bought and transferred the domain name MoneyPakForBitcoins.com (http://moneypakforbitcoins.com/)

Its one of the items on the todo list, after payment, you will receive a printable receipt that will also be emailed to you.

Trying to get someone to do a transaction, its kind of a catch-22, noone will buy until you have a review, and you can get a review until someone buys.

Im told to run a special for the first person to buy from this site - the 5% fee will be refunded (only the $5 fee has to be paid), fee will be refunded (in bitcoins) after buyer makes purchase and leaves review here.

Can someone explain the concept of MoneyPaks?

You purchase a greendot card from the store, you activate it and within 10 days they send you a customized visa/MasterCard with your name on it. One way to add money to the card is to buy a moneypak, after you get a moneypak, you get a reload pin (like a cell phone reload pin) and you call or go online and access your account and enter the pin and it adds the money to your account. Other people can add money to your account by sending you the PIN number. So when you trade btc for moneypaks, you will have the money with minutes after getting your PIN number, unlike withdrawing to a bank that takes days. I used btcpak for a long time, and when they went down, I saw a huge business opportunity and my business partner funded the project by buying the moneypaks, and I take care of the site.

You can also load many other prepaid cards with them, like a Wal-Mart Money Card.

I'm about to give it a shot with a $50.  Will report back soon.

Okay.  Done the transaction and got 9 confirms (http://blockchain.info/tx/cd3da0f619bbe65b7309c0d73636acc09f00671bd0efd5378a38d467e37222bb).  You'd think someone trying to establish a new site would do the first ones fast, so we'll see what happens.

To the OP, I would add a recaptcha as I just noticed you simply add an email and click Submit.

So ignore the few emails from m@m.m ;)

Seems two people have bought something as all the $ amounts point to one address atm it seems.

*Edit* Also are you manually changing the prices in BTC as I don't see anything suggesting an auto updated value?

Yep, I'll wait until tomorrow to decide if it's just a plain old scam.  It's just not very encouraging if there are ridiculous delays during pretty normal hours at a place in New Jersey that just opened up less than 24 hours ago.  You'd think they'd want the first reviews to be good and not meh, which is the best they get so far.

Thanks for the info, however that doesn't make me feel any better about this. I'll sleep on it and hope that it gets sorted out in the AM.

I guess I lucked out on how well btcpak worked that I expected all sites to follow the same pattern.

Haha yes that is true  buying  and hosting and the work you put into it would make it kind of foolish or weird to just start scamming. But I've seen people put more work then you and scam for much less :/  I gotta get my laptop tomorrow to accessy wallet so all be seeing you in the morning:/

Really? Wow, scammers must be hard up these days. Well, let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Talk to you tomorrow.

The irony kills me :)

I've looked at this (and contacted him too). The links between the two sites are only based on the email, the IP of the host, and the zipcodes are in the same area. I can construct a number of reason why these are linked or why the shouldn't be. In any case I wish I looked at this before as there are too many red flags.
There has been no response so I am in agreement with darkmule in that this is a scammer.
I will retract this statement if contacted or refunded.
Thanks.

I PM'd with the OP yesterday and did not get the impression he was a scammer in ANY way, but I may be wrong.  I'm far more concerned about the community than any one member.  I will lead the parade if this does not resolve in the next few hours.
