Title: Can't I use motherboard graphics?
Post by: BigJim on May 20, 2013, 08:50:20 AM
I wanted to run my monitor off the integrated motherboard graphics, and devote my 7850's to pure mining. I can direct my BIOS to use the IGD. And my two 7850's even show up in gpuz. But cgminer says it doesn't detect any graphics cards.

Motherboard is MSI Z77A-GD65 GAMING. They stopped selling the vanilla Z77A-GD65. Latest BIOS.

basic answer is no what id do if i was you is use crossfire bridges but disable crossfire in ATI visions center youll find that all the work of desktop is shoved onto the second GPU so you can basically run anything on GPU1 even litecoin mining with no side effects and aslong as you dont watch hd videos or play games then you can get very close to mining bitcoins on both cards and not suffer from poor performance if you still want to use it as a desktop

this is what iv done with my 2 5870s

the only way i can see you getting it to work the way you want it to is buy or make some dummy plugs on the graphics cards to fake display signals or even a 2nd moniter in one of them

Are you using sandy bridge or ivy bridge?

Many thanks. Yeah its an i3 3225. Ivy Bridge.
So it does have the Intel 4000 graphics.
What does that do for me?

I can use the 3rd 16x slot (there was a sticker on the mobo stating this).
Ivy Bridge needed for this. Not sure if 4000 is part of that.

Does it help to crossfire the cards?
That will be a bit of a trick, if I want to put them on extenders, for better cooling.
Right now, system draws 300 watts, the 7850s run at 80 and 60 degrees C,
and deliver about 360kh each, 724kh total.

I am heading to IKEA to look for something to get this out of the case and zip-tied onto some shelf or rack.

you do not need to crossfire the cards. I have read somewhere that it is undesirable to do so? do you have the full AMD software suite installed? I had installed only the display drivers and not catalyst control center, which also included the OpenCL drivers and thus initially wasn't able to mine on mine.

Try using a dummy plug on your 7850s.

Means nothing special, you should be able to mine using your cards and having intel hd as dedicated. It's up to you if you want to crossfire, do you game and mine? All you need to do is have the bridge connected & disable crossfire in CCC. Enable in CCC when gaming.

Yup, as stated in my link, you need dummy plugs. A lot of people state you don't, people follow that statement and come back stating, oh it's not working what should I do? Use dummy plugs, only takes a few bucks and a few seconds. I could not mine without dummy plugs, as my intel hd 2000 graphics is my dedicated source video output and using the cards to strictly mine.

Quite a few users kept posting back it ain't working, I seriously think it was because they never listen to about the dummy plug part with this particular setup.

From experience, I could not mine without dummy plugs with my setup, which explains in that first link I posted.
