Title: Bitcoin as Online Gaming Currency
Post by: desert.r0se on August 21, 2017, 11:48:49 AM
For online gamers and at the same time bitcoiners, don't you think it's fun if online games will adapt bitcoin as their currencies?

MMORPG will be much fun if bitcoin will be used to purchase items/gears you're longing to acquire.

Selling items you have exerted effort to farm and you will receive btc as payment is quite exciting.

I'm referring to direct trading in the market of any MMORPG using BTC.

Just a thought though :-)

in my opinion it is never good to mix games with real money. that will always lead to taking all the fun out of the game because there will be farmers all over the game who will try their best day and night to "farm" items, use any exploit,... and fill the market with those items and earn money from doing so.

but if the items are like a secondary thing to the game, like just cosmetics then it is ok. and there are currently marketplaces (like the steam marketplace) that already do this but with the account balance which is money but not-withdrawable.

It's a HORRIBLE idea because Bitcoin's supply is limited and can't be used in games such as MMORPGs where inflationary currencies that come from infinitely-spawning enemies are necessary.
It can't be used in addition to a game's main currency either because the value of the items will constantly fluctuate based on Bitcoin's prices which is what everyone would hate.

It's true if the game company pays the Bitcoins. There were a couple faucet like flash game sites that paid their users in Bitcoin and most of them ended up failing. On the other hand if you create a marketplace that users can sell their items in Bitcoin and game devs. gets a fee from every item that has sold, I don't see a problem. If users loses many because bitcoin price has changed that will be their challenge and they won't hold it in the market too much. Same principle just like Steam market but you don't have to risk your money by withdrawing 3rd party services with huge cut like %10.

I think I've seen on this forum, someone share a link that show games that produce bitcoin. But after I try some of them, we've just earn a little bitcoin, just like faucet and other ppc.

This idea is great but wont really happen since those companies wont really bother to give out bitcoin for the sake of farmed items but eventually you can purchase in-game items or credits with the use of bitcoin. It do works on opposite way, just like on steam they do accept bitcoin as a payment but not on making bitcoin out of the game.Maybe there are some that i missed but im sure that you would able to earn little amount of satoshis and im sure its not MMROPG.

That would be a good idea. But there are already tokens which are used for online gaming. MobileGo, steemit, gamecredits and skincoin for example. Also it's not wise to use bitcoin because of it's fee. Transaction is so expensive than the given examples. Also i don't think someone will use their bitcoin just for online games. Bitcoin is very expensive these days. Anyway, you can buy online games with bitcoin that's all i know.

That would be a good idea but if the MMORPG site will not do that. Instead to gain more profits they will launch their own coin and sell it on the market that way they can get more bitcoins at their disposal. This will mean more income and profit to the site.

I guess, I just have to wait for a Game Developer at the same time bitcoin user to produce a game and use BTC as currency, thus payments on item purchased will go to his wallet :-) I may be too old to play already if I will wait because it might take a long long time ;-)

I think there are now some groups who are exploring this very idea but many of them opt to have their own digital currencies rather than use Bitcoin though their currencies can be bought using Bitcoin. I have seen some ICO project specializing on gaming and there can be more as we all know that gaming is very lucrative and is now a worldwide phenomenon. They are even popularizing the term e-Sport.

Nice idea it can help our transactions more faster and lot easier and i think many gamers will adopt to bitcoin or any other coin because people enjoy gaming so much if this happens We just need to wait for people or a company starts to add this feature to the games that we are playing, a coin that can be used to gaming it can help a lot.

I would not set it up like a faucet.
I think it could have some kind of success if players are able to compete against each other.
Maybe something like a tournament.
While training is free everybody who wants to participate at the tournament must pay an admission fee.
70 % of those fees are given to the top five players as a price in bitcoin.
The rest is profit for the business.

We have several sites that sells in-game items with bitcoin as a payment option. You can also sell your items for bitcoin if you want, or just the in-game currency that the game has. Also, if this would be implemented, I don't think it would be 'fun' seeing that these games would be a hot target for hackers to steal the coins.

That would be a good idea. But there are already tokens which are used for online gaming. MobileGo, steemit, gamecredits and skincoin for example. Also it's not wise to use bitcoin because of it's fee. Transaction is so expensive than the given examples.

Yes, but unfortunately these tokens aren't accepted by most games online for their users to buy in-game items. Sure they call their coins as gaming tokens, but what's the value in it for game devs to start accepting them?

Also i don't think someone will use their bitcoin just for online games. Bitcoin is very expensive these days.

I do. I spend hundreds of dollars a month just for exp boosts and some exclusive items only available to paying players. I'm currently taking advantage of the price since it only is a small fraction in bitcoin.

it's a horrible idea that will make the games pay to win and take away the fun. The most effective recipe to destroy a game is to allow the user to trade the item with real money or in this case bitcoin. More people will make bot to "farm" item and the rich one can be stronger than other people.

Trading thru real money is happening in some Online Games (under the table though, in some cases they are using paypal) , and it is true that mostly rich gamers are the ones on top, simply because they have the means and they wanted to be the strongest (which is not bad I think).

Hmmmm...how about just adding up bitcoin as an option for currency and players will be given options what they have to use - Neverwinter for example has different currencies e.g Zen, AD,.

Most Online games are really "Pay to Play" especially if you want to be geared faster.

Anyway, there are games really where instead of purchasing other players item in fiat, you can use BTC as a mode of payment that is if your counterpart is okay with it. I can also purchase in game items easily through our leading local wallet where I can purchase shells for garena and etc.

In-game currencies are meant to be earned via in-game methods, so people can have opportunity to earn it by playing the game. If you'll just setup some real currency like Bitcoin as the only currency of your game, you will have a boring pay-to-win game, and no one will be interested in it. Bitcoin can be used as payment method for official in-game purchases like cosmetics or services, just like Visa is used now. And it is working like that already, you can load your Steam wallet with BTC and buy Dota 2 or CS:GO items.

I dont think that you will be needing to use bitcoin for buying or selling anything in a game.Either use fiat or there are some ICOs that are created especially for gaming which also will help you out. But i would suggest you to use fiat only for your gaming purposes because people think that if you use crypto-currency "you are doing nothing but illegal stuff" ,but thats only one point  basically the ICOs can spam you depends on which one you go for.

I think that won't be necessary. Just like steam, buying items will be a lot easier using the current system but including bitcoin will make it more worst because all items will be sell when the bitcoin is to high and a lot of players will only profit from that. Players will just play to collect items to sell.

Just a thought too  ;)

Well bitcoin is actually an online gaming currency, people across the globe prefer  bitcoins to buy games and in app purchase on steam by bitcoins , like CSGO and skins in the game or skins in dota ,etc:- .
For trading skins people use bitcoins , using bitcoins is actually easier then  credit and debit card  mode of payment.
Bitcoin became the leading source of payment in steam . This acceptance on bitcoins in the online gaming world is one of the best things that happened to bitcoins.

I do not think Bitcoin is ready to scale for loads of micro payments like that at the moment. Not even Bitcoin Cash is ready for this kind of scaling. I think the closest solution will be some alternative technology or even LiteCoin. Bitcoin might be ready, when the Lightning Network is finished and activated.

You might have a look at EnjinCoin or something similar for that kind of scaling. ^smile^

This is something that is not only possible but achievable and I have seen some projects in that direction in the alt section of the forum, dmarket.io is actually looking in that direction but the one mainly denominated in btc is something I am yet to see but its going to be a move in that direction.

Yes, I think it will be more fun. Due to some payment reversal problems, I think it is better to trade game items using Bitcoin. Bitcoin secures the sellers and buyer cannot reverse the payment after receiving the game items.

Title: Re: Bitcoin as Online Gaming Currency

it is actually easily doable.
and the technology is right there, someone just needs to start building some platform for it and then make it as user friendly as possible so that people can start using it with ease.
for example you can simply implement OpenBazaar and bitcoin to this completely decentralized and peer to peer while using bitcoin payments. but it is not an easy as just opening up a page like steamstore and selling your stuff there. so you will have a big competition ahead.

Title: Re: Bitcoin as Online Gaming Currency

It's impossible to implement real bitcoin as the game currencies, because it will take a big amount and no one will do that
But as for the buying/selling item in the market with bitcoin,i support the idea, many people will play the game and go farming time to time to get the item and sell it

There's an exchange wallet that allows you to buy steam credits directly with your bitcoin, so I think its convenient for some of those gamers out there who use steam. There are also some games that allow you to earn bitcoin I think, one which is similar to minecraft. It has an online platform and I think you're allowed to buy items using bitcoin there, I'm not quite sure how it works though since I don't use it.

Yes, I think it would be awesome for gamers if they were given the option to use bitcoin to buy credits or to directly purchase with the use of bitcoin, also it would attract other gamers to use bitcoin if it is introduced in the gaming world.

That’s not a bad idea, using it as a gaming currency would be a great idea. If the whole gaming community can decide to accept the bitcoin a a mode of payment for games rather than credit card then that would be a nice one.

Correct, thats why game owners developed their own crypto coins so players cannot simply buy in game purchases directly in Bitcoin. Everything must be bought first through their own tokens. And this is a good marketing plan.

in my opinion it is never good to mix games with real money. that will always lead to taking all the fun out of the game because there will be farmers all over the game who will try their best day and night to "farm" items, use any exploit,... and fill the market with those items and earn money from doing so.

but if the items are like a secondary thing to the game, like just cosmetics then it is ok. and there are currently marketplaces (like the steam marketplace) that already do this but with the account balance which is money but not-withdrawable.

I think it's a profitable idea of those gaming owners because most of the previous online games was having failures of their markets due to card type of account items purchases. Having specific crypto coins for the gaming platform that they had is nice and reliable gaming idea on how to earn crypto currency amounts. With this certain idea gamers will appreciate the advantages of using digital currency as well as they can purchase it directly from their bitcoin account accounts if they already have btc balances.

but if the items are like a secondary thing to the game, like just cosmetics then it is ok. and there are currently marketplaces (like the steam marketplace) that already do this but with the account balance which is money but not-withdrawable.

I think it's a profitable idea of those gaming owners because most of the previous online games was having failures of their markets due to card type of account items purchases. Having specific crypto coins for the gaming platform that they had is nice and reliable gaming idea on how to earn crypto currency amounts. With this certain idea gamers will appreciate the advantages of using digital currency as well as they can purchase it directly from their bitcoin account accounts if they already have btc balances.
there are alts now that are used in online gaming. They are too many to mention. Btc can be used to buy some alts that can used to buy some stuffs or accessories on the game we wanted.

Exactly, the idea of using bitcoins in online gaming seems very promising, but in reality, this is hard due to price fluctuations. Gaming currencies with fixed price would be more suiatable for this purpose.

Gaming currencies will have price fluctuations like bitcoin, but this will be less than bitcoin.

Interesting idea. My worry would be, as others have said, it could take the fun out of gaming as you have an asset riding on the outcome. This would make me more tense and I game for fun, which could potentially hinder the fun

A good idea for the gamers and bitcoin enthusiast but everyone will not agree on this. A gaming enthusiast that wants to make this happen needs to invest bigger money, its like he'll let his players buy in game bitcoin and can also cash it out. This is a good marketing but there should be some fixing first and it needs more effort.

I don't think it is a good idea, when you build games that can generate BTC then most of the player will more focus on earning rather than playing and there will be a lot of cheating to try to generate more money and usually this kind of game can't give too many Bitcoin because of the fluctuate price

This is a good idea but honestly, I had read some ICO before about a gaming site wherein you can also get Bitcoin. I don't know if it is now open for use. I hope that there will be more game developers to do the same. That would be a healthy competition and it will be nice o have lots of varieties of games wherein you can earn Bitcoin as the same time while playing it.
It is a good to have on transaction. Yet for me there is a lot of altcoin that could serve better on the world of gaming console to bitcoin. Becasue bitcoin is cod better on investments, trading and transaction rather than to be a mode of payment on a specific game developers.

Definitely a great idea to get crypto into gaming; its almost the same target audience. And there are so many icos in gaming: game credits, hash rush, mobilego...

The only question is then why hasn't it taken off in a big way? I can see two factora: transaction times and ease of use.

A gamer will not want to wait 15 minutes before getting his level 900 weapon, especially when a credit card transaction is processed mich faster. Unless the coin could do off blockchain condirmation, this will forever be a stumbling block. And secondly, established industry players already use credits like steam and Xbox there is just no impetus for change.

maybe the innovation of blockchain to the game is a good progress because the demand is very much, everyone is happy with the name of the game and their needs and technology like this a lot of days developed, especially now that every game users on average reach hundreds of thousands of users even reach millions

Hmm, there is an option depending on your bitcoin wallet that you can convert your bitcoins to game cash. In my opinion, it does not differ from trading your items to fiat because you can always acquire bitcoin through buying it with money but it would be nice if this was implemented. Though the downside of this is this may be subject to scamming due to the nature of trading. People must transact with people who are honest and well-known in the server to prevent any loss in both sides.

This would be so fucking good! There was a minecraft server that worked like that but I don't like minecraft.

Maybe not using bitcoin, but at least using a token specifically designed for that. This is the future.

It is quite a good idea for a bitcoin being an online gaming currency. It is because we can use the bitcoins that we earn in playing games that we want. We also benefit from it from selling and buying some stuff in our game that costs bitcoins. I hope this may happen in the next few years when the bitcoin become more popular.

Agree with you why we use bitcoin if there is some altcoin to be used by that unlike bitcoin much ok if altcoin than using bitcoin yes bitcoin is ok and good but if there is some much profitable bybthat why not.

I am an online gamer too and it is a good idea to make Bitcoin to purchase in game items which online games used to just like steam load. I also am hoping that private gaming companies create a game that the character can collect Bitcoins too I know that most online games uses gold, diamond or any in game currency for the players to collect. Features like players can withdraw their Bitcoin savings in their account to any Bitcoin wallets, can buy items with Bitcoin and can also trade Bitcoins. I played Ran Online, MU and any Online shooting games before when I was in the city and when my job is a computer shop attendant  but I can't play pc games right now because I don't have a computer anymore but if somebody will soon develop a game with the above features I will probably  buy a new pc. ;D

i also have this kind of idea  too! It is very essential for me as a gamer and a bitcoin user. We can easily top up in game loads and buy some in game items through bitcoin. It is good for us and we can play happily since we can easily upgrade/buy/level up wit the use of bitcoin. i wish someday that they will have this kind of conversion because it is very helpful to us

This is a very great idea indeed to use bitcoin as an online gaming currency, If gaming company Blizzard would bring back real money auction house for Diablo 3 again and uses bitcoin as an currency for buying and selling of items, I think it would surely increase the total number of players playing the game again.

Cant see it being used as a currency but more of a potential reward (gamble)
as in you buy into a tournament with bitcoin and pot is spliot between top 3.

Using bitcoin as an online gaming currency would be great, in the first place you would not have to be exposing your credit card details online like it used to be, before you can buy some games or pimp up your gaming arcade

That's a great idea for a gamer like me. Usually when i want to buy a skin on LoL or csgo, i have to use my cash, go outside and buy a game card. You know it has to go all those progress to have a skin for me. So that idea is good because you can directly go buy a skin for yourself, save a lot of time.

Well there was an ico that lately that is successful and that is skin coin . The coin is all about those skins and items in games or other stuff . The coins could be exchange  from skin to btc or btc to skin. Well i think the project is in progress but still by next year you can load your game credits using bitcoin or eth if those are implemented

Because, it look like as we are playing a finance game and use our money for pay this game. ;D
The market cap and raised funds also increase to a huge money like your wish from a game in Bitcoin.

It would be revolutionary since I myself is a gamer. For starters this would be great for those new games out there in the E3. They're not gonna only help their game get to the next level but also help us to get Bitcoin to be noticed as it should be, and more people will be utilizing it in a way that it will exist in a differently even exquisite platform, I guess.

This is amazingly effective because now a lot of people are doing gambling and it was difficult for them to have a game card with right time. If it will become the game currency then the bitcoin gambling will be easy to make done on time and the transaction will not be time requiring. The currency of the fiat was easy to use but was difficult to carry safely so bitcoin is the best for the people like you.

I agree with you it will more be an award for big games like league of legends tournament and the first price will get like 1 bitcoin or more that is the

most common sensible thing to come up with if you think about mixing gaming and bitcoin.

The fee's price will be directly proportional to the price of Bitcoin. If it the price of Bitcoin rises then as well as the price of the fees. That's why they call it, "feed for the whales" I think, since these wales are the miners themselves.
