Title: FPGA PCIE card choices
Post by: Dutch85 on May 20, 2013, 10:23:56 AM
Hi,

I recently got asked to build a bitcoin mining rig for someone. I have decided to go the FPGA route. I was looking at getting a pcie backplain with 13 pcie slots. I was then going to purchase a single board computer. The rest of the components I have (ie hard drive, ram, processor). Now, I just need to know some of my options for the FPGA cards. Does anybody have some suggestions.

Thanks

From what I've gathered only this company is still active making and reliably selling them.

Nah, those cannot mine bitcoins AFAIK. The FPGA's for bitcoin mining are specially designed (with Spartan-6's) to maximize mining performance and cooling. I've yet to see a FPGA for efficient bitcoin mining on PCIE.

My understanding is that Artix-7, Kintex-7, Virtex-7, Spartan-6, Virtex-6, Cyclone IV, and Cyclone V are all used for bitcoin mining but the spartan-6 seems to be the most cost efficient.
