Not all of them ends up being scam and you can't except every bussiness attempt or every invesment to be succesfull. Some will fail some will rise. They won't and can't guarantee you profit so you must choose wisely.

Same reason VCs keep investing in startups even though the vast majority of them fail.

Hmm, still scratching my head how a newbie got his first post predicting all about the negative sides of an investment into ICO. So you just got here and think that ICO are scams ?

It's not completely true. There are hundreds of ICO which are fully successful with whatever they started and they have followed the roadmap until the end of ICO project. They have given big profits and return of investment to their shareholders and I have been through it many times.

So just knock off and try to learn about ICO in professional manner.

If bitcoin is oxygen then ICO are water, both of them are essential and isolated.

Yes, there are now a lot of fraudulent ICO projects, they scam and make many people lose a lot of property. However, not all of them, there are also many successful ICO projects, both great, making a huge profit for investors. Everyone invests in the ICO because it is a great way to make a profit. For beginners I think they should learn how to invest in advance, refer to how to invest, learn from people who have experienced ICO investment. Before deciding to participate in an ICO project should thoroughly learn about it, avoid being scam

MANY ARE SCAMS BUT NOT ALL.

ICO gives huge returns on your investment in less time if went successful that can't be matched by established or top cryptocurrencies. This is enough a reason to invest in an ICO. What I have experienced so far is that scams and genuine ICO projects can be distinguished easily by reading a company's project, whitepaper and vision.

Not everything is found as scam. From the white paper description itself we can understand about the worth of the project and the growth potential. This is a way that has been mostly based on the ethereum Blockchain smart contract. Hope the successful ICO's are getting more importance same as the digital currencies.

Most ICOs are not even technically that. They are really token giveaways, not coins. Coins have their own wallet, etc. Tokens are based on a platform and you can create them much more easily.

As for them being scams, well, you are right - most of them are. However, a lot of them are legitimate business trying to launch their new project or product using tokens. There is nothing scammy about this, and when businesses fail it doesn't mean they were a scam. :P

I have also invested in many ico projects but i can say all are not build to scam investors. Most of them paid me with profits some where failed to return my base amount fully but atleast i got paid.
I can't call them scammers, i do not agree on your quote

First, people who knows about bitcoin and cryptocurrency doesn't have an account on this forum, it doesnt matter if you're newbie on this forum as long you knows all things about bitcoin technical or non-technical.

So not to argue, there are some ICO that are scams but mostly there are successful too. But the thing is people still investing in different ICO because people can get huge profit on it after waiting 1-2 months or so. Its on your decision if you will invest or not, you can sense easily if an ICO will be scam or not, from getting more information from the team, the people behind the project, big names on this forum working on them, ICO that has a trusted escrow and lastly reading their whitepaper.

Most ICOs have been running and most ran successfully. So the no-brainer move for hackers/scammers would be to start one themselves for easy money.

So yea, definitely alot of scam ICOs out there. Just don't be lazy on just don't throw your crypto on random ICOs. Do research on them first. Look at everything, the developers, the community around the ICO, and especially the whitepaper. Take the previous famous ICO scam, eroscoin. Whereas it's whitepaper is 100% copied from the BEAVER whitepaper (http://eprint.iacr.org/2016/464.pdf), but somehow it still raised millions because of the ignorance and laziness of the investors.

Not all ICO'S are scams,  there are those which are able to get huge some of money to people who invests in them, Investing into ICO is tricky business and it's always 50/50, you win it all or you lose it all.

ICOs are actually legitimate in many cases, as they are companies launching from the Ethereum platform and not some random pump and dump.

With that said, many of them indeed are scams and you need to watch out for that. This is common in the crypto world at this point.

We live in the world where people invest in Bitcoin doubler and you are arguing about ICO!!
Also you shouldn't generalize all ICO as scam prone based on some cases. In some cases, ICO is backed by extraordinary idea. As a result, such projects raise millions. And as we talking about investors, they make 10-25x on invested amount just in 30-40 days.

Not all ico fails, and I also ever participate ico that failed. According to me it is the beginning of success.Because of our failure will be stronger to rise.

ICOs these days are failing and hence investors need to check the risks before putting their money in any project. Most projects don't even have an escrow to hold funds which makes it even more risky but if you invest in projects like Bancor, Token Market projects which already have a reputation and have have many successful ICOs, I don't feel it's a bad opportunity for investors. Especially token market projects which has a greater ROI.

I am also investing in few ICO and had invested in tens of other ICOs before. Actually I am in profit in overall from all those ICO except few which tuns out to be just scam.

Investing in only those projects which looks promising and have competitive team behind is best strategy. So these days I am just investing in promising ICOs rather than some random ICO which are popping up everyday.

There are many newbie started ICOs, I really doubt they will get any money. If they don't want to show their credibility, how they can collect money?? Unless there are investors that have IQ of 70, lmao.

People invest into ICO`s without even know what the project behind is becouse they think that they will become Millionaires overnight.

But my opinion is that if you look a little bit deeper into white paper of each ICo that you wanna invest in, you can quickly judge wich ICO is worth investing and wich is pure scam. You need a little knowledge for this...but if you read about cryptos everyday, you shoud get all necessary knowledge.

The list is really confusing as there are both scams and legit projects are going on in the market. Its about us which one to pick really and which one to let go. People are investing because they are literate about the particular ICO, the white paper is best way to learn about the team involved behind the project. Out of many few are the people who’s name is enough to make the ICO successful and then people get to know which one is successful and which one is not.

IMO, not all ICOs are scam. I invest in ICOs because I am able to buy the coins at a much cheaper price and which may bring 4x, 10x or even 100x profits.

Not all of ICOs are scam. There are really interesting and reliable projects with professional team. So you can choose one you see value in and invest in it. ICO gives you opportunity to buy a token which has the potential for capital growth. May be that’s why a lot of people consider ICO as the best way to invest

I understand why people are concerned because they are a new type of finance raising, and there are a lot of poor ICO's and scams (but a lot of great ones as well) . They are still new and rather unregulated. But the best thing you can do is do your homework into the company and make your own judgement as with any investment.

For me here are a few signs to look for in a ICO:-

- Strong team - Both in development team and also the CEO's / marketing (no point having a great team to create something, if nobody can advertsie it and push the startup in the right direction.
- Realistic vision - not aiming too high or if they do not reach their target everyone who invested will be disappointed
- Solid whitepaper - Well thought out, shows realistic goals, a strong good vision and a plan of action
- Strong social media presence - A social media that shows they are connected with everyone
- Good customer support - Shows they care, and they have invested time and money into making sure the average investor can ask questions
- Good website - A business who is willing to throw time and effort into a good website are less likely to be a scam
- finite supply - ICO's with no cap can be dangerous and can simply just damage their own coin by releasing more for more investment.
-Market they are getting involved with - Is this a new market? or a dying one? who controls the market?

Finally
- Good concept and catchy name - A good ethos and a name that makes them stand out. Personally i would avoid anything that is something "coin".

If these are in place, then it's a good sign. I am looking at Crowdholding at the minute, seems like a good upcoming ICO (They are in their pre-sale), which means you can get more for your investment.
