Title: Beware of Bittrex
Post by: zamazama on August 21, 2017, 07:48:14 PM
Suddenly they are forcing me to verify my account by denying me withdrawals of +- 0.4 BTC in QTUM.

Unverified account withdraw limit has been reached. Please try again in 24 hours. To increase your limits, please verify your account. See this link for more details.

I have not even withdrawn 1 BTC in the last 7 days having successfully withdrawn 0.7 BTC in June and about 12 ETH in July.

Do you have 2-factor authentication enabled? What's your account type? (basic/legacy/enhanced).
Why don't you just verify yourself? Nothing to 'beware' of bittrex here.

I have 2-factor.

I don't want to verify! I traded within the the original t&c's why is my daily withdrawal limit reduced?

Bittrex changed their rules in August:

Withdraw Limits

If your password has been changed, you cannot make a withdrawal for 24 hours
If your account does not have 2FA, you are limited to withdrawing up to 1 BTC (or equivalent) per day
If you have an account created after October 30th, 2016, your withdrawal limits are:
Unverified Accounts created before 08/01/17: 0.025 BTC (or equivalent) per day
Unverified Accounts created on or after 08/01/17: 0 BTC (or equivalent) per day
Basic Accounts: 3 BTC (or equivalent) per day with two-factor enabled.
Enhanced Accounts: 100 (or equivalent) BTC per day with two-factor enabled

So if you got your account after October 2016, then you are going to be limited in how much you can withdraw.

This was not communicated!!!!!

It's not like i am trading and withdrawing for free. When I signed up I did not agree to the above. i should have been notified of the change.

No Fair service provider changes terms and conditions and does not notify affected clients.

I suppose they assumed people were reading their blog.

There is nothing you can do apart from withdraw 0.025btc a day till you have withdrawn all your coins, and then try another exchange.

Go for a Basic Account. This only takes your 'address' and some email. It should not be hard to make that up, and still have your privacy intact. Will get you 3 BTC limit per day.

I have done that and cleared out my account.  The lack of warning to affected parties is a little underhanded.

next time maybe they will ask for your left thumb or a chip in the arm.

It will get harder and harder to do anonymous business on the current exchanges, even if it is crypto only. The authorities have started cracking down on this on a global scale. Looking forward for decentralized exchanges. Then there won't be any parties any more who could be coerced into requiring/disclosing your identity. Plus, atomic swaps will make the whole thing trustless.

I had same problem like OP. My withdrawal limit suddenly become 0.025 btc without any notification but fortunatelly after my account verified to basic, it's become 3 btc daily limit.
Bittrex is the best exchanger until now, no need to try other exchange.

If it's correct, it is the end of Bittrex.
The major reason for people to use cryptocurrency is anonymity.
If bittrex wants to sell the user info to CIA (kyc), I'm leaving it.

It's not the end of Bittrex, because bittrex is still the most stable trading engine out there.

I agree if their engine had glitches, AND they were making it difficult to withdraw, they would have problems - but that is not the case at the moment.

True, actually I trust Bittrex now more than any other trading exchanges. Though yes they may have glitches and I don't think other exchanges does not encounter glitches from time to time, these are just small problems that could be solved.

I don't think verifying your account would cause any trouble as long as you are using exchanges legally.

It's not to do with legality - most people use exchanges legally. Rather, it's the fact that exchanges get hacked and then all the details are sold on the dark web.

If your email address and password are sold on, no harm done as long as you arn't using that password elsewhere, and you have 2FA enabled. But if your ID is sold - passport pictures and all the rest - it's rather more serious. Sadly, exchanges tend to be very lax about their security, and they shouldn't be if they are asking people to upload personal and sensitive documents.

I see bittrex have problem after forking, I have same problem to related withdrawal and make order, so I sent email to their support, it's just take 24 hours to make my account to be normal again.

Well, this is why we don't storing our coins in exchange, use as trade only, no matter how good/secure/famous that company, just don't.

You do not have to worry about such notifications, I guess all bittrex accounts will now be prompted to increase their account level, you just need to put your phone number in there and everything will work out fine.
