Title: 8x GTX 1060 3GB or 6x GTX 1060 6GB
Post by: AS10 on August 21, 2017, 08:26:35 PM
Hi to all
Here,I can get 8x GTX 1060 3GB at same price of 6x GTX 1060 6GB.
It seems 3GB versions will be good till ETH goes to POS after that they can handle ZEC or other altcoins.
Anyone suggest to do that and get 8x 3GB instead of 6GB?

A 3Gb should be something like 50$ less than a 6GB, so, this isn't really a good deal for a 3GB...

Go with the 6GB. Even if not for ETH, you'll have enough vram to mine whatever other coin out there.

What is difference of 3GB vs 6GB in ETH mining hashrate? ( consider both have Samsung memory )
Also what other coin can't mine with 3GB and can mine with 6GB? ( except ETH and ETC after DAG reaches to 3GB )

The 3gb are all you need for Zec/Zcl/Zen/Hush.

I am running a small rig with 3 of them right now averaging around 280 Sol/s pulling around 90 W each.
They make $1.91/day each on Zec right now.  (The 6gb will only get around 21 Mh/s on Eth $1.61/day)

You will make $15.28 per day on 8x rigs running 1060 3gb and only $9.66/day on 6x 1060 6gb rigs.

If you get the 3Gb over the 6Gb they will ROI 26 days sooner than the 6gb cards if you run Zec.

If your heart is set on mining Eth go with the 1070 or some RX cards.

Thanks for sharing your opinion
As i know 3GB still can mine ETH ( and will be good in next 7-8 months ) but i want to know the difference with 6GB version.
If 3GB can hit 20 Mh it will be good for me Since GTX 1070 is overpriced now ( I mean where i live ) and i can get 8x 1060 3GB instead of 4x GTX 1070 and get more hashrate, also 8x 280 Sol (1060 3GB) Sol will be better than 4x 480 Sol (GTX 1070) in ZEC.

1060 3gb   with samsung is better than 1060  6gb

1060 6gb is better only if you 1060 3gb with HYNIX

Every 3gb 1060 I've ordered had Hynix. Luckily I was able to return them. The 6gb cards have been great.

IMHO, better get the 6gb for future proofing considering the dag difficulty and you can resell them at a higher price than the 3gb.

If you already have a platform for 8 GPUs it would be good enough. But do not forget that 3GB version of GTX1060 is slower than 6GB version for 10-15% on different algos

So it will depend on memory as i find out and there isn't huge difference with 6GB
Thanks everyone that helped.

3GB version of GTX1060 has 10% less compute cores:

GTX1060       3GB       6GB
NVIDIA CUDAŽ Cores      1152       1280

so for 3GB version Equihash hashrate is about 280-290 sol/s at 80% PL, for 6GB - about 310-320 sol/s
