I want to invest 4k to sit for about 10 years. where do I buy it?

Coinbase and Kraken are the ones with the least problems right now.

In addition to what got mentioned above, there is Bitstamp too. It really depends on where are you from as most of the these exchanges are restricted in some areas. If you have plans on using payment method such as PayPal, Skrill etc. Its better to trade with individuals through the forums or at Paxful.com because services don't support these methods because of chargebacks etc.

Depends upon your country of origin, Coinbase and kraken could be better option for you like mentioned above.

If you have funds in perfectmoney or okpay like payment gateway try changer.com to directly buy ETH (you might have to pay quite higher price than market). Try them with smaller amount first...
