Title: Coinbase sent transaction but only showing 1 Sat/Byte!!!...what to do?
Post by: roland808 on August 22, 2017, 10:22:28 PM
Hi

Sent some btc from coinbase and I was wondering why it was taking so long so I checked the transaction id here:
https://blockchain.info/tx/680c0a395dfc83a7063086d812fcc8c8c1981d8cec1d51385e02b76da6dd4275

It says 1 sat/Byte fee!!!!

Why is this? I Didn't set the fee Coinbase did!

This transaction is never going to confirm is it?
What can I do about this as obviously Coinbase support is going to take ages just to get back to me?

The free via accelerator says "fee too low" so that's out of the question

Also, as a side note, the 0.0167... i sent, what is the 0.0104... on that page?

Never had this problem before and not sure how to proceed.  Please help!

Wow, it really has 1 sat/byte fee. I can't remember the last time I saw a fee so low. :-\

Here are a couple options. ViaBTC has a transaction accelerator: https://pool.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/
BTC.com also has one: https://pushtx.btc.com/

Try to push your transaction through those services. User HumbertDice on the forum is apparently also offering this service for free via Antpool, and some users are reporting that their low fee transactions were confirmed: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2111723.0

You should also open a ticket with Coinbase, but unfortunately, it will take them a while to address it. The 0.01044064 BTC output is a change output (the change from sending you your output).

I am not sure if they have agreements with an specific mining pool so their transactions are included even with low fees.

Regarding the other output (0.0104...) that's the change of the transaction.

Just FYI, ViaBTC accelerator doesn't accept transactions with a fee lower than 10 satoshis/byte, and he probably can't use the paid accelerator from BTC.com because they only accept payments with Alipay.

that right above,  the accelerators cant be used too low fee and payment processesor no good.

I have posted in that users thread and opened a ticket on coinbase.

Not much more I can do :(

I have never have had this problem either. I guess it is probably some bug on coinbase's end that is causing this problem. You can definitely try to write to support about this issue and hopefully they can refund the transaction, or just help you out. Otherwise you could potentially pay for acceleration.

Interesting, so this isn't an isolated case? What have you done differently this time compared to previously, anything special?

Which service are you using? Thanks for helping out people in need, btw ;)

Guess they think "if it's going to take many hours until it eventually confirms, it doesn't actually matter if they wait more".

Or someone removed two zeros from their fee per byte on error.

Thank you, that's very kind.

I tried to use ViaBTC's but like @roland808 mentioned, apparently it's too low to even use it.

There's not much you can do differently in Coinbase. I just entered the value and address, that's it. Really weird problem.

Thank You!  Hopefully it confirms soon *pray* :)

In one way it makes me hopeful to see other people have the same problem with Coinbase.  I have done loads of transactions from there before and never had a problem.

Like posted above you cant set the fee on Coinbase yourself.

I did wonder if it was user error on my part so I bought some on CB using credit card and tried to send it with too small a fee - but you cant, it doesn't let you change the transaction fee.  So it must have been some problem with Coinbase itself.  I can't say for sure what fee it said on the send page but I am sure I would have noticed if it said 0.000000001
