Its always easier to convert to other crypto from BTC because there are not so many exchanges dedicated to specific ALT.
Just easier :)

Most likely you'll need to buy bitcoin then trade it for alts on an exchange, coinbase can be a good place to buy bitcoin with fiat if they're available in your country

its always that simple though. its like hwo you do it on fiat which most forex brokers accept usd/other fiat. same thing goes with btc/altcoins. you will need btc to buy other altcoins. there are some tokens which can only be bought with ETH by the way.

if you are holding a bitcoins then you can simply goes to exchange and trade it to any altcoins that you want to buy but if you are holding a fiat money then more easy if for you to use is shapeshift i see a lot of people using this exchange for fiat money or wire transfer

Are you buying other cryptocurrencies for trading purposes? Because some other uses such as gambling, you can easily reload through fiat, although like 2 or other cryptos only. If it is for trading purposes, you will have to go through BTC first. But it is very easy and quick. No hassle.

To my knowledge for bittrex can only be bitcoin and altcoin. But for other exchanger it can be, so we just deposit usd and can trade bitcoin or altcoin. If I am not mistaken bitfinex and coinbase can be.

there are some exchanges where you can deposit USD and directly buy altcoin without buying BTC first but it will always be easier to buy BTC first then send it to an exchange and then buy some altcoin you want

Usually we use BTC to buy Alt coins. ETH and USDT (not USD) can be used too, but there isn’t much choice of Alt coins you can buy as compared to Bitcoin. You can try posting a thread in market place to trade with forum members but remember to use escrow.

if you want to buy altcoin(s), you go to an exchange site create a profile and fund it with some Bitcoin, then you can by any altcoin you want through that site.

-coinbase doesn't work in Pakistan
-bitfinex has stopped wire transfers as per their website
-litebit.eu seems to work i think but it doesn't have much choice in currencies

any other exchange where I can deposit in USD and buy the altcoins?

the only reason am not buying BT for conversion into altcoins is that bitcoin's price is quite high and it will cost me more if I buy it through BT compared to USD.

I sent some btc to my bittrex balance and then was buying coins for it. However, I am sure you can choose other coins to start. Just login on bittrex and go to the 'wallets' section. There you will see zero balance in btc, eth, ltc and some other coins. I think you can just click to '+' button near the coin you want to start with and send it to your bittrex account. I haven't done it myself but when I push the plus button near any alt I don't have  - it offers me to send the money there.

Yeah, in most cases bitcoin is the primary currency. But it is not a must, alts like zcash, monero, ethereum are easy to buy outside exchanges and you can use them to purchase your alts.

You can buy BTC from seller at your country but i prefer LocalBitcoins more as I find it very easy to use. You can easy withdraw BTC to bitcoin address at bittrex and buy the coin that you want to invest.

would love to do that but not doing it because the price of bitcoin itself is quite high. On top of this its being offered in my country at higher prices than the international market. I've not yet joined mafia or robbed a bank so don't have the extra cash to spare to these people :P

That's impossible in my country nowadays because not everyone uses it. As for me it's also good to but bitcoin. Now, bitcoin has a huge impact in every country but maybe to some countries it has really improved and developed their countries properly. If I have enough bitcoins maybe I will somehow buy because I know that bitcoin won't disappoint me for its great pumps. Every now and then it keeps pumping because of the demands of it. I haven't tried bittrex yet, I will check on that soon if it works.

If you want buy altcoins, you need have Bitcoin first. However if in your country have some groups trade or community accept exchange FIAT to Altcoin like Bitcoin, you still can do that. But I recommend you should buy Bitcoin first and deposit to exchange like Bittrex or Poloniex or other exchange have altcoin you want buy.

Hey it is very simple to buy altcoins. Firstly you need to buy Bitcoin. If you have bitcoin, then no need to buy. After that you have to your bitcoin on exchanger site as deposit. Then choice your altcoin and buy it. But be careful to select right exchanger. Otherwise you will lose your coin.

there is nothing strange about it. people want this method, simply because they use altcoins as a way of increasing their bitcoin not their fiat. and they hold the profit in bitcoin too. that is why the alt-bitcoin markets always have higher volume.

and there is a way you can directly buy altcoins with fiat as long as there is a market for it. for example litecoin and most top altcoins can be bought with fiat too. check out coinmarketcap.com for a list of all altcoins and their markets.

As for your concern about BTC price... just wait until it dips a little and then buy some altcoins. Just remember to keep some BTC cause the price will rise again and then you are good to go.

In general you should buy bitcoin first and then transfer it to altcoin. But some markets have Ethereum or even Litecoin trading markets. Also some ICOs sell their altcoins with credit cards.

There must be some local exchanges in your country that might provide the service to buy other cryptocurrencies(usually the top 10 ones) directly from fiat by connecting your bank account with exchange. But usually there are some selective cryptocurrencies only, not all. Those crytpocurrencies can further be used to buy other coins through various famous exchanges.

BTC is generally used to buy other altcoins since they might be not as well established in order for sites to offer their services. You can buy bitcoins from sites like coinbase and gemini but they require a procedure

There's a lot of trading sites that you can trade but just few are credible.
Try to deposit your btc to exchanges and start trading.
They caters a lot of coins so you should know first what coin should buy.
And also remember don't store your coins in exchanges.
Good luck brother.

By trying to buy altcoin which really have relatively low price For then i try to invest for the next few years.

Or can buy in this forum with escrow services

There are plenty sites where you can buy BTC with your local currency. Then you can send that to an exchange and the party is on.
Some tokens are only buyable with ETH, but i guess you can do most via BTC. Also you will find that everywhere altcoins are calculated back to BTC.

Unfortunately, bittrex is not really operating as I thought is was. You can surely put altcoins on your bittrex balance but that won't help much, because if you'd like to use this money to buy other coins, you can't buy, say, lisk for monero. You have to sell monero for btc and then buy lisk with this btc. Are there good exchangers without this inconvenience? It takes time and effort to turn any currency in btc before using it again. I think it shouldn't be this way.

It is safe to say that most people use Bitcoin as the intermediate Source. That's what we do we go from Fiat to bitcoin and it's staying that Bitcoin while trading and do not go back to Fiat until we're done trading. Bitcoin is a safe place to keep your coins overnight, it's a safe place to keep your coins between one new coin and another and it's a safe place to keep your money.

Most cases you have to buy bitcoin first. On coinbase you can buy Eth or Litecoin first. Also if you are on an exchange with currency pairs sometimes you can wire money and get into other coins. Most of the alts will require you too purchase them with bitcoin though.

Some cases you need to buy bitcoins first before we can buy other cryptos like altcoins for example. By simply buying some bitcoins you can be able to exchange it or convert it as what they always say intoba altcoins like ethereum, litecoins or whatever you want. But I know, these days, ethereum can now be bought on where you can buy bitcoins, ethereum it getting popular also that is why they are getting the attention too.

Yeah you can buy ETH on coinbase and trade that but the majority of cryptocurrency pairs are in BTC (the quote currency) so (apart from the length of time it takes to send BTC) it may be best just to buy bitcoin on coinbase, send to an exchange and then buy (https://richardpatey.com/how-to-buy-altcoins/) your altcoins there.
