I recommend localbitcoins.com ,it is a peer to peer local cryptocurrency exchanger with the ease. It is used as an escrow to keep security between your trades. You can find some nearby exchangers on the website.

As an user mentioned localbitcoins is the best for a beginner. It provides just the BTC to USD trading. Other exchanges give access to bitcoin to altcoin and several other forms of trading. As I was new to the network this is what suggested from long time bitcoin users.

I recommend Bittrex, their support is good enough, quick in responding to problems from customers.
but Bittrex display charts are less attractive to me, and there are no chat rooms  :D

The exchanges proposed by mobnepal are definitely good but I believe that nothing can beat the P2P trading, even If you are not trading directly with an individual, the fees will still be lower then using these fully centralized exchanges. I can only recommend these services when you are in a desperate need of a fast transaction.

What he has elaborated are the best trading platforms out there. Also, be mindful when trading think ahead or long term goals rather than just scalping. Good luck in trading!

There are more choices every day now. But you may want to think about legal protection by choosing a licensed exchange in your country. If there is a problem with scamming or just incompetence you will have legal recourse and could even take them to court. If using an unlicensed exchange based in a remote location it is highly unlikely you will be able to do anything about their actions.

Shapeshift is crazy easy to use if you're looking to trade from coin tocoin,
and I've used it many times.  Lately the app is freezing on my phone though.
Poloniex is good.  Yobit is also reliable, if a little bit shady.  And I've used kraken
too, and I can vouch for them.  Stick with the big ones and don't do the Chinese
scam exchanges.

There are lots of good exchanges and some of it are being mentioned already in some of the responses.

Just want to asked some question so that we may direct you to the exchanges that will fit your needs. Are you going to used exchanges for trading purposes only? Or you also want to do withdrawals (converting it to fiat) there? Are you a type of guy that's fine in terms of providing identity (for limit purposes)? What country you from and how do you plan (payment method) to put money on the exchanges?

There is no best exchanger. All good exchangers are posted already in this thread.
But the exchangers have different features that may be the best for your needs.
Example: You just want to trade well known cryptos and maybe also lend them, then poloniex and Bitfinex could be the best exchangers for you. Or you are looking to invest in new coins and tokens, then Bittrex, Cryptopia, Yobit, Livecoin and novaexchange could be the best for you. You look for an exchanger, that also offers free coins, then yobit and cryptopia could be good exchangers for you. Just try them all out with small amount, then you will find the best exchanger for your needs.

The best until now for me is Bittrex.com, this exchange site has many good altcoin listed on there and a lot of people (including whales) trading on bittrex everyday.
The second is, Poloniex, on this site we will see only super and elite altcoins listed on their site. But unfortunatelly many people dissapointed with Poloniex's support.
Third. Liqui, cryptopia, and coinexchange. Never had any issue with those exchange sites, but the volume on those site are lower than Poloniex and bittrex has.

I like to trade in bittrex and poloniex and I think this exchager is nice and safe. But I also often trade in mercatox and etherdelta, because some of its price altcoins are higher than any exchager.

I'm long term user of livecoin, bittrex and hitbtc. They are the top three I would recommend you with my personal experience.

Livecoin has pretty high rates as compared to other two and they incur very less fee of 0.18% which is almost negligible and can be beneficial for heavy transactions. :-)

I would choose bittrex for newly launched coins as they have highest user base as per my knowledge and more trade volume than other two.

Hit btc is pretty new in the market as compared to other but nice exchanger in terms of visualisation of graphs and lite website to load when it comes to quickest trades.

This is the one of the main issues. There are a lot of scammy, fly-by-night exchanges, and they are structured in ways to prevent you from seeking recourse against them.

As far as reputable and licensed exchanges go, I'd suggest Coinbase/GDAX, Gemini, and Bitstamp. Unfortunately, though, lower market cap altcoins (or really, any altcoins besides ETH, LTC and XRP), are only available on unlicensed exchanges like Bittrex, Poloniex and Bitfinex. If you use those exchanges, you should minimize the time your funds are on the exchange. Deposit, trade, and withdraw.

I rather use localbitcoin because it is more reliable and easy to use also the Yobit, convenient to the users like us. But it depends on its own features which everyone differs. So I guess the best exchangers just be the best if it fits your need.

LocalBitcoins is getting harder to use. I've noticed that a lot of the cash-for-BTC sellers have disappeared, and that most larger traders are now asking for ID in order to trade. It seems like (at least here in the USA) that there has been pressure on LBC traders from the government to comply with MSB and AML/KYC laws.

I haven't used Yobit myself, as I've heard mixed reviews, and they don't seem to have great English support. But it seems that most of the altcoin exchanges are getting a lot of complaints these days, with Poloniex and Bittrex topping the list.

Yobit fits in the category of hobby exchanges that are purely being operated as a fun project ~ there is nothing serious about this exchange, and that shows in their volumes.

The far majority of the people making use of Yobit, are noobs chasing certain altcoins that other exchanges aren't willing to list. It also requires zero verification, which nowadays is becoming increasingly uncommon.

Obviously, there is nothing wrong with this exchange being operational since there is definitely demand for it, but people should accept the risks of certain things that potentially could happen with that exchange.

Poloniex is losing shine, but it's still far better than Yobit will ever be. Bittrex on the other hand, is the real winner in the last months ~ it gained a huge load of ex Poloniex and BTC-E users.

I didn't thnik large is the best after  Mt Gox and BTC-e get trouble.  The finally result is : people lost their money(almost completely).
so What is the characteristic of a best exchange?
