I have never really thought about that once. But apparently if mining stops, how will transactions be confirmed? Well, it is good the possibility of something like that happening is zero.

Hello! I have always thought and shares my opinion that one of the risk of Bitcoin is it is being banned by the government of a specific country. But with this idea, given that it is actually possible, then it will just be a big lost to ever Bitcoin holder. But I don't think that this will happen just in one click. If this will happen, it will happen country by country and nation by nation. With that, my suggestion and what most probably people will do is will sell their Bitcoins if we are already seeing that it is starting to be banned in other countries.

Sounds from Bitcoin Mining hardware is probably the only way Government would know you own them. Creative people will be forced to come up with noiseless or low noise ones.

Statistically speaking, anything once it becomes illegal, it becomes extremely desirable by people.
Even if you have not planned for any mining in such a case you will plan and make a strategy in order to achieve your goal because simply it's not legal anymore.
Usually people prefer illegal things because they have a special taste.

well, there will be no problem at all. If bitcoin becomes illegal, its price will be even higher than ever. As you can see, drug, weed, cocaine are expensive. But in some countries that accept weed such as canada or Jamaica, the price of weed are cheap ;) Bitcoin will still be used in the dark web ;)

There's no problem if mining become illegal. Maybe large mining farms will have to close because thay can't hide their mining farm, the difficulty will go down and we will back to the early days of bitcoin where people can solo mining.

The government can make bitcoin mining or bitcoin in general illegal, but they can't ban bitcoin. They will need to straight out ban the whole internet for that. So what happens when the government makes mining illegal? We're most likely gonna get a price crash and a bit lesser hashpower due to the FUD and panic that will affect the more less-informed bitcoin crowd, thinking that bitcoin is dead and all that jazz. But I'm very sure it wouldn't kill bitcoin.

It will just show how scared the government are of bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general.

That's much hypothetical, which authorities are against bitcoin mining ? Until we have a communist government, they can't just ask people to stop mining as it doesn't break any law resulting in damage to the society.Electricity consumption could be a valid point but don't the miners pay for it ? There is no point in drawing the consequences when the probability of that event happening is zero.

Bitcoin isn't legal that doesn't mean it's illegal either.Government just doesn't have strict laws governing the bitcoin as for now.

First of all, its not possible for the government to find out who all are mining bitcoins. It will be easy, if they are mining as a farm . If government bans all the mining farms, then they will start mining in home or basement of their home. If government finds who all are mining bitcoin by checking the electricity consumption, people will start mining using solar. In short its not possible for governments to ban mining bitcoins.

What if bitcoin mining becomes illegal world wide is the same as what if bitcoin is banned or proclaimed illegal world wide, by each and every country. I don't see that happening, not possible. There are rumors that North Korean government is mining bitcoin. The Russian government had recently announced a state backed mining operation. So it's more like why authorities are favoring bitcoin mining, as a reserve.

hahaha... Your right! If bitcoin mining will become illegal I think there is still hunters who are going to do it in a very mysterious way haha.
It is hard to government to replaced bitcoin because there are the tendency that people become worst on doing it, they can never warned people on not doing it because some are making this as there jobs and hobbies everyday.
I think bitcoin will never become illegal worldwide become some countries are starting to accept bitcoin. Some online store accept it too. So, it is hard to make this illegal.

I don't think that governments have the possibility to ban bitcoin or disallow people to mining, because bitcoin is decentralized and only you need the Internet connection to deal with it. Even in countries actuallu illegalizing bitcoin there is still people which deal with Bitcoin.

A big if. And if it is, that would be Bitcoin's demise but I am very optimistic that it will not happen and also governments needed to upgrade their ability to catch bad guys since we are on modern age and to ban Bitcoin is not the best option. I had read an article about a dark web website being shut down and those who are using Bitcoin as a means for those people to make them anonymous failed. The line I like is that by using Bitcoin, it doesn't mean that you are untraceable since justice's hands will really find its way. Stricter KYC and effective regulations is the key.

There is no possibility that Bitcoin mining becomes illegal worldwide. Governments can't stop people from mining bitcoin and trading it. Also there is actually some countries (Germany, Japan..) legalized Bitcoin already.

I do not think it will happen, the whole world uniting to stop bitcoin mining by making it illegal, they can't even stop fighting each other. But let's say it happens, it is really the end of bitcoin. Without miners, bitcoin will be stagnant, no tx will be confirmed.

I don't see this coming. I think bitcoin will not be banned or illegal worldwide as long as the government would gain profit from it. The reason why bitcoin is not recognized yet worldwide because there is no support coming from the government but once the government would know and endorse this I really think that bitcoin will skyrocket.

I could imagine a ban due to money laundering concerns or just because POW is a huge waste of energy. But there will always be alternatives: alternative coin, modes of transmission and different proofs out there. Even if bitcoin mining is banned, there is no way to stop all crypto activity.

You do have a point this is why we would really able to say that this thing would really be impossible. No matter what way we would go we would still able to engage on mining no matter what if we do really like to.
This might be the reason why government didn't still able to make such action on banning them since it would really be hard to imposed such thing.

If it becomes illegal to mine, then that would be when bitcoin would witness tremendous rise in the price of bitcoin, since there would be only few miners to confirm transactions, there would be many transactions to be confirmed by few people and then mining would become profitable.

"What ifs"

Ok, it would mean a price crash to sub $500 and loss of mining hash coupled with long confirmations since no one wants to go to jail. However in some parts of the world, there will still be miners, it would not be large mining farms, but simple home rigs cuz that wouldn't be obvious to authorities.

It would be illegal that means  less people would mine, operative word here is "LESS" which means demand will outweigh supply and the reward for mining will become outrageously high.

It is not sustainable, law enforcement searching for humming noises, or high electric bills for PoW, PoS will leave less of a trail. It would literally become an underground market with people using basements to mine. The irony mining underground.

Of course the bitcoins industry is weakening. And the bad thing is that bitcoins will fall and lose. And this is possible because many of them really affect them. And of course they make way for the bitcoins to manipulate. We see china today that the exchanger operatives have been shut down and even ICOs have not survived their scourge. So watch out for the next

This will result in the collapse of bitcoins, and it may be that people who are involved here will be rid of it. We know that it's not impossible especially now that china shows their strength to stop them. We do not know what's going to happen but it might well have been the trend of bitcoins so that it will continue with the rise in price

As far as i can see,the government can't go every home to find who is mining bitcoins.
Supposedly if we assume government can apply any alternate method to ban mining, the value of bitcoin would decrease and no one shall demand it more as we do today.

Bitcoin mining keeps the stock of bitcoin infinite. As long as there is stock there will be no limit of bitcoin. If the mining will be stated as illegal by government stocks will be limited, prices will increase as long as people are purchasing it. It will be the highest priced we will ever see in the markets if that would happen but I think it will be harder to earn bitcoins alongside with it.

Why suddenly all this topics about bitcoin being illegal? Because of China? To my opinion this is exaggareted. Bitcoin and he mining are not regulated in many countries but that doesn't mean they are illegal or that will become illegal. Governments will not decide to go that strict against the bitcoin. Time is working for bitcoin and with time the situation will be better, not worse.

you can buy them from people who already have them.

This is a nice question, if bitcoin mining becomes illegal in yhe world today, who would illegalize it? What sanctions are they preparing to impose on chine, russia, japan and all others that are mining today? The only thing i see here, is that there will be deficit or lack of supply of bitcoins, and since that mining is the only thing that is illegal and bitcoin itself is not, the value of bitcoin will again shoot up, just by having a fraction of bitcoin could easily give you a fottune then. Hopefully this will not happen, bitcoi. Can still give us morr brnefits in the future, we all kniw that though bitcoin is volatile, in tends to go sideways at some point, giving us an average on hiw much bitcoin is being valued after it rallied from time to time.

Well, in case all the governments in this world can be united in just one issue and that is making Bitcoin mining as illegal then it can get hard for Bitcoin since we need miners to confirm all the transactions made with Bitcoin. But would that really be possible? Can they really unite just for that issue? I think that is a very silly question.

Of course, that would be clearly impossible. However, in case something will really happen sort of a miracle that governments can get united then we can find other ways to do Bitcoin mining...and am sure there can really be good alternatives.

I guess it is really about time that we took some rest about this issue because this is not really deepening the discourse and this is already becoming like a childish topic.

I don't really understand why this would happen. There is no real reason why all governments would go against mining. Even if it does happens, in theory, Bitcoin will essentially end. This is because mining actually validates every block and every transaction in the blockchain. If it stops, essentially BTC transactions would end up in a stagnant state, essentially stopping BTC to a standstill.

Since, the question says illegal and not impossible, so I would assume in this hypothetical scenario that it's still happening but illegally. In that case, I guess the community will increase transaction cost to cover for mining cost and it will no longer be cheaper to transact. The price will go down since less people will be willing to transact in it.

if it does happen then it will make market share bitcoin and altcoin become chaotic and people will experience panic because then bitcoin may be forbidden to use. but if you look at the current state I'm not sure this can happen, because bitcoin has such great power and begins to be part of the world's financial system. if bitcoin can be received freely then doing mining is also allowed / legal.

Will that be an end of bitcoin? If all mining operations becomes illegal all over the world. Why authorities are against bitcoin mining?

I guess if that happened, it would be the end of bitcoin. Of course that it's also illegal to download movies, games, etc, if you don't have a license for them, and many other "internet activities", and that doesn't really stop people from doing it. The problem is, that if mining becomes illegal, then it wont attract investors, and it would probably be impossible to exchange them for fiat, so I don't see why anyone would keep or mine them.

I understand that governments don't really like them, because trey represent a decentralized and anonymous way of storing value, so it's hard form them to force people to pay taxes, and as it gets more popular, you will continue to see people changing fiat for BTC, and governments and banks will lose power.

Anyway, I don't really see why mining would become illegal. I think if it gets well regulated, it will find its way to be good enough for governments to tolerate them. Also there is already to much money invested in BTC, that don't come from the common user, and normally those guys have a big influence on government decision, so I don't think that BTC will ever become illegal.

I don't think that all countries of the world would declare bitcoin mining illegal at the same time.We could see that china has banned bitcoin exchanges now.But at the same time,we could see that other south asian countries like japan has legalized bitcoin and south korea, vietnam are soon to legalize bitcoin. So,even if one country bans bitcoin mining, bitcoin mining would be continuously done in mining farms located in other parts of the world. So,there would be no difficulty in confirming transactions and it would not be an issue at all.

Miners have their mining hardware, that hardware can't be used for anything else.
They would keep on mining until somebody pulls the plug that provides them with electricity.
Then bitcoin would have the real problem because no new blogs would be mined, no transactions could be made.
That would be kind of the end then.

I don't think authorities are against bitcoin mining and the illegality of it will be baseless. They are just the ones who process the transactions. And if mining will be illegalized, btc transactions can still be created. Actually, it's not the legality we should be worrying about since it will unlikely happen drastically. The question should be what will happen when mining became unprofitable anymore and miners lose their interest in it.

I also think that how it is possible that a currency be blocked and illegal throughout the world. And who should do it. It will need a strong reason to illegalize bitcoin worldwide, because I don’t think that there is any problem with bitcoin besides people are warm welcoming bitcoin and are widely invested in it. And if it is done so that it will become illegal then may the people will never trust any crypto currency.

Making bitcoin illegal is just going to make the prices rise in little time, since there is little or no miner left
to confirm transactions on the network, then the miners left can hype their transaction fees to make much.

It is impossible to ban such expensive coin which gives new way to trade and the whole world will know about the importance of bitcoin so there would be no chance of ban BTC. It has more advantages in investing in any of other business so without doubt we should invest in the bitcoin and enjoy the benefit and profits of this long lasting business.

Will that be an end of bitcoin? If all mining operations becomes illegal all over the world. Why authorities are against bitcoin mining?

Lets discuss
Making bitcoin illegal is just going to make the prices rise in little time, since there is little or no miner left
to confirm transactions on the network, then the miners left can hype their transaction fees to make much.
Honestly fellows, this is impossible to make bitcoins illegal worldwide. Some countries will oppose the idea; other will be in its favor. Moreover, bitcoins are not hurting anyone. It has rather saved lives of many by giving them financial support. Bitcoiners are growing in number gradually so bitcoin is unstoppable now.

Can governments actually ban Bitcoin? Well, if the government banned bitcoin, which I find extremely unlikely, they wouldn't do so by banning bitcoin. They would pass a law banning anything that had the properties of bitcoin. For instance, any peer to peer system of value transfer.

Easy. Mining datacenters will have to shut down and sell their BTC. This will drive the price down. With the time the mining difficulty will decrease and people will be again able to min BTC on their laptops. You can see that banning mining is impossible. It will hurt the price though....

You are absolutely right. I can hardly find any reason that can make mining an illegal activity anywhere in the world. I think this is not possible at all. Mining is something with which lives of the most of us is attached with. This will never be in the favor of those who earn using this technique if this happens.

Bitcoin Mining Hardware is probably the only way Government will know you own them anything once it becomes illegal, it becomes extremely desirable of the people. Strategy to achieve your goal because it simply is not legal anymore. They will simply see on the power consumption knowing that energy miners hungry and desire to consume more will be for a typical electrical consumer. So, I'm sure the bitcoin network will still be alive, but the hashrate and difficulty will decrease dramatically.

First country which made bitcoin legal in their country, Japan also invested on mining projects worth of millions of US dollars to it. Till these adoption take part on bitcoin till that mining will never die. If bitcoin is not in use also some other alts will take that role.

First, even the Chinese have made transactions between cash and coins subject of regulation and have concluded that a ban it's the easier way. They never spoke of a mining ban or possession ban.

And even if mining would somehow become illegal the network only needs one miner to run.
If the remaining miners will raise the transactions people will switch to another form of crypto.
Just like people have run from expensive wires to mg and wu and now are coming back because of sepa.

You'd see the end of massive farms but there's plenty of other alternatives.  I know an IT admin who was secretly using his company's servers to mine Bitcoin.  botnets can be effective when deployed at scale.  You are only really limited by your creativity.

Wouldn't be that hard to shift to proof of stake.  Ethereum will probably be there long before anything approaching the majority of the worlds countries could get their shit together enough to do something about mining.  Then they're really powerless.

With that, my suggestion and what most probably people will do is will sell their Bitcoins if we are already seeing that it is starting to be banned in other countries.

thats wise move decision but don't panic all problems facing of bitcoin right now i believe bitcoin escape and resolve of all trials, i think the purpose of china banned the bitcoin because china want to handle the control of bitcoin.

Honestly, have you seen anything banned worldwide? For instance opium is banned in most countries, but in Afghanistan it's still being planted and smoked. Alcohol used to be banned in the USA, but the rest of the world didn't care. In the 50s people were being sentenced for up to 10 years in prison for cannabis in the USA, while the rest of the world didn't care. In many countries there were completely no anti cannabis laws for another 30 years!
If you believe world leaders are going to unanimously agree to ban cryptos, mining or whatever you don't know much about the world.

In most cases, bitcoin mining is perfectly legal. In a few countries, however, bitcoin mining, as well as the possession and use of bitcoin is illegal. If you live in North America and most of Western Europe, bitcoin mining, as well as possession, is not only legal, but local regulatory frameworks actually provide certain protections and basic oversight. Sometimes, people falsely believe that bitcoin mining is like counterfeiting money, but this simply isn’t true. You’re not creating fake duplicates of a national currency, but instead creating an entirely new currency. By and large bitcoin mining is a perfectly legal activity. Even in a few countries that do regulate the use of bitcoin, such as Iceland, mining bitcoin is still legal. Many countries, including most African countries, have not passed any legislation for or against bitcoin, and have generally remained silent on the issue. It’s important to keep a close eye on these countries, because the regulatory environment could change at the drop of a hat.

This is only the start of battle and hope it won't get into a matter of losing it all of a sudden.
But being illegal, I don't think so. Because more countries are making bitcoin legal and it could be also into mining of course. Maybe it happens become illegal, only to the country that bitcoin isn't established yet.

First of all, this will never happen. There will always be countries that will not ban bitcoin mining and bitcoin mers can simply relocate to that country. Even if it does happen then people will simply continue mining - no way governments will knock on everyone's door to check whether they are running bitcoin mining equipment or not.

So yeah, there will always be miners even in the worst of circumstances - as long as they've got internet and electricity.

Governments are anti-bitcoin mainly because they see it as a threat to them, as it is decentralized. But i don't think they'll go as far as banning all btc mining or at least yet.

A lot of things are considered illegal yet many people still support it. If mining is banned or declared illegal, it would still continue albeit in a limited capacity or in the shade. But I can’t see any good reason for any government to label it as illegal, unless of course they charge super high for the transactions and becomes unlawful that the only way to stop it is by illegalizing it.

Banning of bitcoin mining is a different subject than illegalization of bitcoin itself. Mining is the process of verifying all transactions and releasing new bitcoins. If nobody would be doing this job, bitcoins are as good as gone.

However, bitcoins are being accepted more than rejected nowadays, so no worries. There are going to be legalizing around the globe within next five years.

Drugs are illegal world wide, but people produce and use them. If BitCoin mining becomes illegal, people do not stop their mining hardwares. They continue to mine illegally. This situation affects the price of BitCoin, it will drop a bit and BitCoin shifts from world wide money to world wide web money which it was born in world wide web.

I think people will still be in Bitcoin and work in the dark because there are so many drugs, weeds and cocaine that can be overcome and they are cheaply sold in the market. If Bitcoin becomes illegitimate, many will be unemployed and many will become impoverished because they are unemployed and lose money from bitcoins.

I don't think that the ban of mining is in the hand of government .  Even if the government of a country tries to ban mining there will still be many ways for the miners to keep mining silently . Mining is never going to stop . It is totally associated with internet . Internet is the key requirement for mining and for banning or declaring mining of bitcoin as illegal the government cannot stop the use of internet .  Moreover this action can give a head start to many more illegal ways to do mining .

No, because I have heard that Satoshi has set up a few nodes and machines already which will still maintain the efficacy of Bitcoins, but obviously not at a worldwide level (means when it goes mainstream).

Quote
If all mining operations becomes illegal all over the world. Why authorities are against bitcoin mining?

Authorities are against it because it is somehow harming the ecosystem by using a lot of electricity and power to mine Bitcoins. They fear to lose it all over the mining equipment when in some areas of few countries, they are not even able to get electricity for an hour properly.

This has been illegal from the day of bitcoin into existence. From those day it has been getting circulated as flawless system, and several countries show neutral response for mining and recently in few countries it got banned all because of the illegal usage of power for running the system. Hope in future can expect legalized mining farms around the world.

So, not all miners are mining bitcoins, there are other good cryptocurrencies which can also mine, ethereum for example. If all cryptocurrencies in the whole world were banned completely, then there would be an Internet disaster, but this should not be fated, because everyone makes profit from it.

If bicoin mining is legal, I think bitcoin will be exploited thoroughly. Payments and transactions are used by btcoin. And this will affect the economy of the government. Because bitcoin is not taxed .. if all bitcoin payments are made, the government will not receive bitcoin taxes. This has led to illegal bitcoin in some countries. The government will prohibit bitcoin mining and this will affect miners for banned countries.

That's why most countries won't ban it. China probably wanted to check how big influence they have and they managed to make Bitcoin price decline. However, it recovered pretty quickly.

Its not that easy, the programming behind the encryption of this cryptocurreny is still in use and adopted by several banks as it is considered the safest mode of trading. Think of it as a new form of bitcoin. Even if the US or other developed countries put a ban on bitcoin mining. it won't be a successful move. New currencies will be created using the source code of bitcoin and the values will be transferred to those new currencies. Bitcoin is like those banned drugs or substances; someone will change an ingredient and BOOM you have a new fresh product. There's simply no way of wining this.

Not a wrong approach the legal status of bitcoin. Bitcoin is not more than encrypted digital programming just like modern banks' digital security codes. There is no reason to ban or make bitcoin illegal if we look from this perspective.

You are exactly right, confirming transactions will really a big thing and the possibility for happening is zero reason why what about gold/silver.

It seems the government does not like Bitcoin because they cannot control it. We know how obsess the government can be when it comes to controlling.

Mining has became a game which early and big fortunes can grow without almost any risk. I wont be alive to see the last bitcoin mined, but one thing is sure it will be a massive cost to let all the hash to protect the coin, now imagine the fees cost as well the bitcoin value it will be.

I can imagine exchanging/buying/selling to get illegal in single countries.
But i have trouble imagining mining to get illegal. Governments can put regulations on bitcoin, or stop dealing bitcoins.
I dont see how they could theoretically forbid to mine bitcoins. IMO its highly unlikely for governments to forbid using your PC
to calculate hashes and being connected to the bitcoin network. I mean.. alright china may be such a country (which sh*ts on human rights)
which i would give credit for banning mining. But in the most parts of the world i dont think mining will get illegal anytime soon.

if mining cryptocc is an illegal act, then places like gaming centers, data centers, and other places that contain many computer devices should be illegal, because mining processes require only the device and internet access in it. What might happen is in the prohibition circulation of  cryptocurrency, instead of mining process. As long as the miners are always obedient to income tax in their respective countries, I don't think there will be any problems with the mining process.

The probability that this will happen is negligible. Just look at our world. There simply is not a question in which all countries are unanimous. Bitcoin is very convenient, modern, promising, and to ban it is very stupid. In addition, I know several large world politicians who have a large number of bitcoins. And it is not in their interests to prohibit bitcoin in their country. So you do not even have to think about it.

230 countries.
But you will have to cut off the list those that don't have enough energy or the energy is so costly it does not make sense to mine.

And mining in international waters, aside from being taken as a funny joke it's impractical.
You would need massive amounts of fuel, generators, and above all protection.
The cost would be so high it would not make sense to build a farm on the open seas.

The only way a complete international ban might be avoided would be by totally decentralized miners doing hobby mining with 1-2 miners at home, after all , the chain can run with a single miner.
But in this case, a 51% attacks has an almost guarantee chance of success.

how they know this place mining or not.
bitcoin fee will be big and network slowly.also may end bitcoin

Bitcoin fees and speed of tx are not affected by the number of miners.
How would they know?
Simple, checking who does more than 900kwh a month.

Since:
http://shrinkthatfootprint.com/average-household-electricity-consumption

In the US typical household power consumption is about 11,700 kWh each year, in France it is 6,400 kWh, in the UK it is 4,600 kWh and in China around 1,300 kWh.  The global average electricity consumption for households with electricity was roughly 3,500 kWh in 2010.

There is no country besides the US and Canada where the average household consumes even 2/3 of what an s9 does.
So it's like cherry picking.

Thinking about it, when mining ends, the bitcoin supply will no longer collect more and more bitcoins thus lessening the total amount of bitcoins globally. So in case we have coins locked in some abandoned address, we will have less and less supply thus making bitcoins more expensive, making bitcoins more risky to pop.

Mining is an integral part of cryptocurrency development.Extraction of virtual money is also an undeniable fact.To prohibit mining is at least stupid.I agree that mining has a high load on the grid and requires a cooling system. But if a person pays for electricity in good faith, no one can forbid him to work with the equipment.Anyone can engage in the extraction of cryptocurrencies. Home mining cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin is quite affordable.Allow resources and technology. There is no official ban yet.

You cannot really stop people from using bitcoin because you cannot legally stop people from using the internet and anywhere there is internet, there will be bitcoin.

I always think and share my opinion that one of the risks of Bitcoin is that it is being banned by the government of a particular country. But with this idea, given that it is really possible, then that would only be a big disadvantage for Bitcoin holders. But I do not think this will happen in just one click. If this is going to happen, it will happen for the country and nation by nation. With that, my suggestion and what most people will do is to sell their Bitcoin if we've seen that it's getting banned in other countries, I hope more bitcoin is supported, and other big companies also support bitcoin in the future .

Bitcoin is not owned by any country, so it is impossible to prohibit Bitcoin all over the world. At present, some countries in Europe have adopted Bitcoin in paying for goods and services. And they started spreading to America, and then Africa and Asia. I think Bitcoin is a sustainable development.

If Bitcoin mining will become illegal world wide, there will be less transaction will be made and the time of every transaction, time of confirmation will be delayed. Because most of miners are the one who process every transaction of Bitcoin mining. Let's just not hope that it will be ban, it will make a big FUD if that will happen.

If mining stops then bitcoin stops. But i don't actually see a reason for mining to be illegal unless the reason is that they see it as a threat. But what they can do is to implement regulations. But they cannot suddenly stop bitcoin. It actually also benefits the government or the economy.

For sure there is no doubt that bitcoin is very good for all of us, we are getting profit and our government is taking taxes with bitcoin, as there are a lot of people who are making income with bitcoin only, mining is full of profit if you have capital to afford mining equipments and the capital trust me you will get rich very fast and you will get profit very highly, it is not wise to ban mining because it is getting a lot of profit for miners.

The likelihood that mining will be banned is equal to zero. On the contrary, now more and more countries and large companies consider bitcoin as a payment system.

Mining is one of the way to gain more Bitcoins around the world using just electricity, internnet connection and a powerful computers. If mining would be illegal the supply of Bitcoins will be stock on 16M. Ofcourse some of us here just holding bitcoins and not letting it to circulate, therefore we might not have one bitcoin out of 7 billion people around the world. Thats on my opinion only. Have a nice day :)
