Depends on people's reason for investing in the first place I guess. Some could be to help with an idea they believe in, some are get rich quick and bail soon as it's x5/x10/x20 and others it's the long term maybe strike it lucky like the early NEO adopters.

May also be an alternative retirement pot rather than holding all your eggs in one basket (the bank)

It depends when I buy any coin I believe will pump in tge future and would be profitable I am holding it until price reach on my expected value and I never sell coins in price lower than how much I buy them if I think I made a wrong move buying them I'll wait until just break even.

It depends on the coin and some news which can change my decision. I usually invest in major altcoins such as Ethereum and litcoin for long term. But there are some news or some events that cause the prices to change. In these cases, my decision might change.

It depends on what type of project the coin is holding and what will be the result output. Their are coins which i am holding from more then 12 months as their projects are very good and its result will be 10x on long term. Some i have sold it as soon as it hits exchange. Right now i am holding ICN, ICOB, VSL, TIME, this are some coins which i am holding from long and my view is another 6 months and the coin will give you 10x profit.

From a week to over a year, depending on the cryptocurrency itself and all that goes around, the team, the marketing plan, etc
There are not a lot of coins that I hold for over 6 months.... the natural selection I guess :D

I plan on holding both Eth and Bitcoin (whichever fork wins) for the long term. I think they'll keep spearheading the crypto economy for quite some time into the future...

Other than that i plan on holding NEO and OMG, but trying to increase my positions on those

To get the best  out  of your  investment, you must  always set a target, when to old and when to release else 'greed' migth make cause you pains. I hold  untill I reach 10-30%
Thou risk is involve in cryptocurrency but with calculated risk your lost will be minimal or nill.

I think it depends on the coin. I'm sure everyone is holding some bitcoins for some years now, and will probably continue doing so, specially with the new halve in 2020 I guess. Solid altcoins like etherium are probably worth holding long term as well. Most other altcoins are probably only good for trade, so I don't think anyone will hold them, and will probably just try to get something out of their pumps and dumps.

Ripple is something that I would hold onto for a long time because there’s people working in that project that will cause the development for that coin to improve over time. The guys that do the marketing for Ripple does a pretty good job as well. Personally, I think that they spend too much money on keynotes and conferences, they could spend that money on the price of the coin and pay more programmers so they could speed up the process of the project though that’s just me.
A lot of people on here don’t really like Ripple though, they have to prove that it’s an investment worth spending money on.

How long? I'm gonna hold my coins until the price of it goes high then after, I'm going to trade a half of it so that the remaining is reserved for the next higher value of my coins. Holding and waiting is very much important because, with that, you could earn more profit so just hold and wait for you to have a high profit.

Not too long, unless the alt coin is already on top 10, the traders mood for trading specific coin is only brief so need to be fast and make profit while you can, there are a lot of new coins every day that is why for alt coin you need to move fast, I usually only hold for 1 week

Definitely depends on my coin and the circulation of coin in the market.
I'm holding bitcoin for some years now and cashing out sometime but Im holding it as long as I can and wait for it to go to its peak. While my alts, there are some that Im holding for short term and mid term. Ive been watching closely the market so I can profit good to it.

I do the same with you, for bitcoin that i try to hold in 2-5 years ahead, while for altcoin i always use it for trading, now I have some altcoin like ETH and WAVES which i think have chance to keep growing. And I survived until the end of this year and it looks like this altcoin price will be able to reach the best price at the end of this year.

Well, i just hold until it makes profit, i dont like to hold for years, i just hold as long as it is necessary.
For example, i bought some Siacoin at 120 sats and i sold them at 200 sat each one, i made a 80% profit in less than a month. I prefer doing this and then buy another coin, than just wait months for a big big pump.

BTC - no plans to sell
XMR - no plans to sell
ETH - Have a number per coin in mind

I don't hold my coins for a long period basically I sell them after 3 to 5 days upon receipt because I'm afraid that the value suddenly crashed so to keep my earnings safe I sell them and put in my bank account, I don't regret even the price gets higher at least I have a sure earnings kept and ready to use anytime I need it.

It's depend on the dev update for that coins, usually 2-3 months after the ico done and after the coins enter the exchanges. The first time the coin enter the exchanges, the price will be dropped because many bounty hunters sell all their coins and i usually buy them with a low price below the ico price and i hold it until the price increase surpass the ico price.

I honestly need to learn to hold on to coins longer. I've had two occasions in the past month where a coin has risen sharply just after I sold. Oh well, I guess that's just my luck. I should probably get into the habit of selling only half instead of all of them in one go.

Hodling is the key word here in crypto. Never sell below your buy price. Holding ethereum has given me 100x returns. You just have to find coins worth holding for. Not every alt will 100x.

It depend on the type of project, for some project i hold coins for few months. It usually depend on the profit as well if i am getting enough profit then its ok to sell some. I usually hold them for couple of month as initially the price goes down and at first pump i sell them and get enough profit for investment in other projects.

Wow that is amazing. How much btc you had purchased in 2012 and at what rate? Only handful of people actually bought in 2012 still holds it. Because many of them either sold it or bought some goods and made payment in btc. You would be rich guy today once you sell your btc in future if you own some decent numbers of coins.

Not exactly to hold coins but totally it depends on price of course. Holding coins for a while then invest or sell it for a great price could be a huge profit me. Dumping of price in the market doesn't mean that it will dump at all, it will back again to it's normal and that's a time to sell your coins.

On the other side i trade some altcoins for just a few days our hours. Most times i like to play some fast ICO movements :)

That strategy is the wisest choice that you can make. One rule that you should have when you trade your Altcoins if you decide to do so is that you should not trade any coins until you’ve made what you deposited in the trade. People such as myself traded coins below the price that was deposited because of another coin that released within the holding period and that made me miss out on a few portions of Bitcoin.

Hold onto the coins for a while and forget about it is the thing that most people should do and if they want to invest in something else then they should gather up some money on the side and then begin to invest.

I guess I am the sort of same type of risk taker. But so far, I am making a lot of mistakes. I see a coin on an up trend but I mistake it as a move, ends up being a very very long pump. I see a coin go down and think stay away, turns out was a dump waiting for pump. But yes, for my last mistake, I did not sell. I just hold it and wait for it to reach another same pump. Long-term but seems this is the only way like you said.

How long do you hold your coins?
Some coins I have a couple of months like Sia.
Some years like Ripple

I hold the LBRY for the longest time, almost a week. Usually I sell immediately if it has been a profit but since one week ago LBC never exceeded the price when I bought it so I was forced to hold it.

That’s pretty okay if you are holding it for a week. A week is not a big time; masses are holding their coins for months. You should stay patient to make our desired profit. I guess you are quite impatient in nature and want profits as fast as possible and do spend money fast too.

Buying at 120 and selling at 200 is not 80% profit :)

Just saying.

It depends upon the price. I use my coin to earn income or get profit so i'm after the price. My usual routine is wait for a while and when i think the price is decent, then I'll exchange for it, then earn again and so on. But sometimes i break this routine to give way to urgent expenses and exchange the coin immediately without considering the price

I usually wait until price of coin increase twice at least and I get take my first investment back. Holding of the rest depends of the coin.

I do not think there is a time limit to hold bitcoin in the wallet, because it is a profitable investment but it would be even better if you already get a profit that you think is enough with the benefits of the investment.

If we do talk about bitcoin then holding it would really somehow give some assurance on profits. My holding would depend if i do see some gains on a short period of time then i decided to sell then buyback when theres a dip then rinse and repeat. For altcoin i do hold for long term lets say 1 year onwards.I dont care what would be the price along the way as long i decide to hold for 1 year then it cant really be changed.

For me, there is no limit to the amount of time I can keep a coin, because time is not what I need to think about, the value of that coin in time is the problem that i need note.

I'm a daily trader, normaly i hold my coins for a week max. But sometime i need to do it much longer when the price falls from the sky. I don't to sell them in lost, so i still keep them, sometime for several months. Because I believe, no matter how long it takes, the price will be recovered.

just one week? You make me feel curious. What would you do if you bought a penny, then it goes down long term? Would you sell it even though you lost a lot of money?

I have a core position that I hold for months/years. For shorter term swings, I typically will sell my initial investment if it does more than 2x and leave my profits in to see where or if they run...all depending on the quality of the project. Other swings I sell as soon as they hit 20-30 percent gain.
I tried day trading for awhile but quickly realized how much of my day/social life it consumed. Swing trading and investing are much more conducive for a good social life for me.

If a coin has good volume and a good track record then I don’t really mind how long I have to hold the coin.
I took a year off from crypto and I put my money into a bag ripple and didn’t worry about a thing

If you're not using money you're gonna need anytime soon, you won't miss it. The best day traders are the ones that have an extra of full time income; they don't feel the need to sell at a loss cause there's always cash coming in anyway. They can afford to be a lot more patient and really give a coin the chance to recover, even if it takes years to do so

I usually sell my initial investment, and hold the rest. If I don't need the ether I can hold forever, but when there is better investment opportunity i just dump the coins and invest my ether somewhere else.

I rarely trade short term. I exhaustingly research a project and then buy in for the long haul. In fact, I am currently holding about 10 coins with no intentions of selling any of them in the near future.

I plan to hold some coins for years -- unless god forbid, something catastrophic happens and I have no choice but to sell.

I try to hold most of my coins forever. Only sell if a coin is not performing well and
need money to put in a hot new ico or coin.

That's a clever strategy, just buy hold and accumulate, the best and safest way to get rich

Wow forever? are you sure? I think if you do that even the coins are close to death you cannot sell it. I suggest that review the performance of coins or altcoins in the market also their movement then if you see that this crypto had potential hold it but if you see that theirs no improvement just let go and sell it.

I will hold bitcoin for a very long time for sure. For other coins, it depends. Many times, it is
good to take profits on a big pump in a coin.

Nah, i won't do that, surely i'm gonna hold them till the price get recovered. I believe that i won't lost as long as i don't sell them in lower price. I still remember that i hold my LTC for months because the price keep droping right after i bought it. That's why i choose to be a daily trader, i learn in a hard way that greedy can dangerous for my investment. As for me now, 10% of daily profit is much better than waiting 100% profit a year.

That's cool. I see you are able to earn profits this way also. Actually, short term trading (I would like to call it this way... :p) assures profit and you don't need to put many efforts as in the case of a day trader.

But if someone is a bitcoin holder, then probably he can earn good profits this way however other coins won't produce any good results.
