Title: Paper Wallet to Ledger without losing BCH
Post by: couch on August 25, 2017, 05:49:16 AM
Hi, I filled a paper wallet with my bitcoins in July.
Now I do want to transfer my coins to a ledger Hardware Wallet. How do I do that without losing either my bitcoins or my bitcoin cash? I'm fairly new to this topic, so please excuse my stupid question.
I haven't found a tutorial that explains this approach step by step.

Ideally I just import my private key to the Ledger bitcoin wallet and everything will be split automatically, but I guess it's a bit more complicated. ;)

bitcoin cash has implemented a "replay protection" which has been working properly and that means if you spend the same outputs on one chain it can not be spent on the other.

you can safely transfer your bitcoin to another bitcoin wallet and then afterwards import the same private key in a bitcoin cash wallet and spend the coins you have there too.

Thanks for your reply.
I think i managed to lose my Bitcoin Cash anyhow.

Here is what i did:

I transferred the Bitcoins from my paper wallet to the mycelium app.
Sent them to my ledger wallet afterwards.
When I had the choice to use either the Legacy or the Segwit Bitcoin Wallet, I chose Segwit.
I then opened the Bitcoin Cash Wallet and there were no coins on either the main or the split wallet.

Is there anything i can do to recover them?
