Title: Mining on a gtx 1080
Post by: GeorgeMi on August 26, 2017, 03:52:48 AM
Hello, I recently got into mining and bought a Gigabyte gtx 1080 g1 gaming edition to mine with
I have the following question, after playing with the card i can see that if I under volt it by lowering the power limit and overclock it by adding to the core and memory clock (http://prntscr.com/gd60ja)
I get better performance than just having the power limit set to 100% and no overclock at all.

And that is normal to some degree you lower the power limit but you overclock it so it runs like the power limit is not lowered

But the weird part is that it doesn't just run the same way, When it's under volted and overclocked it runs cooler and consumes less electricity as well.

Am I doing the right thing with that "under-volt overclock" combo, will my card live longer since it is cooler and consumes less electricity?

Thank you for your time.

This sounds about right, depending on what you are mining you can even decrease the power limit some more, i've noticed that if you're mining ETH your power limit could be very low (60% maybe) and it won't affect performance, but for something like mining digibyte or zcash this would affect performance, sometimes its better electricity wise though, i have my 1080 on power 70%, core +99 and mem -300 , i'm mining digibyte with ~600Mhs
