Title: [ANN][LTC] The Litecoin Owl Sanctuary
Post by: JonnyBravo on May 21, 2013, 08:38:03 PM
Hi all 8)

I'm delighted to announce that my first Litecoin game is now LIVE at L8.LV (http://l8.lv/) \o/

First up, I'll say this right off the bat -- this is an LTC chain game. If you regard ALL chain games as scams, then you are not going to feel any differently about this one! I am saying this right here to save the mods from doing it :D

However, there is no trickery involved!

You sponsor an owl for a given price. When someone else takes over that owl's sponsorship, you get your original sponsorship amount back plus a profit.

If an owl is not re-sponsored in a given time frame, sadly it dies (owls have a constant need for delicious worms you know!) -- in this sad event, you still get back a consolation prize equal to a given percentage of your original stake.

To combat the bot situation prevalent on certain other game sites, I've implemented a strong Captcha. The game also shows exactly who the owl has been reserved by.

You can also (optionally) enter an email address if you'd like a notification when someone else sponsors your owl or it expires.

Part of the funds raised will go toward a Litecoin faucet, which will open as soon as there are enough coins in its account that it wont run out instantly :)

The most important thing to me is to be able to offer a great user experience and support. I've done a lot of testing and tweaking, but should there be any bugs left you will be refunded. I'm easy to get in touch with and will be monitoring very closely!

Come and play the Litecoin Owl Sanctuary @ L8.LV (http://l8.lv)!

Any questions, comments or suggestions are very welcome.

When the faucet will be ready?

Title: Re: [ANN][LTC] The Litecoin Owl Sanctuary
Post by: JonnyBravo on May 22, 2013, 09:19:46 PM
Really soon, I hope! I haven't yet decided quite what format it'll take.

I'd rather give a few people a bigger hit than throw a tiny fraction of a coin at a lot of people I think.

I want to be able to give a decent hit -- like 0.1LTC at least... so I guess there'll have to be a "one attempt per day per IP with random chance to get a payout" mechanism so that the available coins don't disappear instantly.

Open to ideas!

In any case, coins are already slowly going into the faucet fund even though I haven't built the faucet yet :D

Wow,
That sounds cool. Increaseing value of Litecoins by introducing more people to it.
I really like it! This site is way better than any of potato ones that are made of greed.
Really wanting to see the faucet working!: )

Always happy to see added LTC development no matter the size of contribution.

Now if GOX could just get moving, and LTCPP launched....

Yay, thanks guys :D I'm really happy it's had a positive reception. Already 41LTC paid out ;D

I'm not sure on ltcpp either -- is that p2p mining for LTC, or did that happen already? I don't really keep up with the mining stuffs..

How many confirmations do you require before payment is shown as cleared? I have 2 and still showing "waiting for payment"

Title: Re: [ANN][LTC] The Litecoin Owl Sanctuary
Post by: JonnyBravo on May 23, 2013, 08:08:48 PM
Hi destruct,

It's currently set to 4 -- it was 5 until about 30 mins ago :)

I'd really love to see some stats on how much the probability that a transaction is bad declines with subsequent block confirms, as I want to set it as low as I can and still be safe.

I've been taking my cue from what the other sites do in this regard, so far.

Title: Re: [ANN][LTC] The Litecoin Owl Sanctuary
Post by: destruct on May 23, 2013, 08:11:31 PM
I feel like 3 would be safe but I did see it confirm on 4 ..

First time I've tried one of these sites as bitpotato is always too crispy for me to risk.

Hope it sells :D

syn! I saw what just happened -- you attempted to purchase Fast Silver but only paid 0.9LTC. I'm refunding the 0.9 now to your payment address.

edit: Done!

It's really annoying that some wallets take tx fees out of the amount you transfer and some add it on for you :<

If in doubt it's best to send 0.1 over the amount to be safe, but really you shouldn't need to do this once you find a sane wallet.

sidelsky18, I'm not sure if you're against the game itself or the fact it's derivative of other stuff.

To the latter argument, well I claim very little originality. I am trying to innovate by making it a bit more bot-proof though, and I don't think the other sites have email notification yet.

The former argument however, I won't address because it is a reasonable position to take! If you don't like or approve of chain games, this one sure isn't going to change your mind :)

I do however, strive to operate completely above board and in a trustworthy fashion.

Oh, also, I didn't completely rip off the front end of the site like certain others have :P

I don't see why you would come to hate. What's the point, when it is originally stated that he knows this is a chain game and if you are against this, it is not the game for you.

Not against the game itself, just against the fact that there's 50,000 of these out there, all using different objects (bitgem, bitgrenade, etc...)

sidelsky18, entirely fair and yes, shamefully bandwagon jumping; but I think incremental improvements to the model are still worthwhile :)

In celebration of a great first day-and-a-half -- I've just given EVERY live owl a free, extra 9 hours on their clocks. Thanks for all your support!

Also yay, made my LTC back with a tiny profit that would take a few days to mine with my hash power.

Would of lost it if the time didn't extend maybe.

Hi Luga,

If you still have the owl when the timer runs out, you lose -- but if someone else sponsors it before then, you win!

Edit: Luga won :)

Hey all, wow, paid out over 170LTC now 8)

I'm still tweaking the numbers a bit -- in particular trying to get the "next price" multipliers down so that more people can have fun at the low levels before the price gets higher.

I REALLY wish transaction fees were lower as it would be great to have start prices like 0.1LTC, 0.01LTC :(

Anyway -- Every owl keeps the same set of rules and stats until it expires, and then if there are any rule changes waiting to be applied they automatically kick in at the start of that owl's next game. This keeps everything fair for current owl sponsors :) So, if you're waiting for a reset so you can sponsor a lovely cheap owl for yourself, do make sure you check you're still happy with its rules in case they have changed a little before buying it :)

Ok, I THINK this can happen in the situation that your coins are made up from a lot of little payments -- but to be honest I'm not sure :S Anyone can explain this?

Grrr tx fees :--( We NEED to be able to do micropayments!

WOW,
Are you mining on P2P pool?
The transactions come from different sources, and it costs xx for xx bytes cant tell precisely. But leave your client up and running and after some time the transaction cost will drop to 0,001.

These transaction fees should be adapted to current LTC price, otherwise micropayments are not possible. like awsome pic!

That was one of the smallest fee's it said, highest was 11.something O.O'

Trick is to just keep trying until it says a nice 0.3 or something I don't mind paying.

*Edit* Yes I mine p2pool. Way around it is just keep rolling the dice until it says a smaller number. I will record a video for giggles to show the randomness of it.

*Edit* Also my client has been up and running for days, if not weeks now. *Startup time: 04/09/13 04:46:00*

Wow, really strange.
I mined on ltcmine/litecoinpool so had money in big chunks.
But maaan when i tried to buy that owl and it said tx fee -0.2 i was like wtf?!?
Only P2P pool pays tx fees, and other tx fees end up in pool owners pocket.

One owl just got reset. Cheap Cheap Cheap it said.

Tx. fees are decided by several factors iirc. Transactions that contain lots of dust (size of the overall transaction) will require a higher fee and also the 'age' of the coins since they hit the wallet plays a large factor, as someone mentioned. Originally, the high fees were necessary to prevent intentionally malicious transaction spam.

Now that we can safely bet on not going under 5 cents per unit, there should be a pretty significant reduction coming with the 0.8 client.

Neat website.  ;)

Wow,
Nice news, where does the 0,8 client come published or ir is it something that can be changed by recompiling the old client?
Also I like this site consolation model, their 40% consolation gives me more money back than bitpotatos 70%.

efx, thanks for the clarification, and that's really great to hear re the .8 client :)

244.81 LTC paid out so far, wow!!! I've had to do the occasional refund here and there for transactions that fell outside the window -- and at one point today there seems to be an unusual lag on the block chain -- but apart from that launch weekend has gone really well :)

EDIT: Yes, our consolation really is quite a bit higher percentage-for-percentage; bitpotato gives you 70% of the round profits as your consolation, whereas we give you the stated percentage of your stake.

If you do the maths, you'll see that in fact n% of your stake is quite a lot higher than n% of the profits made that round, counterintuitive though that is :D

No probs laris2 :)

If there's anyone else who had problems due to the blockchain strangeness today, please DO get in touch so I can refund you.

To protect user's privacy I really don't log anything at all beyond the current game, so if you have a problem you need to get in touch :)

EDIT: I would really like to say thanks to the friendly pentester who pointed out a couple of issues in a completely benign way and who I had a nice conversation with :)

We will have to wait for the official release (unless people want to take on a decent amount of work independently, +1 to decentralized chains  ;)). The github has been pretty active, so I don't think it will be too much longer. Considering the issues bitcoin is still experiencing with their new client (slush found one of them with his pool, heh), I suspect they are trying to get the jump on those fixes before releasing the new client.

IIRC, there may be a way of forcing lower fees in the meantime.

Wow, did hear about slush pool problems. Its good that they fixed it!
If you tell ideas to the dev on reducing the fees, we would all benefit!
