Title: Stolen Coins Post by: vpitcher07 on May 21, 2013, 11:35:33 PM Hey guys, as some of you probably know, I was idiotic enough to click some links on this site that offered in browser mining which ultimately gave me a virus and posted some things under my name. After I thought I had quarantined the virus, they apparently stole my wallet info and I came back later today to see that my entire .18 worth of coins were stolen... I'm like 99% sure I can't get them back but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask but is there any way of getting this back? It's definitely a lesson learned...

After I discovered I had a virus I instantly encrypted my wallet (probably should've done that from the get go) but it was apparently too late.

Thanks for caring guys. Shit happens, at least I hadn't invested some hard earned cash into it yet. All that money was from mining only. There isn't even any need to disable it, just don't allow it to run Java applets when it asks you. If you don't know what you're running, don't run it... Luckily my AV caught it otherwise I would've probably never known what was happening.

But, can't you create a paper wallet and then have the bitcoins that you mine sent straight to it? If so, that's what I would do if I was a miner. Makes it virtually impossible for your coins to get hacked and even if your computer gets stolen, your coins are safe.

we will need to monitor that address and wait till those coins start moving, follow the bloom of coins once they are spent. If they land at a business with a known bitcoin address or an exchange we can track them to the perpetrator. When nothing happened on the website I thought something was up with my computer. A couple of minutes later my AV popped up. I don't remember the link / site. I'm pretty sure the threads were deleted.

I took one look at that Java applets and knew... Chrome rejects outdated or bizarre applets out of hand... never ever click on a java applet that requests you use it... that is already a red flag if it does not start automatically. It seems to be jumping around the world. OP are you located in Germany? looks like your coins were sent to someone in massachusets and then moved to someone in Poland this is a very large network, got about 2000.00 were sent to another address along with your money to Poland. the rest is being moved around as well. It will be interesting seeing the entire movement of this entity, these are very large sums. |
