For n00bs:
PLayer 1 sends 1 BTC. (you get paid @ 2.25 BTC)
PLayer 2  sends 1.25 BTC, so the pot now is 2.25 and PLayer 1 receives his 2.25.
The player 2 only gets paid when someone enters after him and when the pot reaches 1.25*2.25 (=2.8125)

It's called "Double Trouble" I guess. There's been many, many different games by many different people. It works, and you're still early. Might as well go in.

Don't join if you don't understand how it works.

Each person puts money in the pot in order. When there's enough money in the pot to pay double (or, in this case, 2.25x) the amount sent by the earliest unpaid person, they get paid. This means people who get in early are highly likely to get paid, the people at the end will not be paid. It's always a gamble, but the odds are in your favour depending on how early in the game you are.

You should not be telling people not to join if they don't understand. If everyone joined, whether they understood or not people would continue to play the same pool and everyone would continue to receive bitcoins consistently. That isn't going to happen right now, but it's a nice thought.

Either way, this one's pretty good. high payouts are always nice.

Is there any specific reason why all of the payouts were not to my address even though I was owed 4 btc and there was 20 in the wallet?

pretty sure the host dropped this game 30 hours before it was schedules to end. Seems he's taken the coins and ran. A refund would be nice to people if you planned to start a new game up before this one even ended.

The best way to get your 8.whatever BTC is to promote this thread and/or the Marketplace forum and get more people to play. If people realized that they have direct control over this and thereby can increase their own odds, you would see a surge in this space. Maybe we're about to experience that. :-)

The key to this game is to get in pretty early. I give you a lot of chances to get your lost BTC back.
