Title: 3 months in.
Post by: blablablabla_ on August 28, 2017, 07:46:19 AM
Hi all. So I'm three months in to crypto. Heard about BTC a number of years ago but found it hard to buy, so gave up. Doh. Oh well.

So here we are. 12 coins purchased at various prices and amounts. I'm sitting at a +35% increase on my capital. Low point was mid July at -47%. Ouch.

I will continue. I have more coins I like the look of but i don't want too many.

Thanks all for contributing to this forum, a great reference point.

3 months is not a long time, but you seem to be on the right direction.

Make another review in 1-2 years and I bet you'll have more than 2 digit percentage profits. ;D

35% in bitcoin, or 35% in dollars? Because there is a significant difference)

there is absolutely nothing hard about buying bitcoin. and in comparison buying altcoins is 100 times harder than buying bitcoin. there is only two ways you buy them:
1. with bitcoin!!!
2. with fiat, then if you can deposit fiat you shouldn't have trouble with buying bitcoin. and besides some of the exchanges having this option (like Yobit, c-cex, btc-e) are not really safe to use.

if you are new to this then you shouldn't really go big!
buying 12 coins is just going to cause you more headache that you can normally handle in a completely new market that you found out about 3 months ago!!!
that -47% was like a warning for you to tread more carefully. i hope you listened to it.

There is still a lot to learn and explore.

I suggest you to not buy more than 10 altcoins as it would be very hard to follow them if you are working full time job. But still you can buy some incentive coins to forget after 10.
And never panic, that's first thing I learned with my mistakes.

Twelve is already a pretty high number of coins to hold. Try not to diversify even more, it's best to have 8 - 10 coins in your portfolio that you really believe in.

If you're here anyway, it might be a good idea to continue posting and build up your rank. That way you can take part in signature campaigns, which will give you a steady altcoin income.

Congrats to your profit, you are also not late to this platform, I think you should buy new tokens which can be good in the future like tezos, tenx and omisego.

This ^

The goal in crypto trading is to make more bitcoin, it is easy to make money, the hard part is to keep those gains.

Don't hold forever, specially altcoins, they go up and down, you need to trade to keep your profit.

Holding way of trading on altcoin seems not really a wise thing to do as you said they move up and down and if you do like to maximize your possible profits then it would be more wiser if we do sell it on higher price then buyback on dip prices and this way we would really able to make money since all we need to do is repeat those steps, it may sounds easy but really a hard thing to do.

my advice is hold a coin which has been stable for some time, every coin pumps when its time comes.

My advice for you is not to go in all big on crypto, i would say hold 80% of your capital on bitcoins and 20% on altcoins and ICO, until you have perfected a trading strategy

I am in for about roughly the same time and same amount of different coins. After surviving the bloodbath in july, reducing the worth my portfolio to 50% the dust had settled and iam now *4times my investment. All I had to do, was to stay calm and don't look at it too often  ;)

Wow! Staying in calm while you lose profit is amazing huh ;D
This is the right thing to do when things are not going in what you expected, just breath in and stay calm.
While me, I just watch the market and I trust always my coins. And when I lose some coins, just accept and move on.  ;)

I'm very much a HODL invester. I've sold a few bits here and there but not much. Playing the long game.

Wow, that's inspiring. In just three months, you've made much progress. I hope I can do the same in the future. Although Bitcoin is hard to buy (due to its price) i suggest that you still choose to invest on it, and try to buy some even just small amounts. Its still very good for long term investment. Anyway, I wish you good luck on your future endeavors! Hope your coins would flourish, and that you get to choose the right ones to buy.

Your 35% gains for only 3 months is already huge and congrats that you did not panic when you have a negative portfolio usually newbies panic if they will be in that position.

I do the same thing too I'm very much a HODL type of investor on which all the altcoin I do earn and bought would really be hold for long term profits. and selling them off on a certain price point if I do see that I have gained enough then I do sell off a little bit for my own needs. 3 months isn't too long and I would say it would take years to be consider on long term profits.

Today has been a good day! 50% up now overall. I'm only investing money I'm happy to loose. I'd be disappointed don't get me wrong but it wouldn't see me out on the street. A few comments have mentioned USD v BTC and I am looking at dollar (well GBP) value. So vs BYC it's not as good, but I'm happy. HODL through the good times and bad at the moment.

Thanks. No need to panic, it's a volatile place out there. I'm not looking for quick gains, I'd like to see my portfolio grow with quality coins (products) that offer the chance at shaking up the industries involved.
