Title: BFL
Post by: nepplar on May 22, 2013, 05:23:29 PM
You guys know what is going on with them? All I hear is that they are trash and a scam.

They have started to ship out some of their smaller units (Jelepeno 5GH/s) already. The others will start to ship any time. They have taken WAY longer to produce a working unit than they initially promised but they ARE working to get the ordered machines out to customers. They have had quite a few technical issues over the development cycle for their ASIC machines but shipping should commence in earnest very soon. There was an update on May 13 for the status. https://forums.butterflylabs.com/announcements/692-bfl-asic-status-3.html#post32585

PS - I am in no way affiliated with BFL, just a believer. I ordered 2 bitforce units back in February and the orders still list as 'processing'.

According to https://forums.butterflylabs.com/blogs/bfl_jody/165-tuesday-5-21-shipping-updates-page3.html, they have started shipping some of their earliest pre-orders (from a year ago).  Gavin Andersen just posted that he got his Jalapeno today and he ordered on day 2.  And so far no sight of any other units besides the Jalapenos.  I suggest you read through this board for a good while before giving BFL any money, there's lots of information/personal experience here that makes their entire operation seem rather dubious.

Very scammy behavior IMO. The CEO has a colorful past as a con artist and served jail time for it. Take your money elsewhere.

I dont understand why they SELL ASICS if they can get more profit by simply using their ;)

I think anyone that jumps immediately to the thought that it makes more sense for BFL to mine with their devices rather than sell them needs to ponder one thing: Selling a pre-order has the interesting property that they sell the hardware before affecting difficulty. Specifically, if you can amass a large, unknown quantity of pre-orders and not tip your hand about how much difficulty will increase when you ship, then you can (1) make more sales and (2) continue to mine more efficiently with your existing FPGA farm until the rate of new orders slows.

Chanson, maybe you're right.

That's a good point.  Is there a way to look back at BFL's FPGA mining hash rates and determine the delta from what they did vs if they had kept their ASICS for mining?

i got a preorder i'm selling from last august....sick of waiting. they should be out in the next 2 months though by all indications. the staff are hopeless and misleading....if you seriously want to get into asics go for asicsminer or avalon.

saw people were making money off the preorders. thought why dont i do that:

Got scammed on an ebay preorder awhile back. Luckily the CC company and paypal took care of it. I will not be dealing with BFL anymore either, and have cancelled a preorder for a Jalepeno.

ordered 2 x 50Ghas/s models month ago.
hope to get them in July.
willing to wait till the end of the year...
since they are offering refund I think it is nothing to worry about.

I'm not trying to discourage you or anything but the possibility is there that BFL might have amended their refund policy by then.
