Is giannis playing for greece? The kids got game and almost singlehandedly carried his team last season. I wanna see more of that young freak on the court.

Spain is a great team with some good players from the NBA and the Euroleague. I think they will meet Serbia in the finals and even win

Unfortunately in these European Championships will be absent, many strong players for various reasons: injuries, bad physical form, NBA.

Here are some missing players:

Greece: Antetokounmpo
Serbia: Jokic,Bjelica,Raduljica, Teodosic.
Spain: Lull, Ibaka, Mirotic, Fernandez,Reyes,Claver
France: Causeur,Parker, Gobert, Batum
Lithuania: Jankunas,Sabonis
Italy: Gallinari,Bargnani
Croatia: Tomic, Zizic, Hezonja

Serbia and Spain are the favorites but I expect many surprises

Well Spain is great for the past records of game match that they had from the last Euro league, but this time I don't think they can make it again due to lots of pressure specially more opponents was highly trained and more aggressive. If Serbia will be their probable final match opponent, then it's a big challenge for the team of Spain because the player also had a good standing and I am very confident with their game strategy to bet Spain's record for several matches of the games.

Spain missing a lot of good players will be much their downfall in this FIBA. I also think that Serbia will take home the crown for this year. However, its really hard to predict, because maybe the new faces will really try to bring out their best. Its gonna be tough one, but if Serbia vs Spain in finals, I'm going for Serbia.

Kalinic is also injured and will not go with the team on Championship. He plays very important role too. I don't know if I have favorite right now but if I have to choose maybe it would be Spain instead of Serbia but only because Teodosics absence.
On the other side there are teams with great players and we should never forget about Lithuania, they are always there with great energy..

Spain will be on top of my mind. Barring significant injuries, Spain's squad will be too skilled on the outside and especially the inside for anyone to contend with it. I also like France,  but it won't be easy. Gobert and Batum aren't participating this year, and Tony Parker has now retired from international play. Of course Serbia as well, Serbia will be without Jokic Teodosic and explosive shooting guard Nemanja Nedovic. However, a lethal outside-inside combination of Bogdanovic and Marjanovic should be enough to help the Serbs place well.

Here is my favorite to win the championship.

1. Spain - Spain should have no problem winning the easiest group in the tournament, My only concern is that some of them are too old already. And they will be without key pieces from past success,  Rudy Fernandez and Felipe Reyes.
2. Serbia - Again the lost of the key players will affect how well they perform in this tournament.
3. France - With Parker gone, it will be very hard for team France,  However coach Collet is embracing the change. It seems to me that guard Evan Fournier, will lead France to reach at least the semi finals.

My long shot here is Greece, Turkey and Croatia.

Serbia is the clear favorite to lead this group, but I think the Russians will be 2nd.
Even Turkey have a chance for 3rd place, with some luck. Latvia is weak lately.

At least it will be Balkan-East Europe show :D

I didn't know that Anthony Randolph is playing for Slovenia. They have great players, their leader on the court is Dragic. He scored 30 points today. Also Igor Kokoskov is their coach, man great NBA experience, currently assistant in Utah Jazz. I think that they can fight for first of second placed in the group A.

This was first day of championship and we have already had two great matches: Lithuania-Georgia and France-Finland. Both ended up with loses by favorites. This showed us how unprectictable and equivalent this championship will be.

I must agree, both teams such France and Lithuania definitely was upset about the outcome kudos to Georgia and Finland for bringing the pressure to a much favorite team. In reality of predicting who will win in Basketball is easier than the other sports BUT!, as we say the ball is round anything can happen even to our favorites. I hope that the losing teams especially France would bounce back be much more aggressive. As I watch the game they feel relaxed and They thought they will have an easy win.

Wow it is totally unexpected that the favorites has been defeated. However, I still think that its too early though, they can easily can climb back after those defeat. I also think that it has something to do with France missing a lot of its key players. And it seems to me that Finland has only once big advantage, homecourt. And Finland has also Lauri Markkanen, who is also campaigning for Chicago Bulls isn't it? As I see it, there's gonna be a lot of surprise coming in this tournament because there are a lot of good players that are out or opt to not play in this competition.

Never bet on favourites when it comes into basketball, especially FIBA or other tournament. I always bet handicap on the underdogs, because there always some shit happened and unexpected. I also never bet handicap on the favourites team, i prefer bet on underdogs or over/under.

Yes, a lot of surprises especially in FIBA. I haven't bet though, but I will be putting money on Finland because they have a backing of the home crowd which is really help a lot of teams especially if they are the underdog.

Really nice game, it went to overtime, but my concern is that despite the strong performance of Evan Fournier, they still lost. Fournier often was caught forcing things too much. That was his downfall with the Magic last year. He would drive in too deep or drive sort of wildly into the paint without having many outlets to score. Fournier also struggled defensively. There was a series of plays in the third quarter where Finland went to forward Shawn Huff in the post. Huff abused Fournier on the block for several baskets in a row, helping keep Finland in the game when it looked like France was going to pull away.

It's amazing, the two great favorites France (the victory of Finland was quoted  at@6 ) and Lithuania (the victory of Georgia was quoted at@3.20 ) lost yesterday!
with so many missing players, this tournament will be very balanced and with so many surprises.

For me the 4 favorites for each group are:

Group A: Greece, France,Slovenia,Finland
Group B: Germany,Lituania, Italy,Georgia
Group C: Spain, Croatia, Czech Republic, Montenegro
Group D: Serbia, Turkey, Russia, Latvia.

Great game today played Serbia and Latvia. Porzingis and brothers Bertans are super trio and could make problem to any other team in this group. Their biggest problem is bench (small roster). Serbia is going to have big problem with playmaker. Today coach Djordjevic played some time without playmaker in the team. Bogdanovic scored 30 points and seems to be that he will be their first offence option on this tournament.

Yeah Bogdanovic really carry the team and even had a game high 30 points which spoils Porzingis first game in International tournaments. He can really play bigtime and most likely will be the number one option of the team if they needed. I think the Serbian team has also improved and perform perform better in close-game situations down the stretch.
So many hype of Porzingis first international exposure though and this lost will truly open his mind against international competition.

Unfortunately in these European Championships will be absent, many strong players for various reasons: injuries, bad physical form, NBA.

Here are some missing players:

Greece: Antetokounmpo
Serbia: Jokic,Bjelica,Raduljica, Teodosic.
Spain: Lull, Ibaka, Mirotic, Fernandez,Reyes,Claver
France: Causeur,Parker, Gobert, Batum
Lithuania: Jankunas,Sabonis
Italy: Gallinari,Bargnani
Croatia: Tomic, Zizic, Hezonja

Serbia and Spain are the favorites but I expect many surprises

Spain missing a lot of good players will be much their downfall in this FIBA. I also think that Serbia will take home the crown for this year. However, its really hard to predict, because maybe the new faces will really try to bring out their best. Its gonna be tough one, but if Serbia vs Spain in finals, I'm going for Serbia.

Yeah Spain don't have many good players at the moment, but don't forget that they still have plenty of them :D I also think that we will see Serbia vs Spain match,if not in final then at least semi-final... but i think Spain would win, they are stronger imo

Russia beat Serbia, and it's surprise. This year Russian team looks solid after last two terrible performances in Eurobasket 2013 and 2015.
France won against Greece. France had huge lead after 3 quarters, but in last quarter Greece started to play wery well and they been very close to France. It's nice to see Antetokounmpo played today. I'm sure he will become bright star in next years.

Turkey just won their match against Great Britain. I forgot to mention, they could be one of the favorites for highest placement. They were hosts of finale tournaments two times and both time they played in final match fighting for gold medal. History can be repeated.

In B group Germany beat Italy. Tomorrow Germany and Lithuania will fight for 1st place in the group.
C group. Spain won against Croatia in last minutes in close fight.
And in D group Latvia with K.Porzingis won against Russia. Now 3 teams (Latvia, Russia and Serbia) have same result 3:1 and tomorrow it will hot day in fight for 1st place in the group.

Ukraine qualifies if it wins against Israel (already eliminated) and at the same time Italy wins against Georgia.

4 Qualified teams: Spain, Croatia, Montenegro, Hungary
Spain has dominated and won the group

Group D:
4 Qualified teams: Latvia, Serbia, Russia,Turkey

Tomorrow Greece and Poland will decide in direct duel who will play in knockout phase of championship, match of the tournament for both teams. And like I mentioned, Slovenia is first seeded in group A. I have expected more from Italy. Good team with good work ethic, disciplined in defence and offense with great coach...
I am glad that we saw a team that can play equal game with Spain. With the start that they had I thought that Spain will take title easily. Croatians showed that they are not just strong team on the papier but showed that today on the court too.
What a victory for Latvia... They beat Russian team. Davis Bertans had 2+1 play on second or two till the end of the game. Latvia had +15 and they needed +17 to ensure first position in the group because of better point difference in triangle of this three teams. Bertans purposely missed free throw and hope for rebound and two points. At the end they finished with +16. If all three teams finish group competition with same number of wins Serbia will be first, Latvia second and Russia third.

Slovenia should win easily against Ukraine while the other 3 games seem to be balanced.

these instead the pairs between group C and group D:

1C Spain vs 4D
3C vs 2D
2C vs 3D

It's a bit unexpected that Georgia eliminated after group stage. But they can blame only themselves - Georgia had good chances to beat Italy, but they lost in last seconds. Later, Ukraine won against hosts Israel easily and jumped into playoffs train lately.

Here's the full draw of the playoffs:

Germany vs France
Spain vs Turkey

Slovenia vs Ucraina
Latvia vs Montenegro

Lithuania vs Greece
Croatia vs Russia

Finland vs Italy
Serbia vs Hungary

I think that the semifinals will be:
Spain vs Slovenia and Serbia vs Lithuania

Spain and Slovenia are unique teams without defeats.

All the matches of second and third seeded teams of the groups will be interesting to watch, they all are equally quality teams by my opinion. From the other side, favorites should have easy job in this round.

One historical, very rare thing happened on this Eurobasket 2017. Romanian player Andrei Mandache made triple double( 14 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds). Last man who did that was Toni Kukoc, legendary Croatian player, 22 years ago(15 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists). Romanian team lost that game, Montenegro was to strong for them, but Mandache's individual achievement is really outstanding, we can not see things like that often in Europe. Congratulations Andrei.

Croatia VS Russia - Russia has a defence problem in this tourny. I dont think they will be able to win this match against strong and connected Croatia.

Any analysis on why? Im disagree maybe there are holes but not can considered as a problem. They showed a good performance in the defense area of the paint in their recent game and the game was closed. In terms of defense, I can see that both RUS and CRO has similar stats.

But on the other hand, no doubt that CRO has been better in terms of offensive respond if we will compare to RUS squad. But hey stats is just a reference and changes are always been made right at the court erasing stats.

My predictions for todays playoffs games.
Slovenia vs Ukraine. Easy win for Slovenia. Hard to say something more, because it's different level teams.
Germany vs France. Despite that France don't have many important players, I think they will win this game, because their squad still looks more solid. If Germany want to win, Schroder must get more help from his teammates.
Finland vs Italy. This game hard to predict. Finland looks good, but they played group games at home, now it will be neutral arena. I would bet for Italy, because they have more experience at playoff stage in previous championships.
Lithuania - Greece. Lithuania looks more solid for now. Greece struggled in group stage and looks that they have bad team chemistry.

Young Slovenes beat the older ones, who were older and more experienced than Ukrainians, with a devastating score. For me they are one of the favorites of this tournament.

Pure dominance from Russia tonight. They smashed Croatia 101:78!

Time to summarize what we saw in in first rounf of playoffs. There was some surprises - 2015 eurobasket vice-champions Lithuania and bronze medalists France already eliminated. Greece improved their game after group stage and Germany beat Francy after great 4th quarter. Russia smashed Croatia, Shved & co played amazing tonight. I expected more from Croatia, but as usual - they start to play terrible after group stage - we saw it in previous champs.
Quartefinals:
Germany - Spain, Slovenia - Latvia,
Greece - Russia, Italy - Serbia.
For me, most interesting game will be Slovenia vs Latvia.

I wanted to point on Greece before this game but I didn't(for some reason, I don't know why. Their last match in the group was great and I didn't know if that is a turnover in form or just one game but to win pretty easily against Lithuania... Same thing with Italy. I think that Serbia will have big big problem in quater-finale with them.
Russia and Croatia suppose to be a true derby of this round but we saw what happened. You are right when you say that they play really bad in knockout phase. And Russians are my new favorite for final game. Very good composed machine.

Great balance for the other 2 quarters of the final even though I see Slovenia favorite (Slovenia has won all matches played up to this point)

For today's set of matches i'm going with spain and latvia (https://nitrogensports.eu/betslip/56748bdUjlBb2ZVcm5LNkp2SkRRVTZleXNxZz09/) to win here and also cover the spread. Slovenia are the favorites because they haven't lost yet and imo just got lucky with the group stage. Now the lines are slowly shifting to Latvia. BOL to everyone betting today.

Edit : Not a great start for spain down 0-7 right away. We'll see if they could bounce back in the next minutes.

I agree with the spain pick. I believe they will run and make it over 14 points spread.
The second match is hard to guess. I think Im going with surprising Slovenia.

I agree about Spain, I don't believe that they can have problems.
Slovenia vs Latvia game is very hard to predict. Both teams are playing fast attacking basketball with many 3-pointers and both teams won their 1/8 final games easily. But I hope that Latvia will win, I want to see Porzingis & co in fight for medals.

What a game Slovenia vs Latvia. It's best match of Eurobasket2017 so far, so many amazing moments.  Luka Doncic is only 18 years old, but he scored 27 points today. 1st pick in NBA drafts next year!? Oh yes! And I believe that Slovenia can fight for place in final with Spain, and they have real chances
Porzingis played great, but he had to be careful because of early 4 fouls. Also, Latvia missed too many 3-pointers in second part of match.
Earlier today, Spain won against Germany. Looks like that Spain didn't played full power.

We can clearly see that no such thing as defense problem for Russia. Look they almost freeze Croatia three pointers allowing only 5 shots to 20. Plus the fact that it was a large lead it was a deadly offense. AK47 will surely happy about this. :)

The first semi-final is Spain-Slovenia, both teams have won all the games played and are the teams with the best attack.
They probably deserved to get both into the final.
At the bottom of the draw Serbia should easily get to the final.

Today, there is Spain-Slovenia, Spain is the favorite but I am convinced it will be a balanced match with very high scores (very close to 100 points for each team).
Slovenia still deserves at least one medal in this Europe.

The other semi-final is Serbia-Russia. In the direct clash of the group had won Russia, but now Serbia will be more focused and bad and will win for me
 easily.

Spain vs Slovenia will be very interesting match. Both teams so far without losses, but I think that Spain still have reserves and they didn't showed their best game so far. It's probably last tournament for Pau Gasol, and he want to end his career with gold. Slovenia haven't won any medals in their country history, and I hope they will win bronze.
I don't agree that Serbia will win their game easily. Yes, they have better squad than Russia, but Russia this year playing better than expected. Result of Russia mostly depends on how good Shved will play.

Now Slovenia deserves to win this European championship.

It was an upset because Spain was the heavy favorite to win this tournament again. Goran Dragic and Luka Doncic played really well specially Luka, I see him a good pick in the 2018 draft and if Slovenia win against either Serbia or Russia, and he played very well again in the Finals a lot of NBA scout will surely pick him up. I have to agree, They are now the favorites to win this European championship no matter who are they going to face in the finals. I haven't check the bookies yet, but what are the odds for the Slovenian's to win this tournament?

I didn't know that Anthony Randolph is playing for Slovenia. They have great players, their leader on the court is Dragic. He scored 30 points today. Also Igor Kokoskov is their coach, man great NBA experience, currently assistant in Utah Jazz. I think that they can fight for first of second placed in the group A.

I checked all the replies from this thread and I think you are the only one who mentioned Slovenia and almost everyone picks Spain (including me) to win the FIBA Eurobasketball 2017. Nice call.

Yes, I checked their line up and I'm seeing Goran Dragic and Anthony Randolph among them plus Luka Doncic we played excellent game today and has a good overall impact with almost a triple double today. I think its the combination of Slovenia hitting 3's while Spain missed a lot and Luka really playing well and assisting his teammates by creating a lot of pick and rolls. Slovenia has the momentum now and I consider them to be the favorites whoever opponent they meet now in Sunday's finals.

Thanks man, appreciate that. I saw other players, beside Slovenia 'big three' that can contribute( Blazic, Muric, Vidmar, experienced player...) and they looked like good composed team.
I thought that they will burn out against great game and great victory against Latvia and that they will lose match against Spain easily, but what a deny that was. They demolished Spanish team and right now I don't know what to think about final match that Slovenia will play against Serbia.
And what a story behind Serbian team... all those injured players... I just couldn't saw them as one of the favorites. But they played great basketball through all the tournament and with a bit of luck one of the medals is guaranteed. Coach Djordjevic and his team are doing great job scouting opponents and closing main threats, playing defence perfectly... and players trust him unconditionally, doing everything that have as a task.
Tomorrow we are going to watch exciting final game, I can't wait for it. Good luck for both of the teams.

Today is the the of finals.
Bronze medal game Spain vs Russia. Spain should winthis match. Now they can be angry after terrible semifinal match. We may see another amazing performance of Shved, but he needs more help from teammates if they want to win medal. Anyway, to be in top 4 is great result for Russia, better than mostly before tournament.
And Balkan final Slovenia vs Serbia. It should amazing match. Serbia reached final without having so many important players. In recent years Serbia shows great results - great coach Djordjevic is the main reason of it. And they finally want to win gold.
It's the first medal in history of Slovenia and it's great chance to win a gold medal. Slovenia have mix of experienced and young talented players. Also, they will play like at home, because there will be thousands fans from Slovenia.

Spain won bronze medal.
The final match between Slovenia-Serbia is like 2 hours from now.
Slovenia has been incredible during the whole tournament while Serbia totally deserved a little bit easier draw due to so many injuries they had.
Anyway, I am very happy this is Slavic finals!
Looking forward to the match!

Slovenia is showing great potential. If they continue like that they will definetely win some medal. I hope finals will be Slovenia- Serbia. :)

Amazing final! Congratulations to Slovenia, they really deserved to win trophy. Whole tournament without defeats.
Last quarter was very difficult for Slovenia. Dragic played amazing tonight, but he wasn't able to play in last minutes, because he was really tired. Also, Doncic got injury. But then Prepelic takeover leader role. Also, block by Vidmar and few succesful Randolph moments in attack was so important.
Serbia wanted for more than silver medals. But I think it's still good result, because they were missing so many players.
And congratulations to Spain for winning bronze. It was last match in national team for Navarro - team was motivated to give him medal. And Pau Gasol is still amazing, being 37 years old, I hope that we will see him in next tournament in Spain squad.

i am agree with you, Dragic is amazing players, but in the last quarter, he missed everything and Slovenia's trainer made wonderful decision, make Dragic sit on the chair and let other players to win that game, not all trainers can do it.

once again, congests to Slovenia
