Title: Monero Mining 5000 HS
Post by: bitcoinexplorer on August 30, 2017, 06:25:51 AM
Hello Cryptochamps

I was wondering what kind and quantity of GPU or CPU can provide 5000 HS capacity for mining Monero?

Please share your views.

Thanks.

rig with 6-7 x RX 480/580 can provide you around / over 5000H/s on monero

Ok thanks for the information. On one website it says rx 480 consumes 85watt and another one says 150 watt, which one is true?

Real wattage from wall is probably in the middle somewhere.

Monero mining gives me a much lower watt consumption, 6 580s at the wall for me was pull 1000w for ether and 6 700w for monero.

rx480/580 cards in some stress test can pull  over 200 watts easy during mining , mining with those cards are a real stress test / torture, with proper overclocking / undervolting the GPU/Mem you can reduce the wattage what those cards pull at the wall.

If 6x580's is pulling 1000w@the wall for ether, you're doing something wrong.
It should be way below 800w, i've seen as low as 700 with 8xx mv settings.

I can only get it to 850w in windows. When I run it in ethos it just goes up that high.

its all about proper overclocking / undervolting the GPU/Mem , Creating a custom bios for those cards , custom bios i mean modding the bios , not just changing the mem straps :) yes you can go low with energy usage  , but then you are going to miss a few MH/s on ETH mining :)
low energy rom -  less MH/s - less power usage
power rom - more MH/s (can be additional 2-4MH/s / card ) - more power draw

bios mods need to be optimized for coin you are going to mine ... If the mod is optimized for ETH , that not going to give you the best hash rate on XMR or Zcash

If the mod is optimized for XMR , that mod is not going to give you the best hash rate on ETH or Zcash ...

Choice is always yours :)

9x GTX 1060 3GB with mem OC +800 (go for Samsung) you will get about 4860 H/s with a power consumption of 480W when fixed to 0.8V. I have a rig with 8 of them, doing ~4200 H/s at 430W at the wall.
I also tested with RX570 which did not respond to memory OC at all and in the end did not deliver better H/s than the GTX 1060 with mem OC, but consumed a lot more power, so no choice for me.

Good, can you recommend me good source to buy 9x GTX 1060 3GB with mem OC +800 (go for Samsung) ?

Also, what other coins can this card min at good hash rates?

Thanks

I personally would not buy VGA cards with 3GB  mem for mining.
One day If you want to switch to mining ETH for example , soon you can not do that bc the increased DAG file size .
I would go for cards with at least 4GB of mem or more.
Do a little bit more research before making a decision what to buy or what not to buy. :)
