I purchased a very very small amount of BT from localbitcoins and transferred it to bittrex. How do I find out my private key because I was thinking of trying this paper wallet thing and I think might need a private key for it?

Bittrex will not give you this private key, because the money is not yours, but it is in a wallet of Bittrex, where they have the private key. If you transfer it to your own wallet, you wil have a private key and the money is truly yours.

You are not going to have your personal private key in your Bittrex account. Bittrex is not actually your personal wallet; it is an exchange or trading platform where you can exchange your BTC with other coins. If you are not doing some trading, you better pull out your BTC from Bittrex and store them in a wallet that provides you your personal key.

You need to first create your paper wallet, which will give you 2 keys: public and private key. The private key is what you have to never show to anyone, because they can steal your coins. The public key is the one used to receive and send transactions.

Just follow these steps, then send your Bittrex BTC to your paper wallet public key.

Remember to wrap in plastic your paper wallets because paper is prone to get deteriorated over time. Also, don't show it to anyone, or at least keep the private key separated.

It is quite a complex method. I prefer online wallets. And password you can always recover and access easier. Perhaps they are less safe, but for all the use I have had no problems with my bitcoins. Maybe we are complicating your life?

But it always depends how much btc/fiat a person ist hodling or trading. if its >5-8k$ or less i would choose for sure the most secure possibility to safe my amount, doesnt matter how "complicated" it is -think about how would u handle your fiatwallet in reallife?! dont make it thieves to easy mate...

Your Bitcoins in your Bittrex wallet are not yours : this is Bittrex Bitcoins for the Blockchain.

To have your own Bitcoins, the best academical way is :

Download and install Bitcoin core.
Synchornizing the Blockchain (one week)
In the console, type the command "dumpprivkey"
Withdraw your Bittrex Bitcoins to your local Bitcoins wallet.

You have your own Bitcoins and your private key.

the private key is the key of your own wallet. you dont need to find a private key of bittrex because the private key is your own only.

Bittrex is not a wallet and there is no private key ,, bittrex is an exchange, that is where to sell and buy atlcoin .. you can trade there, email and your password that must be maintained and save it .. Because it is very important.

Bittrex is an exchange nor a wallet so you will not have a private keys here.
In here you can buy and sell of coins that you wish, you can also deposit some coins here so you can use it.
And dont use it as a wallet as its kinda risky storing amounts here.
And if you wish to have a private key you can try to download other wallets like electrum, coinomi and many more.

Bittrex is an exchanger. They don't give you private keys.
Open a wallet in blockchain.info for exp. They give you your private keys.

I don't think Bittrex have a private key however you can add a 2fa on your Bittrex account to make sure you hold the private key on your account. Oh and by the way, Bittrex is the same as Poloniex, it is an exchange website for coins.

the amount is nothing, only bought a very small amount from localbitcoin and moved to bittrex as a test case so it went well.

now, have to check how to buy altcoins with it and move/store it to a paper wallet.

once I understand how this entire chain works, then am going to invest a little bit more in the crypto. doesn't make any sense that one should invest a lot before understanding how the mechanisms related to crypto work.

so, i'll now try to move it to a paper wallet.  hope bittrex doesn't charge me for withdrawing(?) it...

Before you store too much bitcoins in paper wallets, start by storing a small amount and then try to sweep it, to see if you

know how it is done. Also make sure if you create a paper wallet with a passphrase, that you store that in a safe place.

Bittrex is an exchange so you cannot expect to have a private key there. The only way to access your BTC there is via logging into your account in Bittrex. I admire your attitude about jumping to Bitcoin. It is necessary to understand Bitcoin first before getting on board. Best of luck for you :)

Bittrex will definitely charge you for withdrawing your Bitcoins. That's how exchange works.

You don't control your private key regardless of whether you have 2-Factor-Authentication enabled on Bittrex. That's because the private key is not yours.
In order to have exclusive control of private keys, one needs to use an offline, hardware or paper wallet.


Bittrex does have withdrawal fees which can fluctuate depending on the Bitcoin network's mempool size, which affects the fee market.

Remember not to keep your money on exchanges if you are not going to trade or invest in something (what is not recomended to do if you are a beginner). Better choose other wallet (or a paper wallet) if you just need to keep your money.

BTW, can someone please confirm two things plz:

- can I transfer the bitcoins that I purchase from localbitcoins or other places directly to my paper-wallet?
- how to confirm if the transaction (?) has actually taken place?

Yes, you can transfer btc directly from localbitcoins to a paper wallet. Every transfer will cost you a small fee. To check the status you can either check the address or the tx number (the service will give you a tx number to prove they made the transaction) on blockchain.info

thanks man, informative video. But I think the website mentioned in the video can only be used to generatoe bitcoin paper wallets? How about other altcoins paper-wallets? I found this WalletGenerator.net but it doesn't have the option of passphrase. Any recommendations please?
