Right now, I have a small portfolio but growing and I'm trying to put together a plan to get to 50 Coins that I grow over the next 3 years.
I'm looking at ICO's as well of course.

I'm looking to expand. I dont want to swing trade as I prefer to buy and hold for future home building plans.

What do you think are great coins to add for long term growth?

You can't find 50 good coins that can be held for 3 years and I don't think this kind of portfolio will be profitable, your fund probably increase at the same increase rate of total market cap.

Same thought. 50 is way too much. More than a half of them would be dead in the next 3 years, I guess.

10-15 seems more reasonable to me. Few in top 10, few in top 20 and few others.

You must have a lot of time for these. I cannot imagine constantly monitoring and following new updates, partnerships, and announcements of 50 different projects. If you have full time focus for all of these then perhaps you can manage. Or perhaps, pure holding will do in your case. Add Ripple, Stratis, AVG, DGB, Status, SC, BAT, ETC, ETH, Waves to your list. And a whole lot of BTC of course.  

i bet for SURETLY (SUR)  it has only limited supply with only 230k+ token i think. currently traded at hitbtc with 12$ price per token each. i bet this coin will follow ETH price as soon as SUR listed on major exchange.

I bookmarked all these suggestions for my personal research. I think there are lot of coins that could be special snowflake in 2-3 years. I guess I wrote somewhere on forums that I think about Espers.

Agreed. WAVES and ARK have very good roadmaps and development. Also add NEXUS, LTC, and VIA

you have to include ETC, XVG, XEM, SC, DGB,  they all have the potential to grow more plus they are still inexpensive to buy for now.

Your long-term thinking about investing in Altcoins is very good for you. Because investing in no short term in any altcoin and rejoicing with small snow. Because, unexpectedly, prices can go up too much.

I invested 2000$  in five altcoins. I have a total investment of $ 10,000. I keep these coins in the cold wallet and expect to be evaluated further. Below is the list of altcoins I have invested in:

I would never set a hard number of "50 coins." In the crypto world, chances are that 25 of those 50 won't be worth anything in 3 years. That being said --

OP, I think you should buy some dash, doge, byteball, monero, ethereum, iota and litecoin if you want a long-term profit.
As you probably already know, waves offers the creation of specific tokens adjusted to one's private business sphere. This idea is sort of promising, because even when icos are built on some platforms like neo or eth, the price of these two grows. If people will create their own tokens which is easier and safer than cryptocurrencies, the price will surely go up.

Give 70% into Waves and hodl for a year or two...and 30% into Ark or Shift.

Do you really want to hold 50 different coins for 3 years? I think you shouldn't hold too many different coins.
There are a lot of crypto currencies out here but only a few of them have real value. I'm holding coins for long term but I try to keep it less than 10 coins.
Now I'm holding LTC, ETH, CDT, CVC, TAAS, GUP, WAVES, ETC, XCP.

Are there really ppl that hold that many coins?  Because if you do, obviously you have small amount on each etc?  Thus its hard to invest lot of money into all these coins without a lot of money etc.


How many coins max would you say one should hold?


Also are there certain coins you should not hold because they are rivals?  I heard this about waves and eth and waves and straitus?  And also eth and straitus?

I am pretty sure they have lots and lots of money to make those kinds of investments. Also the amount of bitcoins/satoshi you need to put on each and every exchange that has these coins would be I think too much for small time investors such as those who invest in coins lower than $10. But I would say this is a good list and it seems one needs to save lots of cash to have something to invest on even with just a few good coins.

50 coins? How are you going to follow them all  ;D i bet that as minimum 40 of them will be crap in 3 years. So 80% of your investment will be for nothing. Most of people here even can not count 50 cryptocurrency name now  ;D

The coin that already mentioned by seem included in the main coin, i mean the best 50 coin to hold is the coin that related to the main platform such as ethereum and  waves even lisk. Because they are building its own ecosystem with a lot of effort.

yes I agree, some of the above coins have the potential to continue growing and I think will continue to be in the crypto market and compete with other altcoin.

Agree both of you, we could count maximum 10 coins / altcoins for now. 50 is too much and 3 years is so long for holding. Most of them are good for only short term investment. If you want to hold some coin about 3 years, you can buy Btc  :)

I like anything Decentralized and if you are looking for a good profit, limited supply + privacy. Understand what the objective is here, understand this is about decentralization. Would really like to lose control of your personal freedoms? Do you like to be a slave? Then vote on coins by buying into the ones that support this system.

The best coins to hold right now are Litecoin, Neo, Manero, and Ethereum.  These are the safest bet and will grow overtime.

@zempa. I like only CVC in your list. If you are planning on holding a coin for as long as 3 years, then the development team will matter much more than the idea. I reckon their team at CVC are really good from the comments I have seen in their Slack and Reddit.

As for my 3 year hold coin, it would be Aeon. I like what smooth has done in Monero. I hope he brings them also in Aeon.

If you are looking for some 50 coins, it is better to choose the top 20. You still have a remaining 30 for your personally chosen coins even if they are not from the top. Reserve the 10-20 spots for the newly introduced coins in the exchanges with very successful ICOs. If their ICOs are such success then the project and the team might also be a success. Worth investing therefore.

Im quiet confused on what does he mean about 50 coins? In quantity of coins or number of coins he would like to purchase.If he does mean on buying 50 types of coins then as you said choosing top 20 on marketcap would be an ideal thing since most of them do really have good potential even on 20 down below but i do bet you cant able to afford to put all your money on all of those coins. Most coins have been mentioned out and i do recommend the same thing too.

Why don't you invest in an index fond like DLT10? DLT10 represents an index value of the most apparently "secure" or established currencies in the crypto market. So you can bet on crypto currency in generally without buying a lot of coins.

I like your idea for holding for 3 years these coins which I'm suggesting might fall in the next few days but will be profitable in long run
First coin would ve monero : Now monero has always been a steady growth coin but if you notice it is a fully anonymous coin and with all these address tracking going on monero will surely be a solution of it in the future.
Second coin would be eth : My speculation would be $1k by end of this year but it is better if you buy couple of eth at this price as it has a better growth potential than btc.

If LINDA follows though with everything and keeps this momentum, then I would make this one of the ones to hold for 3 years. Very healthy climb. Up 400% over the last week. With all the new masternodes, exchanges, and news, I could see this coin breaking into the top 100 in the near future. That leaves about 10x profit from it's current price still.

You really need to consider putting GBYTE on the list. No ICO, no PoS, no PoW... it's called DAG, and most research I've seen so far indicates that it scales.

As a lot of people already pointed it out, 50 coins to hold is a bit... too much ? It's a really good idea to plan to do a portfolio, though. Any decent investor needs a solid portfolio, when it comes to the perks of investing. However, you can take a good advice from the best investor of this planet, Warren Buffet: "Diversification is a security against ignorance. You don't need it if you know what you are doing."

And I do mean by that, that, most importantly, you have to invest in techs that you understand, or else, you're just gambling and/or following your emotion, and that's not how to trade.

There's plenty of solid cryptocurrencies that are almost sure to become huge: Ethereum, Lisk, Bitcoin (of course !), Monero, Liteccoin and many others.

You can also find alternatives, as you don't always need to invest money to get coins. There's a lot of coins that will gladly give you free coins, in exchange of some free time. Come and get a look to Deep Onion forum, you might be surprised ^^

Or, you can also invest tiny sums in coins, really early on. By picking a few ICOs, and invest 100$ for example, you might invest in a magical unicorn that will grow up to x500 in no time. That is kinda gambling, but it's smart gambling at least !

Always remember the lessons from the past: when it comes to cryptocurrency, "first-come, first-served". ;)

No need to worry if you are only holding these coins along with bitcoins but if you are just having them in your wallets, not accompanied by bitcoins you really need to think for a while. Bitcoins are the king of the digital. Currencies and there is no pint in not holding them for a better future.

Projects I'm betting on longterm are EOS, Wagerr, Neo and Shift. First 2 could easily do 100x at some point, the second 2 even more easily 10x.

It's very interesting. I heard a lot of criticism about EOS, as there are a lot of promises but by now nothing to show and wagerr is a coin i never heard from to be honest. So you think EOS has the potential to 25mrd usd marketcap (similar to eth now) and wagerr has the potential to 1,5mrd usd marketkap?

EOS is a hugely undervalued project at the moment. If you didn't yet, take some time to go read everything about it, especially the whitepaper and some latest updates.. It's simply not interesting right now to most people because we can't expect it going live for more then half a year - no immediate profits expected anytime soon. After reading the critics about it in July I stayed out of it - until I went to dig deep about it. Now criticism doesn't convince me anymore. When it goes live, if the devs deliver of course!, it will be better by a long way than any other smart contract crypto. I'm accumulating at this lows and expect a huge payout in a year or more.

Wagerr is another one you should check out. They have that what most cryptos miss, a real use case - not just in the crypto community but mainstream. It's a guess if they make it, like everything else, but the potential is here. What sold me to buy 25k is that I'll be able to run an oracle (masternode) and take profits from wagers and that with every wager some of the tokens get burned which means - the more it gets used - lesser supply - higher price per token.

I literally know only two coins from your list. In my opinion it's better to focus on some big old coins like ETH, BTC, LTC for such long-term investments. Most of unknown coins will be already dead in 3 years.

Nem is in my list, waves and ethereum are good and best coins to hold. Even you do hodling in these coins it will give you good profit in the long term. Also, it has many support on waves and ethereum so these are my choice.

Please add waves coin, ethereum, komodo, taas , qtum , dash ,litecoin , monero , zcash and for sure if you have that for sure you will earn a lot of profit in the future. Its better to invest now in many altcoin and for sure you will earn a lot of profit if you choose that . But it depends to you what coin do want to invest. More altcoin more profit to come. Choose best altcoin for you becaude what ever happen you will be benefits to this.

Fifty coins are definitely to much to make profit, most of them wont be around in 3 years. Add eth, ltc, ark and omg to your list.

That's true the more coin you hold the more stress you will have because you really have to watch for that coins. For me 5 coins are enough to make you rich in the future and those are BTC/XEM/ETH/XRP/LTC, I will hold this coins until i become rich because of them. I believe in the future of every coin but it's more safer with me to invest on top list of the coinmarketcap.

If you want to keep it for 3 years, you have to be BTC, ETH and Tezos. No subcoins are safe to hold for three years. Maybe it's 0x and it can be raiden.

I think that 3 years is very continuous period for cryptocoins. There will be change on 1 year.

Since bitcoin up altcoins down, bitcoin down altcoins down and just when bitcoin is trending sideways altcoins that up. For the rest of the coins: eth, waves, icx, bnb, cob, sngls, xel, rads, ardr. Written in descending order of importance. Maybe someone will make corrections!?)))

You have a pretty portfolio. Add some SNT, XVG, Strat, SC, XRP, Waves, ETC, ETH, BAT, MCO, OMG, ADX, AVT, and OPT. You are looking at 50 coins in total in your portfolio so even if you add the coins that I mentioned, there are still slots left. Put in some more coins from the top. The thing here is that you will really need a lot of time to monitor them.

Talking about holding coins for years is a very long time in the crypto space.

That said, there are several coins that I would recommend,

First being Bitcoin - it is accepted in allot of areas, and if you are traveling abroad to places such as Japan you can spend it fairly easily wherever you go.

The next would be coins that already have up and running products, Waves is one example, with a working DEX and a number of ICO tokens held on the platform, with its future releases its bound to increase tremendously.

There are others, such as OMG and NEO that I would also sit on longer term as both have the potential to follow Ethereum in the future.

Can I ask where do you got that magic number of 50 coins to hold? I’m not criticizing you, just wondering, because I do not have a set number of coins that I want to hold, I’m going to buy into any project that I think has a future if that means I hold 5 coins or 500 is irrelevant to me as long as I’m sure the project I invested in is going to give profits in the long term.

I think that each person has a different investment strategy. You have money enough you buy 50 coins, if you have enough money to buy 50 coins, otherwise, you buy a smaller amount. The most important is that you have to "understand" what you invest. Don't invest by "hear" from other people

I think I would not be able to handle,let alone manage all 50 coins. I think my best number of altcoins that I can manage would be 20. Top of my list would be BTC and ETH. Then I will try my luck on BOAT, CDT, and DENT. For others, I would pick NEO, waves, and possibly ARK.

Do not forget about the waves which is now relatively cheap compared to these two, and its price next year has the chance to be even twice as high.

Some of them are below ICO but I would consider this as a good time to buy along with the dip.

3 years is a very long time in the crypto world.
if you absolutely must pick some coins take the alphas of each divison (store of value, privacy, smart contracts....)

This is another good point, many altcoins are not going to last that long to begin with, you cannot buy them and then forget about them the same way you do with bitcoin, you will need to check them every  day to see if you need to get rid of them if the price is dumping, so if you are going to hold for so long make sure you are invested in good projects, with a concept that can work and responsible devs that are not going to quit and abandon the project.

I read about many coins in this thread to hold 3 years. I just want to add DeepOnion to the list. It´s a good choice to hold in a long term because it´s a baby project and there exists a lot of things to develop yet.

The community is increasing every day and the dev is working hard on new features like DeepVault, DeepSend, etc. and others stuffs to develop. That´s why I believe the value of this coin will raise in some time.

That's a lot of coins to hold on to, 50 coins? How do you intend to manage all of them? If I were you I'd choose the best top 10 coins and focus on those coins instead of holding 50 of them. But to each his own, right? I would hold on to bitcoin and some alternate coins that have the potential to grow more in the next couple of years.

MGO is one of the best coins out there, it will grow over the next 3 years when it hits bittrex.  Also: LTC, DAY, EDO and Ripple all longterm potential.

50 is crap ton of amount. I can barely manage my portfolio with 10 coins let alone 50. lol. ETH, QTUM, PIVX, SIA, DGB, Stratis, Steemit and bunch of others.

Price of NEO ETH is too high to you should not hold it. i think WAVES is a great choice if you want to hold a long time

Mgo has always an update about the development of their project. So mgo is one of best coin in my list, also waves and eth are added. It has a potential which will give a profit.

If you really ask about three years, then the best solution will be one of the best and most popular with the best development plan for the coin, bitcoin and etherum.

This is something that I have been wondering as well, how can someone manage so many coins, how can someone research so many projects, after all if you get to hold 50 coins then that means that you need to research many more projects, I will probably need to do that all day and I do not know if even that will be enough since I will get tired of doing that very quickly.

I currently hold Ark, Stratis and Ardor with intentions of long-term hold unless something radical happens.

50 coins are way to much to do a proper management. If you really want to hold 50 coins, just open coinmarketcap and buy the Top 50 as rank and hold. It's almost sure you will be ahead in 3 years.

I'm not sure if 50 is too much... Twitter crypto folks seems to invest between 2% and 3% of their portfolio in any one given coin.... so I guess... between they have between 50 and 33 coins at any given time.

50 coins would be a lot of trouble to rebalance, manage etc imo. 33 coins doesn't seem to crazy to me...

Yeah 50 coins are simply too much, I’m holding about 10 coins at the moment and I’m already finding difficult to keep track of all my investments if my work load was 5 times greater than that then I do not know if I will be able to keep performing my job at my current level, right now cryptocurrencies are not my main job so I cannot allocate as much time as I would need if I held 50 coins.

50 coins are definitely too much! In my opinion you need to make 5-10 good investments and you'll become quite rich in 3 years. If you see 3 years ago, you'll realise there were very cheap coins that now are priced very high. So it's better to pick carefully. Quality over quantity is my mantra.

Take a look on ESPERS. Low market cap, great potential. Last months espers team had some issues and because of that the price has heavily dropped. Now ESPERS team have surpassed the issues and ESPERS its on its way again.

Furthermore November 1st there is an update and upcoming updates during next months.

I think it is a really interesting coin for Hodling for a year or two. Great profits can be made.

Just take a look at it and do not be scared by FUD, thus in the long term as the team is working hard price will surely increase.

In my opinion, it is almost impossible to predict which cryptos will perform better in the coming years, taking into account that more and more new coins are emerging every day and it is likely that new cryptos with better advantages will emerge during this time. Meanwhile, I'll stick with the classics: bitcoin, ether, Ripple, Litecoin and maybe waves, steem and deeponion.

Digital market is very unpredictable but I think trusting old crypto coins like bitcoins some famous altcoin will not harm us. The best for investment is definitely bitcoin and exerts predicted it to touch 25k dollars within next five years.

By watching its increasing fame and demand, I have full faith in its potential. Ethereum, monero, waves, litecoin, neo and Ethereum classic are some of the altcoins that I can trust for next three years.

Correct. It's quite difficult to keep up with so many altcoins and their update. I've tried holding over 10 in the past and it didn't end too well. Even with 10 I find it difficult to keep up with updates.

Three years is too long for the crypto market. Everything changes very quickly and is renewed. Making 1-2 year plans makes the most sense. Divide the investment into 3 and divide short-medium-long.

Why hold so many coin , just hold 1 coin XMR, you will be bery rich in next 3 years for sure mate, buy now, rich later hehehehe

Best Coin to keep in 3 years? I do not think it's that much. Is not that a very big number, I think with the Coin on the market today, that's impossible.

Let's talk about stability and price. No Coin is the same as Bitcoin, all AltCoin tend to differ greatly and lag with Bitcoin developments. So if we expect in 3 years the price of an AltCoin will rise dramatically just like Bitcoin, I think the odds are very small. If we invest into Bitcoin and wait for 3 years, I make sure it will produce enormous results.

So if told to say 50 Coins, I do not think I can. Maybe I can only mention a few Coins only: BitCoin, LiteCoin, Ethereum, Zcash, Dash, Monero, etc.

50 is too much. Besides BTC as my main coin also i hold Eth, Xrp and Strat as idol coin that i continue to use for achieve longterm investment improvement.

Bitcoin and etherum are coin the future of which is certain and ensures that their earnings will be minimal (it is just sure that you will earn some), but if someone wants to earn more let them risk the new prosperous coins.

BTC, LTC, ETH maybe put just some privacy coin since its gonna be big thing in future imo (read XZC :)

It is really unpredictable which coins will survive so long. The crypto space is changing fast. Most important thing is not too large coin supply and also an active community

I would hold Waves as one of those coins,

They have a solid development plan and have already proven that they can hold their value in the current markets.

Once they get their smart contracts and upgraded Decentralised exchange they will start to soar.

Buy 500 of these if you can, wait a few years and see how high they have got.

Three years is still a guess, keep in mind that is only around half the lifetime that BTC has had.

I think best coin to hold must be a currency like NEO, QTUM... dont hold token len cvc, sub if they cant change into currency.

Currently, all I know about best coins to hold even a year is Bitcoin because it ja the most popular coins I know that has the highest price. Eth is also best altcoin to hold because it is almost the same as Bitcoin. I also heard that eDoge coin, Litecoin and waves are good. Try to look at this also.

Instead of holding such a diversity, wouldn’t it be better to hold few crypto coins which are capable of giving huge profits. The digital market is very volatile but it is the future also. Soon people will use digital currencies more than paper money.

Investing in digital asset is not a risky act as far as the asset is a deserving one. Bitcoin is my first recommendation but some altcoins like Ethereum, litecoin, waves, monero and neo are also good options.

I would suggest buying some EDO tokens from Bitfinex.They recently concluded their ico raising over 80k ETH and have a pretty good app for ios/android.They have a 6 months airdrop program through which they would airdrop 25% of the tokens for holding EDO tokens in the mobile wallet.Its a good opportunity for early investors.

50 coins to hold is many in your portfolio. I have in my list neo, waves, and eth these are my best coins in my porfolio yet Im also lookin for other coins to add.

Why would you want to know what the 50 best altcoins are. Most of them are of no significance and just create noise. Now with today's prices of bitcoin most altcoins are fading away. Best altcoins are Bitcoin, Ethereal, dash. All the rest can be ignored.

But why choose 50 coins, what I mean if you really take the time to research your coins then you do not need to make such small investments in so many coins, you can invest a lot more in a coin if the overall number of coins goes down, after all why would you want to hold a few good coins and many mediocre coins when you can hold good coins exclusively.

It will be foolishness to think you can buy 50 coins and hold for 3 years, the life cycle of ICO projects will be very short and most if not all will definite go to zero, so it is better to be actively managing your portfolio eith monthly, which to be is better than holding, you can hold BTC because it has proven to be sound and not other ALtcoins

I think you better add OKcash (OK) because they have great and big community worldwide and also many projects coming up. It will be huge in the future. Just like they slogan "OKcash is the future of cash"

Correct, diversifying your investments is a good strategy but at the same time people can exaggerate, holding 50 coins is simply too much I do not know if there are 50 projects that are worth your investment, right of the top of my head I can think of 15 or 20 good projects, but 50? You will need to dig deep in order to find that many promising coins.

OKCash just by his name indicates me that I should not invest in it.

For you OP to choose the best altcoin, better check that it proven stable in the time in spit of all its empty promises, because Litecoin is not especially awesome technically, but it is hard-boiled and safe to invest in.

Definitely diversify.

I think that NLC2 may be able to get past some of its competitors if enough advertising is done. We've seen how easily it can get pumped, if it gets listed by legit exchanges(apart from yobit) then we'll see some growth.

Right now, ETH seems cheap as well. 0.04 BTC compared to 0.1+ BTC ATH.

Hundreds of altcoins living today will be garbage next year, they will die %90.  I'm guessing MarketCap will live the first 20 coin of the first. I do not know which coin to keep except the first twenty. The good ones will prove themselves next year, and they need to implement road maps. Ethereum proved itself in a few years.

While I am one of the most enthusiastic BTC investors you will find, I cannot and will not try to guess and predict that much for the coin.
I believe that it is going to be there and strong that far down the road, but it is just too much of a stretch to know for sure. Of course, there is no way that an investment can force you to keep it that long.
