Title: Putin endorsed Ethereum
Post by: Jannn on August 31, 2017, 07:20:37 AM
This is a great news especially in Ethereum.

Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsed cryptocurrency and Bitcoin rival, Ethereum, earlier this year. What does this mean for the future of the Russian technology industry and fintech in the long term? Is Russia one-step ahead with Burger King’s WhopperCoin? With geopolitics being at the forefront of everything Russia does and those experimenting with cryptocurrencies still in doubt and insecure, Putin’s interest was treated with caution.

I think that this will allow many citizens of Russia to significantly improve their financial situation. But I also heard that in Russia they want to prohibit bitcoin because they do not consider it a full currency.

A good news for Ethereum, with positive news like this I'm sure the price will be going for Bitcoin in the near future.

Whether this is in fact, time will tell. If bitcoin is banned, then this is a step backward in development.

Interesting to see whether this is genuinely good news for Eth or will it be the start of its downfall? Much like Ripple doing business with centralized banks..

Kind of goes against the purpose of what crypto is all about

I didn't expect fake articles by shady authors like Madhvi Mavadiya to be published in Forbes. Putin never endorsed Ethereum. The news was tweaked and twisted by the author (Madhvi Mavadiya) after one of Putin's advisers made positive comments about Ethereum. Till now, Putin has never mentioned a world on Ethereum or any other crypto-currency.

Earlier this year is what the news is making refernece but at the same time, we have read several conflicting reports on what the country wants to make do about crypto currency and even the recent news about how they intend to "protect" ordinary citizens from putting their money into crypto and now this news, I say there is no point relying in news like this until more facts emerge on what they really wanted.

Putin may be interested in Ethereum, because the main developer (Vitalik Buterin) is a Russian. He is known to advance the interests of Russians around the world, and therefore he may favor Ethereum over Bitcoin. But that doesn't mean that he is going to endorse ETH. Till now, Putin has made no statement regrading Ethereum or any other crypto-currency.

Russia has a chance to become one of the leaders in the global IT industry. Even though details of the meeting between Putin and Buterin are kept under the seal of secrecy, one detail leaked - the president is ready to give full support for the development of Blockchain technology, what would definitely result in a much greater volume of investments coming into the country despite any restrictions and sanctions.

Russians are developing crypto laws I read. Putin knows what's going on.

This could be the start of a long-term financial gain that Russia could see.  If cryptocurrency continues on it's current path (esp with ETH and BTC), this could prove a significant cash flow for a country like Russia.

This is good news, it means that the russian government will make a fund or will patronize cryptocurrency and I think that is the starting point of spreading the cryptocurreny. Because if russian government will fully support it, other countries will do the same thing. The question is the value of crypto will increase, decrease or will remain.

The case in Russia is similar to that in China. They also tried banning the exchanges in the past, but that was not very successful back then. So the authorities have realized that they have no option other than to legalize the Bitcoins and to regulate their usage. But even now they are debating between a ban and regulation of the crypto-currency.

As the questions about the competence of crypto money in the Russian Federation continue to flow, the editorial staff once again recalls: Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced that it is permissible to use bitcoins, etherium and other crypto-currencies. Such a statement the president made during the educational forum, which was broadcasted live by the TV channel "Russia 24". According to the president: They are not provided with anything, this money, that's the whole point, this is the main problem. They are not really tied to anything and are not provided for anything. But in general, as a unit of calculation, as they are called, "coins", they can be used, they are spreading more and more widely. As some equivalent in some segments of the calculation, it is probably possible :)

Not sure if I believe this. I guess Putin holds some ETH. Time will tell if this is true.

Ye I've heard vitalic is advising him on how to best make a state issued currency. This could be a move to safeguard his future incase we see a crackdown from the SEC

There is a conspiracy theory that they cooked up a plan to control Ethereum.
Putin clearly wants to disrupt American power any way he can.Disrupting american coin as a reserve currency is a part of this.He knows that the russian ruble is not a contender. So why not promote an alternative?
Russia in plus has a lot of people with crypto expertise who will benefit of Ethereum.
