Title: Sent Bitcoin Cash to Bitcoin Exchange Account
Post by: WasNotWas on August 31, 2017, 01:02:05 PM
I had some bitcoin in my Bread wallet (iOS), I found the Settings>Advanced>Withdraw BCH option and selected it and chose scan QR code, I then went to my account on Bitfinex and scanned the bitcoin wallet address by accident. So my Bitfinex shows as empty, and when i go to my Bread wallet it shows a transaction ID. When I try to send BCH again it says "ERROR" it has already done it.

So I went to Blocktrail and pasted in my transaction ID, and it shows the 'in' and the 'out' - yet the out is to a BTC address. If I paste that address into blockchain.info it shows empty with 0 transactions. Both the BCH and BTC wallets on the exchange show as empty.

So my question(s) are; has this BCH disappeared? Is there any way to retrieve it? If it has gone, where has it gone?

Any help or guidance appreciated!  :'(

Thanks.

Hey! You accidently sent the BCH to a bitcoin address, which means that you will need to contact Bitfinex about this matter. Once a bitcoin transaction has been confirmed, it is impossible on most cases to retract. Have you checked any BCH transaction explorer for the transaction and if it has been submitted? Bitfinex for sure is holding the key, so send a support ticket in with the TXID of the BCH transaction and explain them the situation.

it states on each deposit address that you should only deposit those coins to that address.
any other coins will be lost.

Finex might help you ouy but i think your coins are gone

In theory Bitfinex should be able to retrieve your BCH since the private key for the BTC address is the same as the private key for the BCH address. Question being how hard it is for Bitfinex to actually retrieve your BCH, as some manual action will most likely be required. Only way to find out is by contacting their support.

Thank you everyone for responding, I have now opened 2 Bitfinex tickets and haven't heard from either, so a little heads up there from me about the kind of service you can expect from Bitfinex.

Thanks again!

Only one ticket is enough. Don't expect to get a response any time soon. A lot of services can take 2 weeks to respond to tickets, it should state their target time on the support page (most sites do).

Also, don't send more than 1 ticket, it will just annoy and cause further delay to their helpdesk.

What is this? Good job it's bitfinex instead of bittrex then?

Has anybody got sending coins to wrong address back in bittrex ever? Do they reply to such support tickets?
