Title: Block 100,000 for Christmas, make that New Years
Post by: Hal on December 07, 2010, 08:29:57 PM
We're at block 96,000+ now and block 100,000 is in sight. At current rates it should show up by Christmas, depending on how much computing power increases by then.

Anybody up for a pool betting on when block 100,000 will appear? Say 1 Bitcoin per person? Post your guess here (UTC only) and commit to paying 1 btc to whomever's closest. Let's close the guessing after block 98000 so late guessers don't have too much advantage.

I'll start and pick noon Christmas day, for fun.

Well there wasn't much interest in the bet, that's fine. Looks like Christmas was a little optimistic anyway. By my calculations, at current rates block 100,000 should show up in about 6 days, 2 1/2 hours, or about 10:30 PM UT on Dec 28.

Thanks! I'm enjoying the countdown to 100,000. Looks like it might not happen until the 29th, but it'll be soon.

I think 105,000 is also a significant milestone. It's halfway to the first generation amount decrease (after 210,000, each block only generates 25 bitcoins)
