Title: Need Help: 5970 not start after 1 hour break
Post by: rouf553 on May 23, 2013, 05:19:47 AM
Hi,
I'm always facing the same problem. When my ATI 5970 stop running for 1 hour it needs little hit to start again. Without hit it stays inactive.

Any solution?

Perhaps check your 6 and 8 Pin connectors on the GPU. I've had a case where one of those metal contacts became loose.

Is the fan not starting to spin without the hit?

Fan start with 100% speed.

My 5870 has died in a similar way.  Mines for a little while, hits 92C, dies.  Won't mine again until it's cold.  Heat sink is fine, fan is working.

When I run it as the only GPU in the machine, I can see artifacts all over the screen, so the memory must be stuffed.  It's just knackered.  >:(

After providing some hits on the gpu card was working fine. But today it is not starting.

Any solution?

Well if you have to physically hit it, then there's obviously a break in a connection somewhere.

Watch the temps on it.  Is it overheating?

do you have the cards overclocked and memory underclocked at first run?

5970's have problem with what they call cold solder and can have problems till they warm up.

i have 1 5970 on air that has to run at default clocks till it warms up abit before i change values.

pain in the ass but yeah

Have you excluded a software issue. Try using the card in another system.

manually hit

Seems like you have problems describing the situation. Get a friend over and get him/her to talk to you and write down the situation.

Is a manual hit the same as a physical hit? Temps? Software? PSU? Is it properly situated in it's slot? etc.

It's a bit like asking for help with your bread-baking, and it turns out your oven was at 50 centigrades and no yeast in the dough.
