Title: Is LTC more profitable for casual gpu miners?
Post by: starships on May 24, 2013, 12:57:58 AM
I'm just wondering if I should switch over to LTC mining with my single 7950. I'm making about $70/month with the current prices, how could I calculate potential LTC earnings?

Well you are between two volatile currencies that are really close right now in terms of mining profitability.
On top of that your hashing power is to small.
So i think the correct answer is : flip a coin.

The pool i m mining right now (coinotron.com) gives you an actual ltc/day estimation according to your kh/s.It helps.

Hi,
the best Litecoin profit calculator can be found here:
http://ltc.kattare.com/calc.php

Just type in the info and it will tell you how much you will make including the cost of power and even hardware. Also maybe you want to try joining a smaller pool with less fees than coinotron.

Shouldn't the difficulty scale with the LTC/BTC cost? Or do people just not switch between LTC/BTC mining to capture the arb?

yes, depends on a number of factors (difficulty, coins allotted, etc.) I had a hard time keeping track, so I set up a little site yesterday to show dollar amounts earned by hardware hashing speeds.
I'm open to comments/suggestions about the site: http://www.WhereToMine.com (http://www.WhereToMine.com)
Hope it helps!

Thanks for all the responses. It does seem that the profit is about the same with either currency, I think I'll stick to BTC because it is more widely accepted (Humble Bundle accepting BTC now :o).
