Title: Begginer here. Need a bit of help
Post by: tobaccoGuy on September 04, 2017, 05:24:43 PM
Hello!

I am a bit of noob. And I just started early :P. I already made exchange account on Kraken, bought some small ammount of BTC coins and ETH coins. Now where to put them? My friend speaks of ICOs but there is just too much of them. So I thought I'd start on my own a bit. Which one is good ICO for beginner?

Thanks..!  :D ;D

What do you mean "which one is good ICO for beginner"? What? ICOs have difficulties now?

Do your research. You can view new ICOs on the Alternate cryptocurrencies > Announcements (Altcoins) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0) forum. Read through the projects' whitepaper and decide for yourself if you think that certain new cryptocurrency has the ability to innovate. Also take a good searches on the team, if they're actually real people and take a look also if the whitepaper is just copied or not.

Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I'd hodl (forum joke) onto those coins for the moment or diversify your holdings into pre-existing coins rather than speculating on ICO's.

Despite what the media may think, this isn't a bubble or get rich quick scheme. Many more coins fail than survive.

If you're looking to pick up a good altcoin for cheap - I'd head over to Novaexchange and pick up some Deep Onion (as you can see by my signature, I'm quite biased). Heck, now's a good day to pick up just about any altcoin for cheap. The previous poster hit the nail on the head, though - research, research, and then do some more research.

Not sure about your ICO question, but if you are wondering what to do with your BTC and ETH, it really depends on you ultimate goal. If you are satisfied with the amount you have purchased and just want to store them, then I suggest that you put them in paper wallets or offline wallets where you hold the private keys.

If you are interested in trading (like day trading) to increase your coins or fiat or add new altcoins to your portfolio, you would need to move some of your coins to an exchange. Be sure to do research on the exchange that you think fits your needs and is trustworthy.

If you're truly a beginner, stay away from ICOs for now... Learn your way around the market, the bigger established coins... And then you can move VERY CAUTIOUSLY to ICOs.

You can depend on those ICO's but dont just invest and join without learning what are their plans for their coin/token. If I were you, I'll treat as my gold and just hold it and lock and will do nothing about it. It's a goos long tern investment or you can do it with btc only or Eth only and invest the other part to altcoins, you can depend with coinmarketcap.com for your preference.

the easiest and most secure way for beginner is to transfer your BTC and ETH to Gdax(COINBASE-trading site)

you dont need to worry about if coins been hack Coinbase is insured they guaranteed to return the coins or money if your account was hack

Ok that is some solid advice, I have changed my mind about going full in. I will search for some ICOs I'd like and put little amount into it, and keep the BTCs and ETHs. Thanks, it goes well, it's just a bit slow.

Thats good. Before you enter in another endeavor or investment, study first the system.Do your own research as most suggested here. Do not enter in something that you did not know, you might end losing more money.

ICO coins are mostly not great.

I would look at older reliable developers that have been working for years on realistic roadmaps that near fruition.

Either that or icos that were distributed widely and found their true market level.

Reseach is key. Asking for specific projects here is like asking people to spam their own investments on you regardless of their real worth and prospects.

You could get lucky following others but you could be parted quickly from your btc.

Even keeping btc may not be a bad move again research that possibility before switching it to something else.

I suggest you to read the Announcement boards in Altcoins.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=159.0

For me, I will read the white paper of the project to understand more. I will find the project that is promising and will bring good returns.

Good luck to you.

beginners can trade by using BTC and ETH you just bought, but all of them must have a companion from senior to trade can run properly and also produce. but if you want to trade it would be nice you can ask for tutorials from friends or anyone who is more senior to be able to provide direction.
with the smallest capital can make trading with your first purchase. Good luck

Do a research and try to make a comparison for every ico in that idea or innovation, such as the ico project based on the payment system have some projects that already run the system or development.
But this will need a lot of experience.

I think you should be more careful first to choose ICO. otherwise you can lose your money if the ICO is still unclear.
Look for the legal ICO, because it can guarantee the security of your money from the uncertainty of the price that sometimes goes up and sometimes also can drop drastically

ICO's are very risky and many end up failing. Its perfectly fine to just hold (or better yet HODL) BTC and ETH.

If you want to take it up a notch, explore some established altcoins. Learn about their technology, about their market behavior. Read news about them. You are more than welcome to use my website for the latest prices and news: https://ccowl.com

You can then invest into the altcoins you like or you can trade them. Some use daytrading (swingtrading) to make / or lose quick bucks. But it takes time, and many make as much money, but with less hassle by smart investing.

Finally, the most risky thing out there is ICOs. You really need to learn about established cryptocoins and the history of similar ICOs before investing in them. But a smart investment into ICO can quadripple your money in no time. But it can also lose all your money.

don't shy him away from ICOs, its a good option to profit quickly actually.

invest your eth to projects that is being funded heavily already and then dump your tokens when it gets listed even on etherdelta, this is my advice and then if you really think the project is quite useful and can help change the world, buy back and hold.

If you like their idea, good for you then. Since you believe their project, your only option if you want out of that is to sell at a gain, not at a loss. Never sell with a loss and keep holding even if price dumps. Always remember, getting profit is your goal so never sell early and never sell too late and the best strategy for a beginner is to sell immediately after gaining 25% profit from the investment or more depending on the amount.

Thanks for words. I don't I will daytrade, I am just gonna lose my money + I'd like to invest and wait. Probably less profit but less nerve wrecking too.

I like the idea. Yes, should take out some investment at gain, not at loss (that would be kind of stupid).

Your just a newbie, why don't start for the mean time on reading in the forum. Gain knowledge first, so that you may not be like other newbies rushing themselves into something which they don't have enough idea into trading, or ICO. But here is the link anyhow of the ICO choices so that you may familiar with it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0

The best buy plan for newbies that don't how to trade to buy most famous coins (BTC ETH) and hold them.
When you'll have enough confidence in your knowledge, and after reading a lot of info, because apparently you don't even know what is blockchain... then you might buy some altcoins.
Don't be part of ICO's, it'll be a nightmare for you...

I don't know if there are any "beginner" ICO's. The best thing you can do is to research ICO's and look for positive reasons to invest in that ICO.

Personally I look for:-

- Good solid team - Great developers, but also a strong big team and experienced ICO's. Does not matter how good the concept is, if the team isn't great the project will fail.

- Whitepaper - Read over the whitepaper, this paper shows the process, how the coin will work and what they are aiming to do. If this is poor, it is a bad decision to invest in them.

- Strong social media channels - This is how they communicate with potential investors, if this is poor, or lacks communication this is turn off for me.

- Does it make sense? - This is one that a lot of people look over, do they need an altcoin? or are they just doing this to be able to create an ICO? Ask questions and challenge them.

Once these are in place, i would get involved with a bounty campaign. This way you can learn more and spread the idea of the altcoin. There are so many ICO's popping up that doing your homework is very important. I do not believe that there are a lot of scams, but you need to be careful.

I agree. To become involved into any ICO you need to have at least basic knowledge of ICO and the crypto world in general, so that you would understand how the process goes and what risks are implied. Otherwise, it would be a loss of time and money.

Sounds like quite the calm and collected decision from a beginner, well done ;) Tell you what, if you are like me with only precious few Bitcoins and ETH to trade or invest in ICOs, just take your time to do research and make decisions to get in on relatively cheap coins with a view to hold them at least until 2018.

I have found myself extremely relaxed after stopping my bad habit of checking trades and prices. Also, I stopped looking at ICOs. If I find one I like good, but I no longer hunt.
