Well the price per coin isn't relevant since it's just the number of slices a pizza has.  Ripple for example is only 22-cents a coin but is the 4th largest market cap.  The question to ask is whether or not the coin's market cap will increase.  As for the coins you listed, I think Ripple and Omisego have a future.  I'd stay away from Dogecoin for long term investing... and Nem will require a lot of constitution because it's going to be a very chaotic few weeks due to China's ban on ICO's.

Price of one coin doesn't matter. What is important is your amount of investment. I think Ripple is a good choice, But  not because of its price per coin. Ripple can increase in price very much.
If you think that, coins with lower prices, has more potential to rise in price, you are completely wrong.

you just need to look at the whole picture not just the price

What do you mean by "Nem will require a lot of constitution because it's going to be a very chaotic few weeks due to China's ban on ICO's."?

You should not base on the price of an altcoin because there are coins which are above $1 did sill able to grow as the time goes by.The advantage on investing on this coins are they are affordable and you can still able to purchase in bulks but this kind of view or habit isnt guaranteed that it would really give you profits later on because some coins didnt really tend to move their prices for a long time.

Because of the large circulating supply, they don't increase much in value. For long term ripple, iota and nem are ok.

What ever price it is, but as far as I know, the minimum altcoin purchase from most exchange site  is 0.0005btc, thats around $2usd to $3usd. Your $3 might become $9 in the next year, or $100 after 10years. So better make a higher investment to get a higher  profit.

I think you need to look at the idea behind the project to know if it has a long or short term goal.

If you think a coin will grow up in the future, has a nice team and a nice dev, theyre very active, they know about crypto. Then its better to invest in a coin very early. But even with all these good arguments it needs a lot of time the get some huge profits. And on the other side you could loose all your money ( if the team is scammy or they just want to do something else in life). But that can happen with every coin.

I think the project matters not the coin price.

I have no idea too. Maybe he wants to say that there is a new crowdsale platform Comsa coming out soon, and it is based on Nem blockchain. China has banned ICO's and there will be much less people investing in Comsa = xem value will not go up. You can say the same about Ethereum or Waves.

If you've got money to spare, there is no harm doing an experiment and seeing what happens.

P.S. There is another experiment going on on reddit, where someone has bought the top 31 alts and is going to hold for a year and see where that gets him:

For me as a young investor, I think altcoin is the good because I will spend less to get more coins and if goes to maybe 10x or 20x I will make more profit.

i can't afford to buy 100BTC or even ETH.

The <$1 value may not always be taken as negative sign. The supply of the coins listed above is much more than what Bitcoin has so prices are naturally to be lower.
Moreover, when prices are low growth possibility is much more. You can make 50-60x in low value coins while only 5-10x is possible in Bitcoin.

What is price of one coin is totally irrelevant. If you really want to see a value you need to look at marketcap, so price * number of coins.

But there ware way more important things then numbers when you valuate cryptocurencies.  technology and development should be number one.
