Title: Help with Ant Miner S9!
Post by: pnbamania on September 09, 2017, 03:01:15 AM
I bought    Corsair Certified AXi Series AX1500i 1500W 80 Plus Platinum Power Supply with S9 Miner few months back and basically brand new both.. I bought S9 from Bitmain and PSU from newegg.. after hasing for few months with no issue my PSU seems to be cutting power out to miner like when I start them they miner hashes at 13TH/s but after 10 mins or so the PSU starts blinking red light and miner stops hashing.. I can't mine anymore! Could this be a BAD PSU? Or Bad Plug? OR Bad connector? The PSU has a built in power surge protector is this broken? How do I test?

You are pushing that power supply way too hard. Your s9 is using around 1400w. ATX computer power supplies were NEVER meant to run that close to their limits for 24/7/365. Time for a new power supply.

In general I agree Loading PSU's over 80% is a big risk for such sensitive and expensive equipment
However I disagree.by experience..I used MANY Corsair AXi series..860's 1200's for Alt mining with GPU's
I often ran them at very high loads +85%...... 92% for weeks straight...but I had wicked winter cooling.
I never had a PSU fail The AXi series are platinum and almost indestructible but I did occasionally trip breakers and have GPU's crash due to overdraw or source fluctuations.
Don't forget your source power from your panel from the Electric company fluctuates also.

but to reeally know for sure. (Maybe first learn what the RMS means... when they say 1600 watts RMS)
All Corsair AXi series come with dongle for CorsairLINK2 software ....
You should be monitoring your power usage using this software..
I bet you will see your problem happen live if you do this...This might help to find out if it really is overdraw on PSU or source.

I am also assuming you have absolutely nothing else drawing or running on the same breaker.
Bottom line is yeah you need a new PSU...

Just bought http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001812 brand new and still no luck, after 10 mins the PSU stops and goes on stand by mode and refuses to power the S9

Check the specs before buying next time. They show a max of 75A on the pcie connectors rail, so only 900W to those...  :o

Sorry, but that is what you get by buying a bad quality and not enough power capacity power supply.
