Title: Question regarding CPU mining
Post by: DBM31 on September 09, 2017, 05:04:08 AM
Hey guys -

I've traded but haven't done much in terms of actual mining, but I have handfuls of servers always on hand at our DC (some months more than others) so just utilizing them a bit while they are idle since power costs here are so minimal. I was curious if there's any resource available to lays out what altcoins are able to be mined via CPU (and is even minimally worth it)? I only know of XMR more the most part, the rest seem pretty much GPU only if you're going to do it.

Sorry if it's a dumb question - figured I'd check.

Thanks

Well, there are many coins that are CPU mineable and some are exclusive to it. To name a few - XMR, NXS, HODL, RIC and much more...

Is it more that quite a few 'can' be mined via CPU, but it just isn't as efficient as GPU mining? XMR is the only one I actually knew of (I was sure there were others obviously). Just trying to get an idea if there are any others that are CPU exclusive or at least primarily CPU based mining.

I don't quite remember, but I did stumble upon some crypto-coins that were exclusive CPU-mining in a multi-pool page like yiimp. Yes, GPU Mining is obviously more efficient and profitable compared to CPU but if you can get a hands on some ASIC. They are way more profitable and I feel like ASICs and GPUs are a long-term mining.
