I'm not experienced in this either but my understanding is that you don't need a computer to stake coins but you do for a masternode.  I've heard of people using a Rasberry Pie to hold masternodes.  That's probably a cheaper option.

a rasp pi may work  depends on the coin.

if the blockchain is big and you run a master node

you want a very fast drive.

you want to be able to clone the drive for a back up.

you want a windows or a linux not apple

I got fucked by PPC  I had an apple   they wanted to force a upgrade to the nodes and did not provide an upgrade for an apple only windows

I have 2000 usd worth of PPC which  was stake long enough to reach a 99% probability to earn interest so to speak of around 40 dollars.

But I had to upgrade on the node could go dead losing my coins  and I could not upgrade since apple upgrade was not give to me .

So I sold off  the 2000 in coins for 1960  never got the interest and never did a POS coin again.

So my take is don't do a POS coin

but if you do do it with windows 10  which means
something like this

add more ram and an ssd

For staking just about any PC will do, but i you are doing multiple coin you will need to have the wallets open while you stake.  This mean lots of RAM.  16GB at a minimum.  I suggest Win10, 16GB of RAM and a low-end Ryzen by AMD.  If you already have a PC you plan on using, just make sure it has 16GB of RAM and you should be good.  I am staking 5 coins on this PC (not a gaming PC) currently and I do not notice a performance hit.

I am staking EMB, GRWI, RAIN, IFLT and DNR
Make sure you back your wallets up.

Win7 is also good, there is no need to use malware-like Win10.   :-\

Old multicore CPUs are also good (and cheaper). AMD FX-8350, for example. Though I doubt that someone needs such computing power for staking.

16 or more Gbs of fast RAM is necessary, so as 500+ Gb SSD disk for blockchains.

jaymalteser, give me a link to your preferable computer store and amount you are ready to spend to assemble your staking wallets storage. I will help you with my pleasure.  ::)

How much us the dnr staking rewards? I didn't know itnwas a pos coin,

About the pc you can buy a mini pc using low power or how i did.. go on amazon and rent a vps for 12 months is free and it can keep you some wallets opened

Hi all,

Thanks all for the info! I was just researchin a bit and found out that these Mini PC from Intel (NUC) seem to be much better, aren't they? I think they have the following advantages:
- They have quite an amount of configurations which support 16 GB RAM and 1 TB space, and cost almost half in price to conventional gaming PC/Ryzen AMDs.
- compacter in size, so easy to transport to take with ....
- The power consumption, which is infact important since they are supposed to be switched on the whole year, its mostly around 20-30 Watts which is like one 6th-8th of a Ryzen PC.

What do you guys think? looking for some feedback before buying!

Regards,
Sameer

Old gen PC seems okay. I'm using AMD Athlon x3 (8GB RAM) for Peercoin (PPC) (Peercoin only). I'm doing stacking and solo mining with Peercoin at 2015. For multiple coins stacking may you need a middle-rank PC, and focused on Memory (RAM) and storage size (also read-write speed).

I also run my Bitcoin Core on that PC. If you have old one PC at home, maybe you can try it first, before buying the new one.

I am already kinda staking 3-4 coins and they run stable...its just the though that when i run into sum other 5-6 new coins this year.....I wanted a separate machine and not put all my virtual cash on my local PC, rather put it into a standalone system..... though you are right if the blockchains are synchronised an old PC works fine, but my experience is with only 2-3 coins and am planning to have atleast 9-10 in total this year....can't stick with one :)

That is an exception.
A few people here have to give you suggestion about the device that you need, seem good enough to your needs.

for staking you mainly need a bunch of ram if you want to stake a bunch of wallets.
