Title: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: nikisev on September 11, 2017, 04:46:10 AM Hi.
I have couple questions about this forum 1) Is there any reason this forum uses SMF 1.1.9? Version 2.0.X is available. 2) Is there any planes to provide mobile support? I like the content and i have spare time when im commuting from place to place. Would be awesome to be able to read some posts from mobile phone. Thanks Title: Re: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: Jet Cash on September 11, 2017, 06:28:24 AM The current layout is comfortable and easy to read, so I hope it will always be an option. I view posts on the same computer that I use to run my node, so moving to a mobile is not an option for me.

Similarly I don't have any issues with the current layout, everybody is different though. theymos can't please everybody, will always be some disgruntled users. A new open-source forum software is developed so I don't see the need to migrate to SMF 2.0 when in the near future we are going to ditch SMF completely.1) Is there any reason this forum uses SMF 1.1.9? Title: Re: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: LTU_btc on September 11, 2017, 11:17:03 PM I never had any issues with bitcointalk by visiting it from smartphone, despite that my smartphone is already old. I'm using forum on mobile more often than on PC. I don't know why you can't use forum on mobile. For me, forum loads fast, text size is good, sometimes I jist need to zoom in when I need to click something.
Honestly, I don't know many forums which works better on mobile than bitcointalk (except these who have mobile version). Title: Re: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: purplekush604 on September 13, 2017, 01:31:06 PM anyway to get a mobile view on youre cellphone? I can only view it in desktop mode which makes it harder to scroll and read.

Right now it "works", but it's difficult to use, and requires zooming in.. Title: Re: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: nikisev on September 15, 2017, 10:53:45 AM Hi. Thanks I used to think that bitcointalk looks terrible in comparison to other forums. While I was using it more often I started to appreciate the simplicity and speed of current forums software. As someone said, a new software is being developed. There was a link to beta version of the site somewhere. I dont really care how it looks, but i would really like mobile version. And it not simple at all , search results can be much better.Search can be faster, and i dont really understand timeouts on search attempts. The whole hierarchy system of topics is not efficient. Forces you to use search, which is limited and slow. Its awesome resource no doubt. But it can be much better. Title: Re: Bitcointalk forum outdated and lacks mobile support Post by: nikisev on September 21, 2017, 09:29:35 AM Another thing is why not to add some plugins to forum to make it easier to handle?
Like character counter, or word counter in the post. Its not sever side so no additional load. If you in some bounty campaign they will require you to post certain amount of characters or words every now and then. If text box for new post would count characters and words it will be ....nice ...i dont know. Chrome, Edge, and UC all work just fine on mobile for me.
I'm not against any changes, but I do hope that I can continue to browse with ease. If anyone is using UC Browser on their mobile and things are looking ugly and broken, check to see if your Speed Mode - if your version has one - is turned on. If it is, turn it off and see if it makes a difference. Speed Mode is great for reading single page news articles, but may not be so great for viewing forums much less posting in them. I can only view it in desktop mode which makes it harder to scroll and read. Pretty sure it's easy to browse and scroll, you just need to zoom in and read the whole thing, no problems. Unless you have some problems with your vision that really hurts to view on small texts. Also, we have had a version of bitcointalk in tapatalk last 2015 (not sure if it:s still supported) and even that app views the forum as is.
