So I suppose they try hard for that approval and they will do anything hard to get it.

It is not THE key factor but I believe it significantly generated to the hype around the project. VISA &/or Mastercard are incredibly enticing as they are readily accepted at almost any retailer around the world. (it was one of the main things that enticed me to participate in their ICO).
