I am buying as soon as a rumour hits twitter/reddit/slack and hold until the event is over, often selling hours after the sharpest rally. Gradually, altcoins will probably tend to show similar behaviour that we see in stock market. Rumours would be swallowed by highly efficient markets and you would be uncertain about direction after news appearence. Of course it depends on the importance of the event and depends on the shark. Therefore, it is important to update the news frequently and buy at the appropriate time. I do not deny that there will be cases of events but coin does not increase and decrease (less happens) due to market case bad news.

I did well with the SYS wallet release and GRS dev update. Both jumped considerably before the actual release, but then died afterwards. Buy the rumor, sell the news is definitely the way to go from what I have seen so far. The market seems to be anticipating this already, trading volumes on Bittrex increased quite a lot and an uptrend seems to be forming.
