Hi there,

So I am trying to start a bitcoin marketplace.

However, the name I thought, let's call it bitxyz , the .com domain is unavailable. (Parked domain for selling)
I've got .in, .net and .io

Should I start the marketplace using .in or .io knowing that .com is owned by someone else?

But the one holding is asking $10k for it -_-

.com still rules the internet but if you really want to use that domai, then io would not be a bad choice either. I do not think.. In should be a right choice

You may choose a different name in that case if you are looking for .com
or just go for that .io extension, it is best and now much popular than .in

Oh, there is so many available domains. Just try some another.
For example:
bitalts.com (bitcoin altcoins)
bit-tokens.com
bitcoin-live.com

etc.

aside from .com domain, .io is one of the most use and nice domain as of the moment.
It will depend on the name of your website.
Example
bitcoinsplit.com or bitcoinsplit.io
It will depends also on the availability of your desired domain.

Use should use .io

Use various techniques to smartly modify existing keywords to generate new words that are brandable. Generate new domain name by mixing in other words and popular suffixes like ly, ify etc. Use prefixes or suffixes overlapping with the keywords. For example, the letter X in front or at the end of the word is good for the exchange site. Words like market or store are recognizable for marketplace.
Find a unique name and definitely register your .com domain as as primary. You can use it for a blog or a home page or as redirection to the .IO domain.

If you really wanted to buy an .com domain, i suggest that you create a new domain name that is unique.

Dot Com is and always will be the king. You can try out variants of the name you like but is registered. Alternatively you can buy a domain from the aftermarket in your budget. BTW, what is your budget? I have a few bitcoin related domains which may be in your bdget ;D

.com is better but you can try co.in don't use .org or .net just a suggestion good luck..

If you need to use the same name, using a .net extension is a good alternative in my opinion. I also think a .io extension should work well.

.com is the best option in any case. Maybe you can try on any domain register to find a suggested alternative. Maybe character "a" added on begin or at the end of domain name can be useful and they did not ruin your message which you want to send with your domain name.
Also, .net is second best TLD.
.io is not bad it's getting more popular lately
maybe you can think about .me TLD it has fine rate.

One my suggestion do not use "-" in your domain name. There are many negative sides with - in domain name

You can use any domain but name should be unique to get attracted the people with the name and services. In .com we should able get many domain available that's the reason most of the people use to start domain under .io, .biz, onion and etc.
Let you check the domain suggestion of mine: market4btc.com, bitcoinmkt.com, placebtchere.io, bitmarketer.com and btcaltplace.com

.io is hot.
.tech or .co seems cool too.
if it's ending in coin, then co.in would be tricky.
