It is annoying, but you should have atleast a dozen or so by the time you have 4 hours in... its the 4 hours that sucks...

The thing that ticks me off, is I was on these here forums >BEFORE< they enforced that silly rule, and still I have to go through the same rigmarole.
Life is not fair. Oh well.

Not to mention the times I've had to re-validate on IRC/fleanode, and all sorts of hoops, bells and whistles just because a whole swarm-horde influx of newbies onto BTC...
Anyway, I just really hope that ripple addresses some of these trust-network issues :D maybe integrate it with btctalk forums wouldn't be a bad idea to avoid this silly thing :)

LOL... or even funnier in my case, signed up years ago, posted, lurked for years. Actually want to post something in ripple forum, (last post was in 2011 or so) and so finally log in only to find NOW I can't post! Was in complete shock and horror :) I'm surprised if they even count my previous posts as part of the '5' :-P

P.S. I *missed* the memo where it said this introduced. Gotta love that about the btc community. It's the only place where things change all the time, at a whim, no-one gets notified and you only realise when it's too late! :)

I'm glad I didn't jump on the BFL last year.  Been running a 6850, 7570(Free card) and an Nvidia 650m(another free card with warranty) for now.  It is very interesting to go through these posts I've watched for a while now.   

Yeah same. I thought paying 2500 for an investment that pays itself in 5 days is unreal.

Then again, that dude that bought a print machine for more than US$20k actually paid pretty cheap too for current standards.

Currently at 2.4 g/hash. Am a little disheartened by everyone saying that it doesn't make sense for me to be mining at this speed with 7970s. I don't care, I'm going to keep doing it and adding a bit more power along the way. Should be useful as a heater this winter!

I noticed the second I visited these forums.

I use my own and my wifes computer and i get roughly 1200khash/s with them.

Right now  im lending the power to a friend that works on a Litecoin pool.

Do any of you use Cgwatcher? I have a problem when i want to use the conf editor.
My "gpu-vddc" settings refuses to be saved when using the editor. Don't know
what im doing wrong.

I was wanting to look into the Litecoin pool more, not sure if machine is up to scratch

I've noticed a trend in Bitcoin forums, chats and groups at VK.com (our local competitor to Facebook): people used to discuss a lot what graphics card to choose and how to build a farm, but suddenly a few days ago people start offering their farms for sale a lot, often quite cheap, and there is much less GPU mining discussion remaining. People start realising that now is a perfect time to cash their rigs out before the market is dumped with cheap used GPUs and mining rigs, because ASICs are there and growing amazingly fast, as is difficulty.

So there is my final advice for newbies before I break free from this jail:

Don't buy GPUs for mining! It's too late. The difficulty will continue to rise fast, and BTC/USD isn't going to rise significantly for some time. Instead, it's likely going to dive a little under 100 and stay there for a while. But don't worry, you still have chances to become early adopter!

Invest in ASICs! Yeah, that's where is all the momentum right now. Grab as much ASIC hashpower as you can afford. Right now, you have little options and will probably have to wait and even risk, but in a few months there will be finally a real competition in ASIC market. Alternatively, you can grab some PT ASICMINER shares: they bring solid (and growing!) dividends and they are seriously underpriced right now. I've already grabbed some at 2.5 and now I'm watching as it steadily rises towards 3.

Watch out for new opportunities! Grab you chance to become early adopter! Using your brain will greatly help in this :)

Diversify! Because you know, anything can fail, but it's VERY unlikely that everything will fail.

 I guess there is a 5 min idle timeout, so make sure to refresh from time to time

Just opening a thread and leaving it open won't get you the time. You have to actually be browsing/active. Not sure what the exact criteria for added time is ofcourse, but you really have to browse.

My plan is to invest some money to get started and if I could earn my investment back I will be satisfied.
