Title: Google or Amazon payments for BTC
Post by: mndrix on December 09, 2010, 11:33:44 PM
I've seen plenty of discussion about PayPal and problems related to credit card chargebacks.  Having developed against PayPal APIs for years, I'm guessing they have almost no fraud detection on their side and probably let through many fraudulent transactions knowing that their customers will eat the chargeback.  Has anyone tried selling BTC through Google Checkout (http://code.google.com/apis/checkout/developer/Google_Checkout_Digital_Delivery.html) or Amazon Payments (https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/business/asp)?

I realize that both are subject to chargebacks since they accept credit card payments, but wondered if either one does a particularly good job filtering out fraudulent transactions.  I imagine Amazon is the subjected to thousands of fraud attempts every day.  Does anyone have specific experience with either of these two?

EDIT: This comparison of payment processors (http://www.merchantequip.com/merchant-account-blog/1027/a-comparison-of-3-alternative-payment-methods) is informative.  However, since irreversible transactions are like a honeypot for credit card fraudsters, I was hoping for any experience specifically related to selling BTC.

For those finding this thread later, Google Checkout prohibits "currency exchanges (http://checkout.google.com/support/sell/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=75724)" through their service (look at the very bottom of the page under "Wholesale currency"). So I suppose it doesn't matter how good their fraud detection is  :)

Ditto for Amazon regarding "currency exchange (https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/helpTab/Amazon-Simple-Pay/User-Agreement-Policies/Acceptable-Use-Policy)".  No wonder this thread was so quiet

But.... "legally speaking".... or "tos speaking"....   Is Bitcoin REALLY considered a "currency" by Google Checkout and/or Amazon?  That seems like a good question to ask them.  It bet they'd consider it "virtual merchandise".

The Bitcoin Store was turned down, after a Google Checkout review.

Also prohibited by Google Checkout:

"Goods, literature, products, or other materials that promote revisionist theories proscribed by applicable law"

WTF?  Is this a nod to the Chinese government or something? ???

Actually it isn't, must be in the TOS or something, I'm sure I read it though.
