It is really luck of the draw on how long your hardware will last. Of course, running in the proper environment, keeping it clean, etc will prolong its life somewhat but you really are at the mercy of the bitmain chips.

As the dies shrink on the ASICs the problems increase. You cannot compare any miner made in the last 2 years with anything older, its like apples to oranges.
