Every human nor male or female has same rights to be born in this world.
Female foeticide is one such grave social problem arising out of the so-called “traditional thoughts” of our society. Illegal abortion of the female foetus is done due to family pressure from in-laws, husband or the woman’s parents, and the reasons for this are preference of son, girls being considered as a burden, poverty, illiteracy, social discrimination against women etc.
According to 2011 census, the child sex ratio in India was 919 females to 1000 males, which declined from 927 females to 1000 males in the previous decade. Haryana, which is supposed to be one of the richest states in India, takes the top most position in skewed sex ratio. Other prominent states are Punjab, Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh etc. Skewed sex ratios are seen in almost all the states of India, except in North East India and some of South India. Since 1991, more than 80% of districts in India have shown a reducing sex ratio. Going by this, the next census by 2022 will definitely show a further reduction in sex ratios all over the country. It is horrifying to state that illegal foetal sex determination and sex selective abortion have developed into a Rs. 1000 crore industry in India.
Ironically, female foeticide takes place in a country where people worship various forms of Goddesses, and where females are considered as Maa Laxmi’s incarnation and where young girls are worshipped and people touch their feet for blessings. But even then, the intentional killing of the girl child continues. Such is the double standards of our society. Right to education, health and empowerment are the fundamental rights of every Indian woman. The horrible illegal practice of female foeticide has to be stopped by harsh laws and change in the mind-set of the people. Save the girl child for a better tomorrow.

This can't be easily solved since this problem is partly cultural. Girls aren't just valued as much as boys, hence creating gender gaps in countries like China and India.

For India, economics also play a part because of the dowry system. I suppose if civil weddings will become more fashionable, maybe that would somehow reduce it. Wedding are expensive enough even without dowries.

As for China, boys are valued for continuing the family name and the One Child Policy was definitely not helpful to girls. Hopefully with the relaxation of said policy, there would be less abortions and abandonment.

it's not gonna change until whole societies work their way out of the stone age.

you can throw all the laws you want at it, it won't stop a bunch of backward assholes killing their children.

While people do not understand the importance of human life and the sin of abortions only because they are unhappy with the sex of the child, it is foolish for them to explain that all children have the right to birth.

Female foeticide have been in practice for centuries especially for the families who prefer only male child. Various religious, social, financial and emotional reasons are also there. Time has been changed now to a great extent however, various reasons and beliefs are continuing in some families.

By prosecuting everyone who kills other people, especially those who can't fight back, like fetuses.

First of all, its abortion, you calling it a word with a bad connotation to persuade people is subversive
Second of all "fair" is not a concept found it nature, and just exist in your imagination

Thats a fallacy, you writing on a computer connected to the internet sitting in a isolated heated house is a challenge to nature
In fact 99% of things you do are. Its not an argument, try again

I am very sad to read this thread, why a mother want to have an abortion? where their Conscience :(
I think men and women have the same right to life. Innocent babies should be killed since they live in the womb, this is very discriminatory

Men and women are the same. Human life should be valued and the difference between gender shouldnt hinder their right to live but its unfortunate how some countries do not value each of their citizens. We cant solve this issue because its part of their culture to disregard girls and highly value boys. Nothing could be changed and i guess we should just move on because we have no power ro alter this kind of matter.

Everyone, every man or woman, has the same right to be born in this world.

Men and women are the same. Human life should be taken seriously, and gender differences should not interfere with their right to exist, but unfortunately some countries do not value every citizen.

This is the first time when I have heard about female foeticide. In my culture, there is no bloody horrible custom like that. If this is still really happening, somethings must be changed as soon as possible. You have mentioned above that This custom has been continuing for centuries. This is dreadful for sure.
