What was the biggest technical hurdle you ran into? Some parts of software are useless so removed. Integration was with bitcoind(somewhat) but it required bitcoind should be run continuously. So I finished it there because running on java is not a good idea. I am looking for some php alternative. Bitcoinj is written in Java so the integration might be easier. Bits of Proof - which is more server oriented - is also in Java I believe. That is open source. There are various closed source server side solutions written using Java (blockchain.info, BitcoinSpinner) so it is definitely doable.
