Title: What is your favorite online wallet?
Post by: Mataman on May 29, 2013, 04:34:08 AM
Hello, Bitcoin Talk!

I'm quite new to Bitcoin and for now I'm using an online wallet until I can get a desktop wallet. If I google search this plenty of websites and blogs will come up saying which service is the best, but I want to hear you all's opinion on your favorite online wallet, according to handling your Bitcoin balance, transaction fees, etc.

If there is already a post about this, which I'm sure there is, I'd love a link :)!

Thank you!

I think Coinbase and Blockchain are the most popular.

Haha, I didn't know block chain was a wallet, I thought it was just used to check balance. Thanks a lot! I probably go with Blockchain, I've been using Mt.Gox for a little bit and I just wanted to see my alternatives.

Blockchain.info is probably the best non-exchange online wallet going around.

https://blockchain.info/wallet is the ONLY online wallet I'm aware of that I would trust.

Make sure that you get a backup of your wallet from them.

Well i think it connects to an electrum server where the blockchain is stored so you dont have to store the chain locally
in your computer.

Thats why it syncs so fast.

online wallets = bad. Keep your wallet on a machine you control, and keep it safe by putting on usb drive when not in use. No sense getting your money stolen.

Blockchain.info by far, but you're always better off using a wallet that only you have the private key to.

I like coinbase for getting bitcoin, and now for paying for the humble bundle games.
I like bitmits wallet for buying stuff on their site.
You should never keep a large balance in any online wallet though for several reason, not just for safety but also that you are giving these online wallets some power to manipulate bitcoin prices.

Blockchain all the way, but I strongly recommend some type of backup. Best option is some usb flash disk or some other media storage device. Also I read on several places that people store theirs backup wallets on computers that are not connected to internet.

I use coinbase, and I cut down on my research due to the android app called Bitcoin Buzz Feeds

It has an integrated direction to coinbase wallet service in the app. Hope that helps you!

blockchain.info

Please don't forget to enable a secondary password, two factor authentication, and change your security settings so you get a wallet.dat backup regularly.

Don't lose the URL for your wallet and backup your backup in an encrypted partition somewhere.

Then make PAPER BACKUPS of your Blockchain.info wallet and put those in the encrypted container too.

Make a few copies of this container and store them safely (not all at the same location).

And enjoy!

Maybe I´m suffering from trust issues, but I wouldn´t use any online wallet for an amount worth crying over.

How exactly do you do that? Just backup the wallet to the USB drive? Doesn't that still leave it on your desktop?

Only using blockchain. It's the safest out there, just google on attacks on wallets and you will see that blockchain seems the most safe place to store your coins.
