Title: 1070ti - Real? Thoughts? -- ON PREORDER NOW FOR NOV 2nd!
Post by: CjMapope on September 19, 2017, 06:28:32 AM
So im sure some/alot of you have read the last few days rumors of Nvidia in the works on a "1070ti"
As you can imagine it's Pascal based. It's said to sport around 2,048 CUDA cores and G5 mem.
It all started with a pic circulating (below)

Real, or Rumor?  Expected price/performance/release date/effect on prices of other GPUs? Will you trade in all your 1070's for them? :D

I'm not sure what the point would be.

An 1070 has 1920 cores so 2048 cores is not much of an upgrade. The 1080/1080Ti has 2560/3584 cores for comparison.

The only point I can see is if its built with 14nm technology like the 1030/1050/1050Ti while the rest of the 1000-series cards are based on 16nm fabrication. I'm not sure that slight efficiency upgrade would worth it to push a new card but who knows.

i think they are making them strickly to destroy any small chance Vega 56 had a beating the 1070/1080 ;p
They have been confirmed now by Gigabyte (inna terrible "IT" reference"), to be dropping around Halloween :)
I may grab one for the hell of it, it will be a Miners card for sure with G5 mem, and guaranteed it could NEVER be as bad of flop as vega atleast ;p

But I read some articles mentioned 1070ti should come with 2432 cuda cores, instead of 2048. It is just 128 cuda less than gtx 1080.

The rumored vega refresh of polaris might be equally, if not more interesting

1070Ti will be the most efficient card for mining Ethash algo. It won't be available for long after release, so catch some if you can.

My guess is that the hashrate will be around 36-38

If it has GDDR5X memory, it will be less than a 1080 on Ethash, so ~20-22 MH/s.

It's all rumors at this point. Others sites are claiming it has GDDR5X, specically to deter miners from buying them all, which would make sense since it's a limited run card.

It will be apparently built with 16nm fabrication technology so it's kind of a boring, slightly juiced up 1070 (or slightly gimped 1080 in case of GDDR5X) with nothing new.

And its power consumption will be apparently 180 watts, same as most factory overclocked 1070s.

Therefore I think it will only do 32-34 Mh/s doing Eth but being a new card will probably mean it will be overpriced for miners.

Not worth it for more than $400 for ETH. You can already get 30-31 MH/s on ETH + 50% better dual mining performance with a RX 580. Around that price it would be good for Equihash. Otherwise a 1080 gets ~570 H/s for $500.

I don't think many people would buy this for Eth anyway considering its state and direction. And for other algos it will be probably bad in terms of price/performance with its initial cost but who knows.

If that is the case, then it is better than 1080 for many mining.

14nm is just a different fab (Samsung). It doesn't necessarily have any better density. The name of a node is mostly marketing fluff at this point

Not density but better power efficiency.

It would be really weird to release it now, i mean isn't the next generation coming soon? why noy just buy the 2070 instead
If its going to be mining specific then that would make at least some sense, keep the miners on the old gen and have the gamers go to the new gen

The current NVidia roadmap as I recall is saying "1H 2018" for their 10xx refresh (might be 20xx but I'd bet more likely 11xx series nomenclature).

They WERE talking about a possibility of pushing it up to 4Q 2017 at one point (to compete with Vega if needed) - now they know they don't need to refresh to be able to BEAT Vega, they appear to be sticking with the original plan (which gives them time to do more optimizations for a bigger jump).

Newest rumor drops today, looks like it's about confirmed at this point tho :)

- We ARE getting a 1070ti
- it will have about 2400 CUDA cores
- it will have the GOOD mining mem from the 1070
- it will fill a gap price point between 1070 and 1080
- 26th of October?
- TDP? (i cant see more than 180)

I'll BET it has 2304 CUDA cores or if it gets priced at $449 or $459 MSRP - otherwise it's gonna eat too many 1080 sales.
If it IS in fact priced around $400 (which is the SAME or nearly so as the 1070) it'll have to drop the core count down to 2048 to avoid eating 1070 sales.

Card is about 2 months too late to be a good ETH mining card - RX series AMD have dropped back down too far on price - but it might be a very good ZEC miner for the price.

Given the pricing LAST MONTH on available "in stock" cards was almost always over $300 and often the LOWEST price card was near $350, having several cards available for under $300 is a definite improvement on pricing.

You also left out the RX 470 and RX 480 from your list, which would have added a few MORE choices in the under $300 range, including the Sapphire "mining" RX 470 I bought yesterday at $259.

Note that I said "dropped back down" not "dropped back to pre-shortage" on pricing.

To compete with those $259 cards, a hypothetical $399 GTX 1070ti would have to manage at least mid-30s Mhash/sec on ETH even if the $259 AMD cards are NOT BIOS modded.
Note that the 1080ti only manages mid-30s on ETH hashrate.
To compete with those $259 AMD cards with their BIOS modded, a hypothetical GTC 1070ti would have to exceed 40 Mhash/sec by quite a bit on a $400 card and be close to 50 for a $449 card to compete.

For algorithms other than that used by ETH, a hypothetical GTX 1070ti is likely to be a lot more competative - I can see it being a KILLER ZEC mining card for the price, even at $449.

if $399 price stands, will be the best gpu card your money can buy to mine anything. Where I live you can't find polaris for less than $320, so nobody is buying them. The best idea right now is wait for volta but that is in few months yet.

price for 1070ti will be over 400$

Waiting for voltra is a horrible idea,  Your missing out on mining lots of coins while your waiting for voltra release,  Too far into the future, most likely delays and gpu shortages,

More than likely coins will pump up hard after the bitcoin cools down. Look at Zen coin,  monero, decred, etc  all of the legit coins are up in value by 3x+ from their lows.  If your always waiting for the next best hardware you'll be mining the coins with the latest hardware but they will be 10x more expensive and difficult to mine.  Good luck waiting around on the sidelines.  Time is money and that's way more important than waiting for the latest hardware.

Last time I checked, Volta was estimated to be a half year or so off - and it is NOT likely to provide a huge jump in performance, since it will still be getting build on the same manufacturing node.
I expect 10-30% jump on each model over the corresponding 10xx series model, probably at the same wattage.

Significant, but NOT going to make current cards unprofitable.

Not to mention that Volta won't have good supplies until 2019. There's a plenty of time to buy the current gen and still make ROI

Nah, they'll have plenty of supply a month or two after release on each model, possibly even on the release day.

gtx 1070 ti is just a gtx 1080 with few things disabled and different memory and yes there are plenty of gtx 1080 chips in stock. This is just a stock clearance for volta. All gtx 1080 with bad wields must go hehe.

Last page or so of posts have quite a few of performance posts, including my fairly extensive ZEC via EWBF testing.

It appears a few folks recieved their cards on Nov 2 (not sure if they got them shipped or walked into stores) - mine was shipped from Newegg and arrived Nov 3.
