You can deposit your bitcoin to some exchange (bittrex maybe) and buy ethereum with that bitcoin. If you don't want to sign up for exchange then you can you shapeshift to turn your bitcoin into ethereum, you only need to send the money to the provided address and input your eth adress.

money into alt coin or it could also directly in the exchange proceed from

Depends on your geography; you can look for an exchange in your locality. If you already have a source of Bitcoin, you can transfer to Poloneix or Bittrex or any other exchange and exchange Bitcoin for Ethereum. You can also buy Ethereum at spot at coinbase.com/cex.io if you in live in US, that will allow you to purchase through a bank transfer of funds or credit card. Hope it all goes well!

By using exchange. Avoid Shapeshift (high fees overall) and Bittrex (high fees when withdrawing). I recommend using Poloniex. Used them long time for all my trading and never had any problem with them.

There are so many ways to achieve this and the choice depends on you, most especially when considering the fees. You can make use of exchange/trading platforms such as bittrex or poloniex. There are also some wallets like exodus (desktop wallet) or online wallet (blockchain.info) with inbuilt exchange using shapeshift to convert into ETH. These are the easiest ways that comes to mind that you can make use of.

The easiest way is to use shapeshift.io They don't require registration and the exchange takes less than 10 minutes.

Yes, shapeshift is simple but the fee is a bit expensive. Usually they take 0.00075 BTC as miner fee when we exchange altcoin to btc, it's around 3$. Better use an exchanger that just require fee when make a withdrawal.

In an exchange like Bittrex, but they demand verification and have limits and other boring stuff.

There are decentralized exchanges, shapeshift.io and coins that have decentralized exchanges, like waves.

Good point but if you need to exchange more than 1 BTC and the exchange requires verification it is much easier to stick to shapeshift.

You can check prices on Coinmarketcap and chose an exchange with cheapest Ether price. But I suggest that you don't choose exchange with low volume. Go to https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum/#BTC
and click on Pairs and scroll down to ETH/BTC and you will see ETH price on different exchanges. At the moment, Livecoin has the best price, 0.07191700 BTC
Differences are small, so you can simply choose your favorite exchange.

I think you are a newborn baby to this forum so it might be very confusing for you, simply choose the one of the best exchange in the planet where you want to convert your BTC to ETH and transfer your coins to that concerned wallet and start to exchange them in the market.

Simply do a trade on a reputable exchange, easy peezy.

I suggest you to look for a major exchange like bittrex ,poloniex. They provide exchange, and people also using it for trade. But you need to be caution to choose your exchange, because every exchange might have a different way for user verification and rules. And some of them are having a transaction limit for unverified users. So Make sure you could verify your account before decide to invest on the exchange.

I suggest you to use sites like shapeshift or then changelly!
It is very easy, fast and you do not need to register!

The easiest way to covert your bitcoin to ethereum is through https://blockchain.info as they just introduced ethereum to they wallet. Another way I think you can covert your bitcoin to ethereum is through trading exchange platforms like bittrex, c-cex and poloniex. These are the two ways you can easily convert from ethereum to bitcoin and vise versa.

You can just actually log in to some exchange site and deposit your BTC there and convert your BTC to Ethereum by buying Ethereum. That's the easiest for me and best way to turn your bitcoin to ethereum.
